(05.05.13)
3. No problem, people - boycott the Cinema City
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (05.05.13)
Don't give it any business at all, then it will open on Saturdays. Money and profit are more powerful than religion. Besides, Shabbat finishes at an hour that makes it possible for venue to be open.
4. @1
Ralph ,   Caesarea   (05.05.13)
If you want a religious society move to Teheran. End of discussion!!!
5. The New Face Of Anti-Semitism
Ariel ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (05.05.13)
B"H - There is no such thing as "right for Saturday movies". There are Jewish rights though and one of the first of them the right for Shabat. Shabat has to be respected on the Land of Israel! If you want to live like a goy, leave, leave this holy Land to the Jews.
6. Shabat
Edouard ,   Montreal Canada   (05.05.13)
It is a serious prejudice to Israeli citizens notto alow them to do what ever they want in Jerusalem This city belong to all Jews what ever they are religiouse or not Nobody force this orthodox to go to movies on shabat .... Maybe we should force them to work on shabat so they can feel what is it to be force into something they don't want Enough already to accept they dictature
7. Allow Shabbos Tickets and Shabbos clocks
Zechariah   (05.05.13)
People ought be allowed pre ticket sales and shabbos clock movies on Jewish history and medicine but in Tel aviv and Haiifa.on shabbos the centre in Jerusalem oughtbe converted to shules and shiurim and the Resturants glatt kosher prepaid and for the poor brought by Shabbos Transport ambulances .secular can entertain at home but tv ought be heavily censored for Modesty and Decorum. If sin is desired hop over to France Holland and Denmark.
8. But we can still watch TV and movies at home, right?
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.05.13)
We haven't lost that right yet? Businesses often do not cater to the specific wants and desires that I or other people have. I've never seen Haredim protesting that an office supply store doesn't carry feather quills. Let capitalism drive the businesses to deside, and complain. As private citizens we are still free.
9. If you want to win simply don't go there.Never.Not on Monday
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.05.13)
or any other, religiously "approved" day of the week. They'll go bust. End of story. But it will never happen, right?
10. #1
mark ,   ca   (05.05.13)
You,gaon from vilna, show me one Holy book where it's written that people can't enjoy movies on Shabbat?
11. Why do Jews want to flaunt their contempt for Sabbath?
Steve   (05.05.13)
When it comes to keeping Sabbath, I am not one to emulate. That having been said, I am not going to flaunt Sabbath violations openly if I can help it. If you want to watch movies on the Sabbath, why don't you watch movies in the privacy of your own home? Why make a public display of your lack of respect for the Sabbath?
12. Movies on Shabbat
Carol ,   Florida   (05.05.13)
If you don't want movies on Shabbat, stay home! But don't make rules for people who don't share your views.
13. @ 1 - You don't have to go, but don't tell us what to do
Joe ,   Israel   (05.05.13)
We don't tell you not to cut off babies genitals, so you better not tell us that we can't go to a movie on our day off.
14. Stand up to religious coercion
Haim ,   TA   (05.05.13)
First they start with Jerusalem next they will start with Tel Aviv, say no to religious coercion, they once again impose their fanatical religious life style on secular residents.
15. going to a movie on shabbat shouldn't disturb the haredim
Scott ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (05.05.13)
Working people only have Shabbat to enjoy themselves. It's not fair they should be prisoners in their homes with no entertainment open on their day off. If they have to drive (assuming they have a car) to some distant neighborhood to go to the cinema, they will probably be driving by a haredi neighborhood, disturbing them. Maybe there can be a compromise in that the parking lot will be closed on Shabbat, but the cinema will & stores that wish to be open will remain open. This way people can walk or bike ride to the mall & not disturb Shabbat for the haredim.
16. Reza, try again
(05.05.13)
If you'd read the Torah you'd discover that it doesn't mention such a place as Jerusalem so talking about being holy is completely irrelevant. Jerusalem as a holy city has been created later by Jews. Shomronim don't even recognize it as holy, so please, get your human created nonsense somewhere else and let people live their lives
17. A bone thrown to Haredim to bite? A terrible mistake.
Michael ,   California, USA   (05.05.13)
Where is the Knesset and its Centrist coalition? Not opening the movie house on erev Shabat is capitulation to neo-fascist forces. It must not happen.
18. 1. Reza: Amain, amain. The protesters are foolish.
Rivkah   (05.05.13)
Why aren't they devoting their time to Yahweh-Yehoshua and the Ruach HaKodesh from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday? They should be reading the Holy Scriptures and singing hymns and praise the the Creator of the Universe. If they want to be like the world and depart from the REQUIREMENT to observe the seventh day Sabbath of the Lord, let them leave God's land and go back to Russia and all the other nations their ancestors came from in the dispersion. They are not worthy of the name Israeli or Jews who are Jews in their hearts.
19. #1 Jerusalem / Kabul... same sh*t, appearently
Intedi Nensak ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (05.05.13)
Fine. No movies on shabbat. Also, no more welfare to you good for nothing religious bastards that has never done an honest days work in your entire life. I think that's a fair trade, with the money they're saving they should be able to get a kickass home theatre system that they can use on saturdays.
20. Ralph in Caesarea
Ralph ,   Rishon le Zion   (05.05.13)
Ralph in Rishon completely agrees with Ralph in Caesarea.
21. As a hardworking " secular " Jew I tell : Do not touch
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (05.05.13)
Shabbat and Jewish values. There are more than 150 countries for you to go to the cinema on Shabbat. This is the Land of Israel.
22. to #1 and #5
jerushosh ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.05.13)
Sorry but who decided that your way to "be Jewish" is the only way??? I'm sure that people who are even "more religious that you" say that "you do it wrong"...get over yourselves! Jerusalem is a city of all people...secular and religious. You want people to respect your way of life? then respect everyone's way of life! It is a shame that people like you are destroying such a beautiful city. In this country, we still enjoy a freedom to practice our religion how we see fit...if we didnt have that, welcome to Saudi Arabia or Iran...go live there and see how that works for you.
23. These people reached a very low level !
laurence ,   Givatayim   (05.05.13)
First of all I just want to say that I am amazed to see how low is these people's level . They go demonstrate to have movies on shabbat !! Waow, they will never go down the streets for major problems, but for movies on saturdays, yes !! I just can't believe it !! Is this their only concern ? Nobody is preventing you to go to movies on saturday, but don't force your will on a private promoter . He is the owner and has the right to rule as he wants. You don't like it, don't go there. Secondly we are in a jewish country, as it is written in our basic law, so we have to preserve the jewish character of our country, which is to respect shabbat. There are other movies theater opened on shabbat, go there !!
24. to #5 Ariel ben Yochanan
Gershon Reed ,   Be'er Sheva, Israel   (05.05.13)
Dear Ariel, If all the seculars left the country as you suggest, where would the money come from for the monthly checks to the Haradim?
25. With all the Avodah Zara in Jerusalem, movies should be
avg joe ,   Israel   (05.05.13)
the last concern for the haredim. With all the rabbi worship that goes on in haredi society there are far greater chillul HaShem going on in Yerushalayim than movie watching. Which one do you think upsets G-d more: you making a mockery of Torah and halacha or the shabbat violators? Then again with the haredi mindset as long as you keep shabbat, kashrut and nidda you are free to commit any other sin that you like because those 3 alone will guarantee your place in gan eden. Most haredim do not know a thing about Torah nor halacha they only know their rabbinical programming. As long as the movie goers are not driving through your ghetto you should leave everyone else alone!
26. Equal share
Robert ,   Antwerp Belgium   (05.05.13)
I agree with most of Lapid's plans for equal share in the country's burden. What I don't agree is that people start to fight against anything that gives the country a Jewish character. If you look at almost all European countries, shops are not allowed to open on sundays in order to preserve the christian character of daily life even though the big majority of Europeans never go to church. It should be the same in Israƫl that chabat (from friday night till saturday evening) be closed for shops, swimming pools and so on.
27. Respect the will of the majority!
Vladimir ,   Yerushalayim   (05.05.13)
The vast majority of the people in Jerusalem are religious or traditional. They want that Shabbat is respected. Please you, the secular minority, don't impose your desires on us! If you don't like it, move to Paris, Las Vegas or Moscow where the cinemas are open on Shabbat!
28. What a Joke every night is Sat nite here
AnarchistHate ,   Jerusalem Israel   (05.05.13)
Anyone reading this article would think Jerusalem a dower city with not the hundreds and hundreds of bars and discos pubs etc and theatres that our one and only holy city that preserves the the holiest of Jewish Days the Sabbath one place where the feelings of the religious public who are a majority here are honored is beyond belief , this is all about wiping out any vestige of Jerusalem's sanctity to Jews and other faith make no mistake this is well orchestrated attempt to anarchize Jerusalem .anyone visiting Jerusalem would think every night is Saturday night here no one seems to work the cafes are filled 24/7 this story is a joke
29. 24 Gershon Reed: From US foreign aid,Christian evangelicals
Rivkah   (05.05.13)
World Jewry, patent and copyrights, natural resources, vegetables and fruit produce in the land, tourism where most of the money to support Israel comes from already.
30. Laurence, Israel is NO jewish country
(05.05.13)
where does it say that Israel is based on Jewish laws? Nowhere... Until proven otherwise Israel doesn't belong to religious
