Martin ,   Israel and Canada   (06.17.13)
In my view, this is the worst sin there is. These people need to repent.
2. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef shlit"a is one of the greatest tzaddikim
Sam ,   Yuda veShomron   (06.17.13)
in our generation. He was right about Daati Leumi, he was right about Bennett and he's right about Stav. And if Lapid, Bennett and Piron voted for him, one can well imagine who Stav is.
3. To #Sam
Avi Ze'ev ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.17.13)
Is your name Sam Kamtza or Sam Bar Kamtza? Speaking of names, Rav Ovadia's nom de guerre is Rabbi Zecharia ben Avkolos. I study and respect Rav Ovadia's rulings on many halachic issues. But his speech and behavior is atrocious, pushes Jews away from Torah, and spreads hatred. Truly disgusting behavior that brings shame to the Torah world.
4. European Medievalism is cancerous foreign tumor in Judaism
Restorer ,   Israel   (06.17.13)
Whether Ashkenazi or Sepharadi
5. 2 If you judge people by hearsaying..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.17.13)
can i imagine who you are?
6. Kamza and Bar Kamza
Kamza BarKamza ,   Yavne , Israel   (06.17.13)
Talmud Bavli, Gitin 55b-56a A man, who had a friend, Kamza, and an enemy, Bar Kamza, decided to hold a banquet, and wishes to invite his friend, Kamza. His servants misunderstands and thinks that he asks for Bar Kamza, and brings him instead. When the man hosting the banquet sees Bar Kamza, he wonders why his enemy is there. In order to mock him maybe? He then tells him to leave, something Bar Kamza attempts to convince him is not needed, first by stating that he will pay for his meal, then for half the banquet, and then for all the banquet, but the man hosting the banquet is adamant. Upon being thrown out, Bar Kamza feels let down by the Rabbis, who are apparently taking part in the banquet, not objecting on the man hosting the banquet being obstinate, so he goes to the “king” (the Aramaic text has Qaisar, how to precisely translate this term I am not so sure) and accuses “the Jews” for having revolted, something he wants to prove by bringing a sacrifice, which he will make sure will be rejected. Being faced with the blemished sacrifice, and the obvious threat against peace in refusing to bring the sacrifice, the Rabbis discuss whether they should offer it anyway “for the peace of the kingdom.” R. Zechariah jumps in an disagree, stating that that would make people think that blemished animals are permitted for sacrifice,” an argument the Rabbis apparently accept, for then to discuss whether they should kill Bar Kamza, again having R. Zechariah objecting, stating that that would make people think that there is a death penalty on putting blemishes on animals. The text ends with R. Yohanan stating that the timidity of R. Zechariah was the cause of the destruction of “their house,”[2] the Temple, as well as the exile, though the introducing verse states that it is because of the confusion of Kamza and Bar Kamza.
7. A Microcosm
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (06.17.13)
This incident is a microcosm of the geometries swirling aound the Holy Land right now. I am not familiar with Rabbi Stav's policy position on many issues but perhaps the extremists on all sides are the problem. How many of the "leaders" in the jewish and wider world are aware of the "Golden Mean" idea in all things as explained by Maimonides? P.S. All this jockeying for position over the Chief Rabbi's role in the State of Israel is quite a spectacle. However the Tanach mandated way for a real King of the Jewish people to be chosen was via the auspices of a prophet. i.e. What Samuel did. (This is where the divine right of kings idea comes in. All the other monarchies later on in history, e.g. the European Houses, copied this idea from circa 3000 years ago.)
8. Moshiach Ben David
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (06.17.13)
The time is now.. The infighting and the scandals are just a sign that we are now entering the time of Moshiach Ben David. Chevle Mashicha

10. Accusations galore. Not a shred of hard evidence.
Restorer ,   Israel   (06.17.13)
The definition of leshon hara And based on rumor in addition. So many conversions were "unconverted" in the same way -- based on hearsay alone, without even talking to the victims
11. Thuggery+ Fifdom= increasing intolerance of religion
Mea   (06.17.13)
It seems the rabbinate is just a Jewish Mafia.
12. R Yossef causing damage
eddie ,   London UK   (06.17.13)
This is all for Yosef/ Shas/Deri cronies to have their own relatives in the position of Chief Rabbi. Also, to #2, R Yosef was wrong about Oslo, was wrong about Arafat, and was wrong about peres.
13. Indict R. Ovadia Yosef for incitement!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.17.13)
14. #2 Go ask the wizard for a brain
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (06.17.13)
Your letter shocked me. If Ovadia Yosef asked you to jump off a cliff would you do it? Read what you wrote. In 1930 Germans were using the same kind of justifications to justify their support for Hitler. Is this what we've come to? Fascism by any name, always smells the same.
15. standard of behavior
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (06.17.13)
It seems that these creeps who up hold the high principles of the Torah can stoop so low as violence. What kind of standard of behavior is this?

17. Ovadia will not be remembered too kindly
Al   (06.17.13)
"If you didn't have enemies. you create them." This guy takes the cake for doing more to split the Jewish people than uniting them. Jeez.. and he is suppose to be a righteous man.
18. Larry, Lary, Larry they are Cyborgs
Bill, C. ,   West Minister   (06.17.13)
These are cloned, imbreeded Euos(no pun),,,,,, Larry, Larry, Larry they are CYBORGS.
19. Lashon Hara?
Sam ,   Yuda veShomron   (06.17.13)
How dare you talk against such a holy man. What chutzpah! Rabbi Yosef shlit"a is well knowledgable in the all laws of Torah including those of lashon hara. For your knowledge, the law of LH states that if we do not take a stand against an anti Torah person, our silence is not counted as righteousness, but as foolishness for allowing a cancer to grow unhindered. Start learning Jewish law properly as well laws of respecting talmidei chachamim before showing off your ignorance.
20. there is something to be learned
Robert ,   Antwerp Belgium   (06.17.13)
There is something to be learned from the catholic church in the way they choose the pope. All those eligible to vote are secluded without contact to the outside world until the new pope is chosen. I suppose the same happened when the head of the sanhedrin was chosen and when the rosh galuta (chief rabbi of the galut ) was chosen. Such a solution would avoid lachon hara in public. Of course, Obadia Yossef , Steinman, Kamenievsky and would have to mellow a little bit to accept sitting together with Rabbis of the national religious , conservative and other Rabbis. But if they do, it may bring the messiah faster seeing that all Rabbis are sitting together instead of insulting or cursing each other
21. tzaddik my ass!
notzaddik ,   raanana   (06.17.13)
We've had 2 tzaddikim in recent times one's name was Kook - who was Hillel and the other's name was Kahane-who was Shamai. All the rest today are garbage including ayatollah yussuf. These guys invent their own halacha and stray from Torah day and night. And all the haredi clowns worshipping their rabbis are about as Jewish as the pope.
22. #19, And where is your evidence
Jake   (06.17.13)
that Rabbi Stav is an "anti-Torah person"? Where is R. Yosef's evidence? He based his opinion on heresay, gossip, rumor....admitting that he had never met the man. He should have arranged to meet with R. Stav in person to discuss his position on Torah and Halachah, before pronouncing him an "evil man",
23. Rabbi Yosef
chanawashdc ,   Washington DC   (06.17.13)
His comments might be more credible if his son wasn't one of the candidates for the job.
24. #22 moderate rabbi
2Mad ,   גולה בצרפת   (06.17.13)
Would you buy a moderately running car ? Or marry a moderately-faithful wife ?
25. #23, Which job?
Jake   (06.17.13)
R. Yosef's son cannot possibly be competing with R. Stav for the same job. R. Stav is candidate for Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi. R. Yosef's son's position of interest would be Chief Sephardic Rabbi.
26. #24 Stupid Analogy
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (06.18.13)
Your analogy shows really faulty logic. It's comparing the job of chief rabbi to a car. It's also turning the word "moderate" into a criticism. The chief rabbi must represent all the factions in Israel. It's not his job to make us behave, it''s his job to serve the public.
27. And yet another excellent argument for
Shrinkdave ,   Miami USA   (06.18.13)
Atheism
28. 24-So moderate dress also bad - women must wear burkas!
Israeili Jew ,   Israel   (06.18.13)
29. R. Yosef guilty of high-handed (Num.15.30-31) leshon hara
Restorer ,   Israel   (06.18.13)
The cited Scripture states that high-handed wrong-doing is blasphemy -- not to mention chilul hashem. Until R. Yosef and his fellow blasphemers make teshuvah, Scripture dictates "le-havdil bein kodesh l'chol." That rules out compromising with these Korach-Balaam hybrids!!!
30. Bet Hillel-Bet Shamai analogy NOT valid
(06.18.13)
Bet Hillel would have shunned these evil men. Bet Shamai would have take these Haredim slanderers out and stoned them to death!
