31. Stupid?
Luke ,   Sydney   (05.26.13)
The Celts came from central Europe. Normans from France. Then, of course, the Saxons from Germany. And many mor recently there has been groups from Africa and the Caribbean.
32. The British maimed and masscred "natives"
Shachar ,   Eilat   (05.26.13)
across the globe in the name of the British Empire. Now it is all coming back to haunt them. This is the point the killers were making, but the west being full of it's own self-importance and righteousness doesn't understand even the plain language of terror. Every person needs to respect the laws of the society they live in or society breaks down. Now we need to explain why we didn't respect the laws and customs of the places we conquered and decimated all those years ago.
33. Militants versus terrorists
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (05.26.13)
One step in the right direction would be for the media such as the BBC to stop calling terrorists 'militants'. This policy has led to moral confusion for young people and old. When, for instance, will the EU finally say that Hezbollah are terrorists?
34. good article
davdi ,   london   (05.26.13)
I agree that it is the stubborn, biased and naïve approach of well meaning liberal intellectuals who are responsible for appeasing, excusing, and protecting extremism. To some people compromise leads to cooperation, but to others it is a sign of weakness and only reinforces extremism. We must express, delineate, and defend basic principles (like equal rights of women, freedom of press to criticize and poke fun at others including islam, etc) and expect everyone to respect these principles.
35. The whole thing freaks everyone out
Ezra ,   sandiego usa   (05.26.13)
Anyone with any sense of well being is freaked out by such behavior. This sends a negative message to any converts to that belief system. It's not a good selling point. I think this latest incident has tarnished the group for many years. The damage is done.
36. To #28 Simon
miri ,   israelspespe   (05.26.13)
I usually don't correct poor english - but yr "profit" mohammed is just too much ! take note : prophet
37. Solutions?
Bertram ,   London, UK   (05.26.13)
It never ceases to amaze me how so many here propose 'solutions', more often than not based on factual error and fallacious argument. I have no solution to terrorism. It has always existed, just like crime in general. Only post no. 29 seems to make any sense. All countries can do is to attempt to strengthen themselves as inclusive societies. No guarantee that violent crime or murderous ideologies will disappear but maybe there might be less fertile ground for their propagation. Throughout history 'troublesome' people have been imprisoned, executed, deported, enslaved. These 'solutions' only bring temporary respite to societies which themselves are troubled. So, let's not be fooled by the easy 'answer' - there isn't one.
38. Why would anyone think it's "enough"?! It's not "enough" for
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.26.13)
Israelis after so many years of horrific terror attacks on our civilian population. I don't think that the docile Europeans, so unused to mass- violence will show more gumption than sons & daughters of Zion. If the Shoah haven't taught us that "Never Again" means NEVER AGAIN, nothing ever will.
39. #3 is right! Israelis have no credibility in ethics.
Mary   (05.26.13)
Palestinians have the right and duty to expect that those Jews who move to their countries respect basic ethical tenets. Well said! Israeli colonizers media have no right to teach others about ethical behaviour!.
40. To No. 38
Bertram ,   London, UK   (05.26.13)
The '...docile Europeans, so unused to mass violence...'? Are you so confined to your narrow existence that you are completely unaware of the history of Europe of the last one hundred years? The millions lost on all sides in the First World War? The Armenian Massacre? The millions of Russians murdered by Stalin? The thousands killed in the Spanish Civil War? The 30 million Russians killed in World War 2? The thousands killed in London during Hitler's bombing of London in 1940? The thousands killed, maimed, tortured and raped in the Balkans during the 1990s? Yes - really unused to mass violence.
41. #40:You could've knocked me over with a feather,dear Bertram
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.26.13)
Thanks for giving us a rundown of Europe's recent & violent history. Of course I was referring to the POST war period, particularly in the Western Europe. Unfortunately events that touched upon previous generation don't get transferred to the next one(at least not in a conscious way) otherwise we'd be rid of wars hundreds of years ago.Europeans of said kind ARE docile, uneducated, lazy and unaware of true value of their freedoms. I know: I lived there (on both sides of The Curtain) for 30 years. You Sir are beyond repair...
42. Islam should be illegal in the West.
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (05.26.13)
Christianity and Judaism are illegal in Saudi Arabia, and either illegal or harassed in most of the other 60 or so Islamic countries. Shut down ALL the mosques in Europe and the US and let these people live in one of those many countries where their religion is in charge, if Islam is that important to them. It's not a religion, anyway. It's a political system that they want to impose on everyone. I don't want it. We are so stupid.
43. To No. 42
Bertram ,   London, UK   (05.26.13)
I agree with your last statement but with the minor amendment of a change from 'we are' to 'I am'.
44. #42:You're 100% right and in you have right to demand this,
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.26.13)
but: tell it to the judge.... Our "Way of Life" (as in: free, democratic, pluralistic) wouldn't suffer ONE iota had we purged ourselves of Islam. That ideology (that's what it is) has not one redeeming factor going for itself. Not in the eyes of a Western, civilized spectator anyway. It is a vile, primitive and utterly revolting male cult of oppression.
45. The truth about Islam. Wake up, Bertram
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (05.26.13)
Islam wants to conquer the West as it conquered all of North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia centuries ago. It is an ideology, as tom says, that they want to impose upon us, by force, as they have to the countries that are now Islamic. Where are the Zoroastrians in Iran? Forced conversion to Islam. Any religion that keeps its women in shapeless bags is bizarre. Any religion that breeds the sick sadistic levels of cruelty and violence that it does should be illegal. The butcher in London with blood on his hands is no different from the Arabs in the police station in Ramallah a few years ago showing the Jewish blood on their hands or the animals that beheaded Daniel Pearl or the scum that took our welfare money here in Massachusetts and then blew up people at the marathon. I have no use for them.
46. #42. If you are suggesting the "West" should mimic the...
Persian CAT   (05.26.13)
the Saudis, then you are dumber than a door knob, Baruck. By the way, how come you forgot the fact the Christianity and Judaism are NOT illegal in major advanced Muslim countries like Iran and Turkey?! If fact the Jews and Christians are doing very well there, if you care to know. "Saudi" Arabia is the armpit of Islam, backward and ignorant, just like you.
47. “isolated act of psychopaths."
jon ,   uk   (05.26.13)
maybe he should add and say not all Muslims are terrorists but most of the terrorists are Muslims
48. To No. 44
Bertram ,   London, UK   (05.26.13)
Can we include all oppressive religious ideologies? Catholicism? Orthodox Judaism? If so, I am entirely with you.
49. #46 Iran is not an advanced country
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.26.13)
Since the Islamic Revolution, Iran has regressed into a 7th century dark age country. Jews and Christians are a religious minority. Jews keep a low profile because their status is precarious. Christians are harassed and Bahai are persecuted. Iran likes to believe the country is more advanced and superior to other Muslim/Arab countries but that is not the reality.
50. Truth
Stuart Wragg ,   Cape Town   (05.26.13)
Here is the truth. There is no historic nation of Palestinians. In 1948 the entire Jordan, Israel and West Bank areas were known as Palestine and ruled by the British. In 1948, the British via the UN Mandate allowed the state of Israel to be formed as the historical land of the Jews. The rest of the area became Jordan. People living in the West Bank were Jordanians until the 1967 war when Jordan was convinced by Egypt to attack Israel and annihilate them. They lost the war and were pushed back and Israel annexed the West Bank. The people who stayed there were Jordanians. Some fled to what was left of Jordan and others stayed. Before 1967, they were self ruled by there own government and Kinf hussein. History is clear. The Palestianians i.e. Arabs, are not a seperate people and never had a capital city called Jerusalem. They only became interested in Jerusalem when the Jews took it back. Jerusalem is mentioned over a thousand times in the Old Testament as well as new and not ever in the Quran. Go figure. So, Islam extremism is ancient and nothing new. I have said this before and will say it again, Muslim people themselves are not necessarily violent, it is the Islamic religion that is violent and those that follow the actual teachings of Jihad become violent. The UK needs to stand up and be British again. Dont tolerate extremism, follow British principles of decency and respect for law and order or else. So kicking extremists out? Go for it UK and quickly before your society degenerates even further. Respects to Lee Rigby's comrades and family and to all your armed forces. Support them, they need it.

52. # 51 Bertram
Oscar ,   US   (05.27.13)
Can we make a difference between oppressive retrograde religions that kill if you do not obey and those that do not kill but morally reprimand? Can we make a difference between murderers in the name of god and murderers for money (the former cannot be re-educated or bought, the later can)
53. #3 jarda
Oscar ,   US   (05.27.13)
for a long time the Czech republic has been a favorite destination for mongers worldwide. Why cannot you keep it like this and need to stick your nose in things you do not understand?
54. Jarda from Eurostan
Mike ,   Australia   (05.27.13)
Jarda. Keep your opinions to Europe you anti Semite. Does your country have a border dispute with Israel? I don't think so. So here is the answer to the Palestinian problem. They need to emigrate to the Czech Republic and become your neighbours. Enjoy you opinionated moron.
55. The issue
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.27.13)
I really think that the issue is one of radicalization. When you have imams preaching hatred and violence from every mosque, you can expect the worst. No religion is immune, but it does seem to strike more frequently -- and far more violently -- in Islam.
56. he said
nora ,   gaza   (05.27.13)
