61. Reply#60 Not disputed, illegal.

The money Israel gives to the PA belongs to the PA ans is merely collected by Israel. Israel is the only country in the world that "disputes" the illegality of civilian settlements in the territories --despite their condemnation by the US, EU, GA, SC, ICRC, High Cotracting Parties of the Geneva Convention and ICJ. I fear that even prosecution by the ICC may not get the message across... In any case, it seems clear that we have little common ground. I wish you could prove me wrong. The views you hold are much more of a risk to Israel's survival as a Jewish nation than the Palestinians will even be. Best of luck to you.
62. #61 You're grasping at straws
Benji ,   US   (04.29.13)
1. The money Israel gives the PA is Israel's money. It's related to tax money collected for work performed by Palestinians in Israel. 2. All these groups you mention have no jurisdiction over issues related to settlements. Israel has every right to build. UN Resolution 242 deems the territories disputed, not illegal. Come back when you've done your homework.
63. #62 You’re building settlements of straw
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (04.29.13)
The nations and organizations who establish and apply international law unanimously hold that the settlements are illegal. Charade over. UNSCR242 does not mention “disputed territories” and the nations who voted for it reject Rostow ’s interpretation. Nevertheless, assume you’re right and answer this: “Who in their right mind builds a home on disputed land that it knows might –and the rest of the world says does—belong to someone else?” I’ve yet to receive an intelligible answer to this question. Anyway, since the settlements depend on Israeli government support, they really are built on straw. Read the government’s successful defense to Gaza settlers’ lawsuits in which the GOI argues that the settlers knew that they were living on disputed land and therefore had no right to expect their homes and businesses to be permanent or to make court claims based on such an expectation. Government leaders puff and posture but, as Bibi’s apology to Turkey demonstrates, when push comes to shove, they bend over. The West is pushing, the U.S. is preparing to shove and all that will be left is scattered straw and broken dreams. Do YOUR homework little one.
64. #63 Yes, you can assume I'm right
Benji ,   US   (04.30.13)
And I can assume you did not do your homework. If you think Israel should make decisions based on what "the rest of the world says" then you are even more uninformed than I thought. It's been disputed land for a long time and may continue to be for several hundred years. Hamas and Fatah can't even reach agreement so don't expect anything soon. Israel participates in diplomatic efforts but in the end, the Israelis will do what's best for Israel.
65. #65 I can assume that you are uneducated
On the Balcony ,   Akko   (04.30.13)
arrogant and either very young and silly or dangerously stupid. No matter, the clock is ticking louder than ever before for a peace settlement. Perhaps that 's why you appear to be deaf and dumb to reality.
66. reply #64: What's best for Israel is
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (05.02.13)
to conform to international law and begin telling its people the truth about the settlements. They are illegal. Or do you prefer to wait until Israel is humiliated by an ICC decision convicting and sanctioning our leaders for international war crimes?
