31. What do you expect?
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (06.16.13)
From a person who says schvartzer Goyim from Ethiopia are Jews when he was paid by the government make such ruling when no real gadol holds that they are? Rav Ovadia is the best rabbi the government can buy!!!!!
32. Rav Ovadia said what the leading Zionist Rabbis think.
S Judah ,   jerusalem   (06.16.13)
Harshly, but almost all the leading Nationalist Rabbi's and all the other great Rabbi's of israel are against Rav Stav's appointment. It is unclear to me why, because Rav Stav has publically declared that he would adhere to the rulings of Rav Ovadia and Rav Amar. And I know for a fact that all the Tzohar Rabbis study Rav Ovadia's rulings and follow almost all of them. It is obvious and acknowledged by Rav Stav that he is not a halachic authority, perhaps there is a fear that he would misrule on inpotant issues. Still it is a mystery, but the truth should be acknowledged , he has very little support in any Rabinical circle. Bennett or Lapid's support is no support at all for such a position. Morover which Sephardi is going to take him seriously if Rav Ovadia has come out pubically against him. He won't get an invite to any Sephardi Beit Knesset
33. rabbi stav
nosson zvi ,   Yerushalayim   (06.16.13)
Our present cheif rabbi was crowned by Rabbis Elyashiv and Yosef . They wanted a man whom they can control. We would have has a head rabbi that would have been acceptable to all except for haretdim.. But our elders put in a man whom nobody admired. They should not cry now when a liberal dayan will be elected to the satisfaction of the majority of Jews of our country.
34. who needs a head rabbi anyway?
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (06.16.13)
This is like papism. Where does it say in the torah that there should be a head rabbi? There are too many factions and politicizing when there is a state religion. It only causes problems for normal people. Get rid of the pretenders.
35. Just like Iran
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (06.16.13)
In Iran they are celebrating because a "liberal" who was vetted by the extremist clerics has won the election - so too in Israel we may yet celebrate the election of Rabbi Stav, when in truth we would rather close down the whole apparatus and have it like it is in communities abroad - those who want it opt in and pay for it
36. Why, because Stav is not a close relative of Ovadia?

And we all wonder why is Judaism so weak and why is messiah so far.
40. 33 Nosson - Rav Stav is not liberal
S Judah ,   Jerusalem   (06.16.13)
These are direct quotes from his press conference. " Adherence to Rav Ovadia’s Piskei Halacha, Rabbi Stav stated that most rulings set by Rav Ovadia as chief rabbi and the period following are acceptable to him and the Chief Rabbinate" "The rav explains there will be as much compromise as possible regarding bureaucratic red tape but zero compromise on Halacha "
41. 36 Think again!
S judah ,   Jerusalem   (06.17.13)
"Why, because Stav is not a close relative of Ovadia? " Thats the wrong answer, Rav Stav is campaining for the position of the Ashkenazi Chief, Not that of the Sephardi chief, and may I take this time to point out. That most Israelis are sephardim and most of those who are observant or traditional are Sephardim and therefore most israeli's are interested in the position of the new reshion le zion and not Rav Stav, despite the secular press thinking otherwise.
