1. Better to just ignore this threat and maybe it
A ,   Belgium   (06.03.13)
will disappear, right Fishman? Maybe Israel shouldn't be concerned about the Iranians trying to build nuclear weapons either.
2. #1 what he did not say
(06.03.13)
The real threat to Israel has nothing to do with Syria or Iran. The real threat is Obama's effort to make a new Arab state in Judea and Samaria, a state that will immediately render Israel undefensible and not viable.
3. #2 The real threat
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (06.03.13)
is not giving the Arabs and Christians of Samaria and Judea the same rights as Jews. If Israel did this most people would stop objecting to the occupation, but our politicians (who don't have a clue) have decided to follow a policy not out of place in Eastern Europe in the 1940's
4. You're missed the point!
Tim ,   Israel   (06.03.13)
Frishman, you're missing the point and you need to see the bigger picture! The IDF is worried about these missiles cos they may prevent possible air strikes to deal with the 'bigger' problems... It's a good job you're not chief of staff!

As a British subject, I was hoping you could explain Hague's decision to illegally arm Sunni Jihadists who are butchering Christian civilians in Syria. Would you agree that Hague's decision to rain death on helpless Libyan, Pakistan and Afghanistan civilians is similar to Rotterdam 1940? If you do not agree, could you explain the difference?
6. I don't even want to comment Fishman

7. "There's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser....
Just Sayin' ,   Israel   (06.03.13)
or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT!"
8. Fishman's fishy forecast
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.03.13)
Ynet paid this guy too much. Nowhere in the article do the words Hezbollah or Iran appear, who would and could be the end recipients of said missiles. Hezbollah would love to have them, of course, giving them the ability to shoot down any aircraft over Israel...like jumbo jets over Tel Aviv. Iran would love to have the system to shoot down any aircraft in the Gulf...be they American or Saudi or Kuwaiti. Who cares if the s300 is old and not up to snuff like the s400 - it is just as deadly.
9. s 300
dan ,   jerusalem,il   (06.03.13)
S 300 systems were first deployed by USSR in 1979,so they are over 30 years old.
10. oh 4 goodness sakes!
Jew ,   JewLandia (Israel)   (06.03.13)
we have always been the front line and we will always be the front line. what's the difference between a suicide bomber and these big new bombs absolutely nothing. All of them kill people and all of them leave us in the same place we are the front line. Mr. Frishman deal with it and get over it. Alternatively you might wish to consider revisiting this dialogue from "Men in Black": "Kay: We do not discharge our weapons in view of the public! Jay: Man, we ain't got time for this cover-up bullshit! I don't know whether or not you've forgotten, but there's an Arquillian Battle Cruiser that's about to... Kay: There's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT!" Like I said we are the front line and we have learned to live with it!
11. #3 What does your "real threat" have to do
A ,   Belgium   (06.03.13)
with Syria being armed with missiles that could blow holes in Tel Aviv? But why not just give Judah and Samaria to the "palestinians" and let them shoot rockets into any coastal city? From my home in Samaria, I could see and hear Skud missiles falling on Tel Aviv, I'm sure "palestinian" terrorists would enjoy this sort of show even more, and would be forever thankful to people like you who allowed them the opportunity.
12. #2 "The real threat to Israel has nothing to do with Syria
A ,   Belgium   (06.03.13)
or Iran. " You' re absolutely correct. It's people like #3 who are the real threat to Israel
13. and this explains y panic levels r being raised:
W. Turner ,   Israel   (06.03.13)
"Earlier in the meeting, committee chairman Knesset Member Avigdor Lieberman said that security issues take precedence over standard of living issues." Can't those people in the government multi-task?!
14. not a well-thought-out piece
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.03.13)
this article is based on some incredibly sloppy thinking. first of all, it really doesn't matter where the s-300s are coming from, whether they are "factory-fresh" or transferred from the russian army (along with their operators?!) - they are capable of tracking and shooting down aircraft over most of israel, including passenger jets using ben gurion airport, and almost every military air base in the country. the fact that they are 20 years old is a red herring - so are israel's f-15s and f-16s. so what? and the silliest argument of all is that syria has more dangerous weapons, like the yakhont. so? can the yakhont shoot down 144 airplanes? does the yakhont somehow make the s-300 less deadly, or will the syrians not use them, because mr fishman declared them obsolete? apart from an opportunity for mr fishman to sneer at the air force or the cabinet, this article has nothing much to offer in the way of analysis or insight.
15. #5
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (06.03.13)
We haven't actually armed the Rebellion in Syria But if we did what has it got to do with you?
16. What the government is not mentioning
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (06.03.13)
to the Israeli people is that Saudi Arabia can own Israeli airspace anytime it likes. With the S-400
17. Liberal democracy in Palestine Israel only solution to war

illegally occupied Native American land called Silver Bay, Minn. and from one descendant of murderous European settlers in particular.
19. #15
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (06.03.13)
It is irritating when a subject of an aggressive and brutal nation criticizes us for self-defense. This is not hypocrisy, it is racial supremacism at its worst. I hope most British are not like you. Everyone knows that the UK supplies Sunni Jihad (those nice guys who rape Kafir (Christian) women, or who murder prisoners and eat their body parts) making you complicit with, if not responsible for, their war crimes. You also hinted Israeli activities like building homes in our homeland is like some Second World War atrocity, but then ignored the fact that your crimes include bombarding civilian targets in far away countries for no apparent reason, in a manner that reminds everyone of some of the most serious war crimes ever committed. by the way, Saudis don't have S-400s, they have Patriot PAC-3
20. S 300
Etienne Prinsloo ,   Sydney River Canada   (06.04.13)
The S300 remains a highly capable surface to air system with potential devastating consequences for military transports and civilian aircraft as well as combat planes. The point being that Russia always has and always will put it's ideology ahead of reason. Especially with Putin fancying himself as the new Stalin.
21. oops ''#15'' was meant for #19

22. Easy talking...
Muhammad Ab. UK ,   London uk   (06.05.13)
To no#3 go live in West Bank for a week then see how you talk. As a Muslim I see both sides of cover and all media is anti israel
23. A fuss over an enemies weapons?
Get Real ,   UK   (06.05.13)
Quite right for the military to identify threats posed by an enemy acquiring weapons systems. That is their task ,as it is to plan how to counter such weapons. We expect them to know more than the politicians and to advise them accordingly. The threat that these missles and aircraft in the hands of Syria pose can not be played down nor can the transfer of missles to Hezbollah. Iran is another threat but again contingency planning is essential.
24. Why is Ynet not displaying my comments...
Jonathan   (06.06.13)
They are not offensive or inappropriate in any way. I don't have to agree with the writer, you know...
25. Thanks
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (06.06.13)
Thanks for putting things into perspective. It's scary to imagine, even though we all know so, that government "policies" are made up out of sentiments of hysteria.
