1. Can't have 2 state solution when Pals reject Jewish Israel
Sam ,   Canada   (06.26.13)
The Palestinians want to be given a state. They don't want to accept a Jewish state. So, if Israel wants to give the Palestinians a state as some bleeding heart Jews do, they will take it on the 1967 borders. They will continue trying to destroy Israel because they view that as part of their homeland. They may one day have a change of heart but it's not now.
2. Well said!
Dagan ,   Israel   (06.26.13)
3. Loser attitude. Loser ideology.
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.26.13)
Yea, it's too hard to do, so let's not even bother trying. With loser attitudes like Rosenfeld's, what's the point in trying? At the same time let's just accept the fact that 20% of Israeli's are poor and stop wasting time and effort on them. We can manage it by building big walls around them and making sure they stay away from us. And the environment? Let's just accept that pollution is a way of life, and that each year an additional 0.5% of the population will get sick and/or die from it. We can manage that too...at least for another 100 years when the health costs might mean we have to make sure it's just the poor people who are exposed to the pollution. What a wussie this guy is!
4. so what you're essentially saying...
daniel ,   helsinki   (06.26.13)
is that ultimately one side will disappear eventually. as far as i can see, israel is at the receiving end, and will have less support as time goes on, if current trend is sufficient to judge by.

6. Unlikely
Avi ,   TLV   (06.26.13)
We are not dealing with rational, civilized human beings. So until the politicians of the Arab world learn to communicate with words and not with rockets and suicide bombers there will not be a solution. Unfortunately, that may never happen as they cease to accept Jews and our existence. Israel will continue to be sovereign ghetto.
7. Brilliant
FH ,   Vienna   (06.26.13)
Sometimes the truth is obvious, but nobody realizes it. it needs people to speak out. This is a brilliant article! Hopefully, people start to realize!
8. Yes this conflict is unresolveable & arobs must be expelled.
Moshe ,   Usa   (06.26.13)
A program of expulsion must be drawn up so Jews can live next to Jews & arobs can be sent out to go to the primitive arob nations in the world that profess islooom imperialism, murder, honor murders & dictatorial domination.
9. This is NOT the Reality that must be faced
Michael Cecil ,   South Bend, U.S.A.   (06.26.13)
The reality that must be faced is that this political conflict originates in a fundamental THEOLOGICAL error by the Jewish, Christian and Muslim religious 'authorities'. The reality that must be faced is that, if it were not for the REFUSAL of these religious 'authorities' to repent of this Doctrinal error, this conflict could be resolved; not easily, but certainly. That Doctrinal error is the refusal to acknowledge that Isaiah, Daniel, Jesus and Mohammed taught the Doctrine of "resurrection" as a Doctrine of 'Rebirth'. For this Doctrinal Truth to be acknowledged would be the first step in resolving the theological and, then, the political conflicts which are based upon the contradiction of this Truth. But such an acknowledgement is precisely what these religious 'authorities' REFUSE to do; for reasons of pride, greed and the lust for power. Michael
10. Reality for Islam WRITTEN in the Koran
norbus ,   Jerusalem   (06.26.13)
Looking askance a problem does not solve it. Maimonides tried equating Allah to Ha'Shem and caused even more damage atop of destruction of the centre in Babylon. Koran is clear, Khaibar is clear, and nothing has changed in 1400 years A fool will try and compromise. The wise know that untill Koran is reworked , nothing can change its message of a superior prophet and the message, so plan to defend and hold. Contrary to weakening Abrahamic religious following, Islam has fed on Oil and Wahabism for last 100 years, population exploding from 200m to 1,3 bn. That era is coming to an end and the pendulum will swing the other way. Till then, no peace is likely nor possible. A Stand off Hudna is only state that might work, provided we do not fall for Human Rights, Political correctness or other post WWII tools meant to change the world.
11. As Israel Goes, So Will The World
emanon ,   USA   (06.26.13)
If Israel gives up more land to to the arabs, to the point it no longer exists, that will prove terrorism works and the rest of the will find itself under increasingly violent attacks util it will all be part of the theocratic caliphate that is part of their religion. Then, the fight will first begin: internal fighting to prove which faction, which individual, is the most extreme.
12. Rosenfeld's reality
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.26.13)
This is the reality for which Rosenfeld craves, for it is the only reality that offers him a "Greater Israel" and what he sees as a victory in a zero-sum game. Like most extremists, he is just another fool.
13. To the fools...
Taz Man ,   USA   (06.26.13)
...who think that there can be peace with these Muslim savages are beyond ignorant; this whole affair WILL be settled on the field of battle--period!
14. Iraeli-Arab peace
henry ,   manila   (06.26.13)
Lasting peace is NOT possible between Arabs and Jews unless both become TRUE CHRISTIANS and follow the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Muslim Arabs will be utterly destroyed and also the Jews apart from a remnant. It has been written so it shall come to pass in God's time.
15. Learn to live with it
Ab5678 ,   USA   (06.26.13)
I am glad world didn't think the Jews could live with the Hitler problem and tried otherwise.
16. Conflict can be resolved when Israel asserts her rights.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.26.13)
The conflict can be resolved quickly when Israel has the guts to assert her rights by taking these two necessary steps: 1. End ALL obscene Israeli support for evil Fictional Palestine. No more food, money, materials, electricity to our genocidal foes. 2. Assist "Palestinians" to leave our land, with reasonable compensation. Without Israeli support, many "Palestinians" would beg to leave Israel.
17. Wowsers! Now THATS another shocker.
Gideon Reader   (06.26.13)
Whoda thunk it? WAIT! There are still dooshbagonians who sell two, three and multi state solutions. Hozabout an Arab Summer. Arab Spring seems to have fled without anything but expended brass and nasty red-brown stains littering the sand. Oh well. As SecState John FN Kerry would say...I caant think of anything he has said that I really listened to. Sorry. It must be the "Magic Hat" thingy.
18. Then One Secular State Is Only Solution
World Citizen ,   the world   (06.26.13)
With no special rights (privileges) for Jews. In other words, equal rights, opportunities, education, water, the right of return and jobs for all of the people including Palestinians, gays, Christians, Muslims, people of colour. Then formalize these changes with a constitution and bill of rights. Declare your borders and leave the Golan Heights and Shabaa Farms areas. Under international law Israel has no legal standing to be in Lebanon or Syria. Otherwise the world will know your country is an apartheid state and formal UN sanctions will follow sooner or later.
19. #8 "A program of expulsion must be drawn up"
A ,   Belgium   (06.26.13)
It was already drawn up,peaceful "transfer" of the arab intruders to Jordan, as invisoned by Rechavam "Ghandhi" Zaeevi. Unfortunatley, Ghandhi was murdered by arab terrorists before his plan could be inplemented.
20. The best solution..
E. ,   Israel   (06.26.13)
We should stop all negotiations with the Arabs and Israel should declare that there will NEVER be a "Palestinian'' State and build everywhere as many homes for jews as possible.
21. Bravo!!!
dr harry ,   Jerusalem   (06.26.13)
The day I open up Ynet and read an article like this, I say, there is HOPE. I even had to look to see what website I was in. Wow! it was Ynet. YES, it is time for the State to face reality. The arabs will never except the currents situation. So why is the State running after them?? It is like a guy being beaten to death, but still at every chance, says, I want to be your friend!!! "the conflict, in its current state, is irresolvable." Stop with the Gestures. Continue building. Otherwise "the State of Israel is finished".
22. Waiting for Godot
Rafael Sydney   (06.26.13)
What could happen - the refugees; when all the real refugees die off, the money could dry up; Lebanon might be obliged to give theirs citizenship; the Koran sentence recognising the Jews link to Israel might be promoted (unlikely); the leftist intellectuals might find a new cause; Jordan = Palestine might become a reality - different options. Time is on Israel's side.
23. bad comparison
Ron from NJ ,   Newark, USA   (06.26.13)
The author's conclusion is correct. But he unfortunately undercuts himself by stating that "The world has given us many problems – in physics, math, philosophy and biology – which cannot be solved." In fact, with the exception of philosophy, there are very few problems in these disciplines that remain to be solved. And there is every reason to believe they can and will be solved. Kol hamosif gorai'a. Better no analogy than a bad analogy.
24. #18 Another boring lecture by another boring
A ,   Belgium   (06.26.13)
nobody about the meaning and misuse of the word "apartheid". *YAWN*
25. #13:You're probably right as to the battlefield option, but
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.26.13)
I would not use the term "savages", altough it is very tempting. Just remember what the "advanced" Germans did not so long ago! It really puts things in perspective.
26. It's about time this was stated explicitly
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (06.26.13)
The only solution is a one-state solution with most of the Arabs transferred to Arab countries. Israel should take advantage of it's strength while it still maintains a margin of strength and especially while the Arab countries, especially Syria and Lebanon, are in turmoil with their own problems, and Saddam and Muamar are gone.
27. Shaul Rosenfeld ignores 10,000 years of human history
spyguy ,   Seattle   (06.26.13)
The basic reality is the situation in the ME will eventually get resolved, probably sooner than later. If it is not resolved by negotiation it will be resolved by war and given the differences in resources between Israel and the Arabs, the most likely loser will be Israel. Even if it takes a while before the "real" war starts, just being in a constant "near-war" state will cause many people to abandon Israel. Rosenfeld is not being realistic about what can happen.
28. RE: World Citizen
M ,   M   (06.26.13)
Besides all the other nonsense you just wrote, thinking that in a million years (open)Gays would ever be given full rights in an Arab country is just insanity. Homosexuality is punishable by death in nearly every Arab country. Israel is the only country in the Middle East that openly welcomes LGBT, in the army and all walks of life including political. You live on a different planet apparently.
29. TWO STATE SOLUTION DEAD AS A DOORNAIL
deborah Lurya ,   Irvine   (06.26.13)
You make a reasonable case, but your solution that we must "manage the conflict" is dead wrong- we must end the conflict decisively, or we will be attrited (bled to death) to dead.
30. Peace with someone who wants you dead and gone? Unlikely.
Juha Teuvonnen ,   Boston,MA   (06.26.13)
It's no secret that the vast majority of Palestinians want Israelis dead and Israel gone. They view the negotiations as a tactical move to achieve concessions that will better position them for achieving their final goal - destruction of Israel. The talk about borders, be they 1967, 1948 or any other year is pointless. The Palestinian side wants ALL the land, as in everything that used to be British Mandate. Eventually they will start a war, which they will eventually lose, just like they lost all of the other ones. The conflict will likely take place on the lands currently occupied by palestinians and it will result in them fleeing from the fighting once again. If they want to live there, they have to accept Israel, whether they like it or not.
