31. So now the UK considered illegal Jewish immigration...
William ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
as "terrorism"?? Notice, the UK had no concerns about massive illegal Arab immigration into the region since 1930 - which the UK documented in the 1932 census and in documents noting it as a "scourge" they could not stymie. And the British also fail to acknowledge that by blocking Jewish immigration they were both violating Intl law and Britain's own obligation under the Mandate.
32. great Britannia is no more
Pete ,   westcoast, usa   (04.26.13)
and England has huge social problems caused by those who hate Israel. If GB would had known what their country would look like in 80 years. Wonder how things would be now?
33. #19 Chris : Completely agreed!
Maurice ,   Montreal   (04.26.13)

Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (04.26.13)
Israel is Palestine. How many Jews live in Gaza? Do we accuse the Gazans of Apartheid? I could care less how many or how few Arabs attend any university in Israel. They want to be independant, let them build their own universities and be independant. Perhaps they don't live in Ariel because the citizens there don't want to end up like the Fogal family. I don't blame them one bit.
35. #21 Because their leaders told them to?
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (04.26.13)
Their leaders told them to leave and get out of the way so they could kill all the Jews and then they could come back and take all the property of the Jews. Being the losers they are it didn't work out. War has consequences and they learned the hard way that when you start a war you may end up with less than you had in the beginning. They took the risk and now they are crying like babies because they have to pay the price.
36. Jews fled Nazis, for same reason Arabs fled Jews, fear
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (04.26.13)
37. #7 - they were but rejected the terms
William ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
under any return Arabs would have to be loyal citizens and end aggression against the Jewish State. They refused and the offer was tabled. Many were not owners of their land nor long-term residents but rather economic migrants. That is the cause of most of those who ran - not having a tie to the land in the first place. The true destination of them should be their birth countries which they do hold citizenship in. And of course, any such return to Israel is not open to anyone besides original persons who fled.
38. #16 - you also won't find credible evidence to that fact
William ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
The Arab Higher Committee also admits their use of terrorism and lies of atrocities which ultimately caused the massive emigration of Arabs from the area. Now if the Arabs themselves can admit to their mistakes, why can't you?
39. Most talkbacks miss the point.
Raoul ,   Herzliya. Israel.   (04.26.13)
Fled or were forced to flee is today hardly relevant. There needs to be Mandela-like reconciliation and that is clearly not happening. The only mention of the possibility of reconciliation is between Fatah and Hamas. How can there be reconciliation between Jews and Arabs when Jew-hatred is still taught in Palestinian schools?
40. no 27
(04.26.13)
Life must carry on. Lost everything and been kicked out with few thousands dollars which I managed to take with me. Worked very hard and started fresh. Thank G D I live like a lord. I did not cry and cry and to beg the world for help. Surely the Arabs can do the same what I managed to do, but they would prefer to stay and live in overcrowded and shitty place for political reason against Israel. The world should stop financing these so called refugees, and let them to build their own life.
41. Elsie no 27
JUDAH THE LION ,   LION OF JUDAH   (04.26.13)
Clearly it was not you personally who made me flee my country, but on your behalf that I have been kicked and robed. No Arab country have treated their Jewish national fairly. We been treated worst than animal.
42. 1948 British report: Arabs will lose war ,right of reply to
Elsie. ,   Gush Halav.   (04.26.13)
#29, Ah William, you make it sound so simple ,but it is not so, you want to make out that all the Arabs were hostile and aggressive, in this way everything is excused, right?? wrong,William, the people of Birem were never disloyal or aggressive, never threaten to thow the Jews into the sea, I can go on and on, but I know it will be a waste of time. You say that the Arabs are hostile towards the Jewish people, so let me turn the question back to you, are you hostile towards Arabs??. Go and do some reseach about Birem, than come back to me with the correct data.who knows perhaps and just perhaps you will be less arrogant.
43. Correction; ALL THE WARS
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (04.26.13)
44. #16- Jewish Terrorism
Joe S. ,   Ontario, Canada   (04.26.13)
In the nuance of international law "terrorism" is a moral rather than a legal categorization. Otherwise Churchill would be a war criminal for the fire bombing of Dresden (feb/45). One persons "war criminal" is someone elses "hero". Irgun , Palmach etc. targeted enemy military assets. Nothing has changed today. The IDF strives to surgically hit those who have and/or intend to hit Israeli civilians. Carpet bombing Gaza would not hurt Churchills feelings if he was alive today.
45. Churchill Sneezed and we got screwed
Raviv ,   Paris   (04.26.13)
Create a state for the Arabs in the fictitious Jordan and let anyone who wants to leave leave and anyone who stays to have his political rights transferred to the new state. Redraw most of the Middle East's current boundries to allow for Kurdish Assyrian and Aramaic-speaking ( all non-Arab) ethnicities independence & Self-determination. These borders were drawn randomly as the "Churchil Sneeze" proves it.
46. Good prediction
Good prediction   (04.26.13)
Good prediction that the conflict will settled in this generation because only God can settle it without any human triumph. The angel in the Revelation 10 is here already clothes in atmosphere label, the third angel that follows the two is here already, and the angel that sat on the cloud is here already believe it or not that is the purpose of God so that no human will triumph.
47. #6 it doesn't matter
Vlad   (04.26.13)
Even if they were all booted out, they still don't have the right of return. As one of the writers of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights explained the phrase "everyone has the right to leave and return to his country", that clause was intended for individuals, never to address mass population transfers.
48. #24 Silly willy on Ducks.
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (04.26.13)
Hi Silly Willy; I see you’re still spewing misinformation. From my balcony I see both the trees and the forest, and I can even see the well fertilized but otherwise barren field of space between your ears. 1. Several hundred ISRAELI-Arab students attend Ariel University; Palestinian-Arabs are NOT admitted as matriculating students - contact the University for yourself or look it up on Wikipedia. 2. Area C covers more than 60% of the West Bank. Look at a close-up on a map. You’ll find that it is a nightmarish weave designed to encircle and isolate individual Palestinian communities and Palestine as a whole. 3. Palestinian-Arabs generally are not allowed to build on privately owned land in Area C; the P.A. cannot begin building a national infrastructure and Palestinian communities cannot expand naturally. Travelling between communities is a daily nightmare. Paraphrasing Rafael Eitan, “We’ve got the Palestinians bottled up like cockroaches.” In passing, there are strong similarities in the way you and your cohort disparagingly refer to Palestinian-Arabs and the way that South African white-supremacist used to refer to their native population. And, for the record, Silly Willy, In U.S. terms, I’m a Republican-Libertarian. I only agree with leftists when they’re right.
49. #48
Benji ,   US   (04.27.13)
#1 Wikipedia reports 600 Arab-Israelis attended Ariel University in 2011. How many Palestinian Arabs applied to Ariel University in 2011? If none applied then they would not be matriclated. Post your link. 2. Yes the security fense weaves through the West Bank to protect Israelis from their terror loving Palestinian neighbors. 3. Palestinians have choices. They can expand in Area A and B and if they don't like it, they can complain to their leadership. Palestinians have created their own problems by embracing terror. No comparison between Israel and South Africa.
50. 24
(04.27.13)
actually. ariel university is 20% arab students. look at their web site. the all live in the west bank.
51. #6 Spurious Sarah Spits
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (04.27.13)
Sarah, please look up the definitions of "flee", "refuge" and then the definition of "voluntary." According to your logic, the Syrian government can refuse to allow the million or so Syriams refugees to return home when the civil war ends because they "voluntarily" left Syria. In passing, Arab-Israeli's are often treated as second-class citizens and subject to wide spread discrimination in Israel today precisely because we do not demand of them the same as we do of other (non-Haridi) Israeli's. And we do not demand it of them for one reason..... Tell us truthfully Sarah, do you want to provide military training to Israeli-Arabs? Or are you afraid to treat them as "real" Israelis? I agree with your remarks about the calumny of the Mandatory British -as their PM remarked not long ago, they bear a lot or responsiblity for today's mess in Israel and the Middle East.
52. #51 Your knowledge is lacking
Benji ,   US   (04.27.13)
The Arabs did flee in 1948 when Arab armies and militias attacked Israel. That in spite of Israel telling them they could remain and live safely in Israel which some 160,000 Arabs decided to do. Most likely the Syrian government will refuse to allow refugees to return and given the Assad's genocide and murder of his own people, there will be nothing left to return to. Arab Israelis do serve in the military and receive military training. Their involvement in the military is voluntary. Not all take up the responsibility yet they expect Israel to protect them.
53. Reply 52: Really? Then please educate me
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (04.27.13)
Benji, The question is not whether Palestinan-Arabs fled but whether Israel has any obligations to them. Sarah says no. I disagree. Arabs who left Israel during the war are legally refugees; they did not leave with the intent of abandoning their homes and starting new lives; they fled from fear, justified or not, to where they hoped to sit out the conflict and then return home-- just as a million Syrians are now doing. Under international law Syrians refugees have a legal right of return and/or to compensation. Arab refugees from Israel have similar rights, no less than do the Jews who fled Arab countries following Israel’s independence. You disagree? Sarah states elsewhere that Palestinians are “squatters” who should be deported “home” to Jordan. This, coupled with her frequent derogatory remarks about Arabs, makes me wonder about her opinion of non-Jewish Arab-Israelis who –she claims—enjoy all the benefits of our society without the responsibility. I disagree. I did not claim that individual Arab-Israeli's do not serve in the IDF–so too do some Haridi. I stated only that Israel does not require their service as is now being required of the Haridi. National service is an important element of Israeli identity. Prior to the election Lapid supported universal national service. That has been quietly dropped. Why? My belief is that too many of us share Sarah’s racist attitude towards Arabs in general which affects our view such that we really don’t want to integrate non-Jewish Israeli-Arabs into Israel mainstream society –which leaves them de facto second-class citizens. This, of course, is a matter of opinion but it is not without basis in fact and logic. You disagree? So where does my response to SarahB or here reveal my ignorance? I welcome any opportunity to learn.
54. re: #39 Perfectly true!
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (04.27.13)
but remember that when you point a finger at someone else, your remaining three fingers point back at you! Officially we teach "mutual respect, understanding and tolerance." But, in reality, to live in Israel is to eat, drink and breath a general disrespect, distrust and contempt for Arabs. Just ask all of your close Arab-Israeli friends.
55. #53 Who created the refugee problem?
Benji ,   US   (04.27.13)
In 1948 Israel was attacked by Arab armies and militias expecting to drive the Jews away and take their land and possessions. They told the Arabs to leave so they could vanquish Israel. Arabs were promised safety in Israel but left on their own. The ones who remained are proof of Israel's committement to their safety. This refugee problem was created by the Arab countries that attacked Israel in '48. Israel has no responsibility for the bad decisions these arabs and their leaders made. Not all refugee problems are the same. Syrian refugees are being subjected to genocide by their government. Jews left Arab lands because they were persecuted for being Jewish. If Arabs want to take a more active role in Israel's military, why don't they all step forward and enlist? When they're given leadership roles many of them join boycotts against Israel and show solidarity with Israel's enemies. They're given an opportunity which in many cases they decline or abuse. That doesn't make them second class citizens.

#55, Beni, you write alot from your comfortable chair, loads of pious words, but in real life you have no idea what so ever,.easy to write from USA, at the very least you could study some history before you spout off.

59. Reply to #49 Ominous Parallels
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (04.28.13)
1. WIkipedia notes "admissions are open to all ISRAELIS. Email Ariel directly and the answer you will receive is "Ariel University is open to all Israel citizens regardless of ethnicity or religion…. However, we do not admit non-Israelis from the West Bank at this time." 2. I did not refer to the security fence –that’s a different issue. I am referring to the problems caused by the division of Areas A and B into 227 "islands," each one of which is surrounded by Area C under full Israeli control. 3. West Bank Palestinians do not have the choices you claim they do. Some 200 of their “islands” are less than one square mile in size making natural expansion impossible. Travel and commerce between “islands” is stifled because of their separation by Area C. This situation was supposed to last for no more than five years. It is now twenty years. The effect (some would say the intention) is the slow strangulation of hundreds of communities and increasing concentration of Palestinians in the few relatively larger "islands”. 4. I too abhor terrorism. You give no credit to the P.A. for its condemnation and active struggle against terrorist elements in cooperation with Israel. Fortunately (unfortunately for some) Palestinians are becoming more sophisticated as their successful bid to elevate their status at the UN demonstrates. 5. Unlike you, I believe there are ominous parallels between Israel and former South Africa , primarily stemming from the settlements and related policies. A similar view is shared by all of Israel's former heads of security. Perhaps the illegal settlements are also at the root of your and my differences?
60. #59 Only if you manipulate information
Benji ,   US   (04.28.13)
1. Israel has no obligation to provide a college education to the Palestinians. They have their own colleges and universities. 2. Not ideal for both sides. You think Israelis traveling on the roads like to be stoned or shot at by their Palestinian neighbors? 3. Do you see the Palestinian leadership stepping forward to resolve the conflict and improve conditions for the Palestinians? I sure don't. 4. Arafat was the father of terror and Abbas was his right hand man. They condemn terror in a robotic fashion, but terror attacks have never stopped. I don't have to give them credit. They just need to do their job. After all, they get paid by tax money from Israel. 5. First of all, the settlements are not illegal. There are disputed territories and the Palestinians are not interested in a permanent settlement or resolution to the conflict. The PA Charter still calls for the destruction of Israel and Hamas with funding and support from Iran along with splinter terror groups continues to launch terror attacks against Israel. The Palestinians are not innocent bystanders. They play an active role in perpetuating this conflict. There is no parallel with former South Africa.
