Many thousands of innocent German women & children died in the allies bombing in World War 2. But it was the nazis who were responsible for the bombings. So every civilian death in Gaza was the result of the policies of Hamas .

According to Betselem Israel killed 1.5 non-combatants for every combatant, based on unverified reports from Arab propagandists. So in the worse case, IDF is better than US and UK forces which kill 2 non-combatants for every combatant, with other countries (France, Russia, Turkey) being far worse. No less important, Obama's CIA drones kill 10 civilians for every combatant. It is also significant that Hamas attacked Israeli civilian targets, while Obama, Cameron and Erdogan are aggressors, attacking far away foreign countries for economic interests. Betselem is anti Israeil foreign agent, generously funded, for example, by the British and Norwegian foreign offices. Their statements are no different than those made by Ahmadinejad, Assad and Bin Laden. The fact is that IDF did not act "contrary to the laws of war", but Obama's drone attacks are a war crime. I would like to add to #1 Steve A:s talkback that if the allied had fought the war according to the laws of war and refrained from bombing German cities, the Nazis would never have been decisively defeated. Then the Jewish members of B'tselem would never have been born and Israel would not have come into existence. weaponry... Had every rocket that landed in Israel caused a fatality or more, the casualty count on the Israeli side would've looked horrific. Then, this report would've never been published. Secondly, when rocket and mortar fire emanates from a 'civilian' population, the casualty count, however tragic, cannot be attributed to the side defending itself from that fire.

Halloooo, the world has moved on. Since then, there are 80.000 innocent Syrian dead, people in Irak, Lybie, Soedan, Egypt, Tunesia, Iran, Mali, Africa, etc.etc.etc. are being killed every day and these B'Tselem losers have nothing else to rapport than this????

How do they know the difference between non-combatants/civilians and terrorists. They don't wear uniforms. They fired missles from urban areas and used women and children as nearby human shields 1500 terror missles fired at Israel in that short conflict alone. What response did they expect? The wonder is that so few civilians were killed in Gaza, showing the care with which the Israelis chose their targets. Don't condemn Israel for defending itself, make Hamas accountable for the death and destruction it has brought Gaza. The real criminals are Hamas, who were even condemned by HRW.

Israel has always risked the lives of Israeli soldiers, by carefully inserting its troops and conducting door to door operations instead of merely bombing and devastating everything. Israel drops pamphlets and makes thousands of cell-phone calls to warm the civilian population to leave the area, which unfortunately causes the terrorists and their leaders to to leave in advance of the attacks as well. When the British and Americans were bombing in Eastern Europe a few years ago, nobody complained and there was no self checking, when they used phosphorous bombs and blanketed civilian areas with bombs, killing countless innocent non-combatants.

Churchill knew the Nazis must be defeated at any cost. He rightfully realized that the best way to destroy German morale was to make as many Germans homeless as possible. So he did exactly that. Since Hamas definitely habitually fire out of civilian areas, and also definitely deliberately target civilians (d'you want to try to refute either of these claims?), there is no need to pussyfoot around stating they are 'accused' of war crimes - both these actions DEFINITELY ARE war crimes.

Since it is already known that around 10% of all missiles fired from Gaza don't actually make it out of Gaza, it would be interesting to know how many Gazan deaths currently attributed to Israeli strikes were actually caused by Hamas missiles - I guess we'll never know for certain. We do know that Hamas fired around 1500 missiles during the conflict, so in theory that's around 150 'own-goals' - are we to believe, in such a densely populated area, no other Gazan deaths were caused by these? Perhaps Israel's amazingly low rate of collateral damage is even more remarkable than they are currently given credit for!

My responses to your are being posted out of order (or not posted, whichever). You clearly do not uderstand international law. Look up 'collateral damage' on Wiki, and you'll see a good explanation, provided by Luis Moreno-Ocampo, who was Chief Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court at the time of the last Iraq war. Israel's civillian to combatant mortality rate in Pillar of Defence was approximately 1:1 - that of the US in Iraq and Afganistan has been estimated as 3:1 - but Gaza is much more densely populated than either iraq or afganistan, and also Hamas fire missiles from populated areas. What therefore IS clear is that the IDF are doing their best to avoid collateral damage, and, I may add, with considerable sucess.

Close to 50% do not make it out of Gaza. It is estimated half the civilians killed are caused by their own rockets.
