The majority of Israelis, Jews, Galus Jews support the draft of the ultra orthodox into the IDF. You have plenty of units that are for Haredim only and are made to be kosher. You have no more excuses. If you think putting on that "tame" uniform weakens your men from being faithful to God and Torah than you truly are as obnoxious as Al from Montreal says you are. If not the IDF than at least do civil service and there to you have absolutely no excuses to get out of doing your part like everyone else. The seculars are a problem when it comes to maintaining the Jewish charecter of the country, they seem to care less, but that is a seperate issue from charedim having to do their part in protecting the country we all live in. You have no excuses left. Amalek? you know that Amalek comes in many disguises. Sometimes I wonder if the black uniforms also disguise Amaleks that refuse to do their share.

Just as Islam ,a Saudi friend told me has 32 different streams, Heinz has 57 varieties, so Judaism sprouted 28 different groups since the demise of the central governing body in Baghdad in the 10th Century. What you see now, is a fight by some to protect their free franchise where the State finds all their living costs if they spend their time in study, and others who resent the freebies given at their cost

65. Haredim may be right
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A./Israel   (07.10.13)
Haredim have the right to fight against a secular state. Their motivation, values, meaning of life is different from the secular view. Jerusalem is a religious city. What the hell a haredim soldier was doing in Mea Sharim in uniform? Provoking the community? Well, he got his answer.

this is a very small fringe part of the jewish population. they consider army service as a violation of religious law for a variety of reasons. they consider the army to be not sufficiently jewish since it is integrated with women. they also believe that joining the army violates their obligation to study religious texts throughout their life. some do not even recognize the state since they are waiting for the arrival of the mosiach,, a savior of jews who is descendent from king david. however, there is no source in jewish religious texts, either the torah or the talmud which supports their positions.

68. The difference is not between religious beliefs but
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (07.10.13)
it is between terror and normal law following citizens. Take a look around. For e.g. There are many palestians who do not agree with voilence and want to have a peaceful life. Do they rule? The answer is no. They are afraid for their safety and as a good citizen do not involve themselves to their fellow citizens to create problems. The one ruling them is Hamas, Hizballa & muslim brotherhood, as they are voilent and others are afraid of them. We call them terrorist. The same here. I agree that many hareidim are against these voilent acts and only few bunch of goons are creating problems but who rules here? The voilent ones. We will face terrorist in our own country within our own religion. I hope our government takes a serious note of these types of incidents and do the needful to unroot these terrorist once and for all.

Israeli ,   Ashdod   (07.10.13)
The palestines are throwing stones and we are calling to name it as terrorist act (true). Now hareidim are throwing stones and we are calling to name it as WHICH act?
74. the majority of the comments is agressive?
hadassah ,   spain   (07.10.13)
The majority of the comments are horrible and written without wisdom. Most of you comment as if you yourself are free of sin. Start cleaning yourselves first.
75. @72 whoever 65 is, they need 2 respect IDF!

77. @74 I am clean, did full military duty & do reserve service
Jew with Cojones ,   Israel   (07.10.13)
I live in Israel and just like you I can say what I want when I want because I have earned my right by service in the army. You have the right to your opinion too...but please do bear in mind that it is difficult for me to take your comments seriously when you are judging us all the way from Spain!
78. #77 hadassah @74 is right
Dave   (07.10.13)
serving in the army doesn't prove you're free of sin. If anything, it proves just the opposite. Most guys in the army are not clean of sin. Very hard to find 1 who is. However, just like haredim are entitled to their opinion, non-Jews and non religious Jews are entitled to their opinion too. But it doesn't make you more right than them.
79. OK Lets put it in context
Tim ,   Brighton   (07.10.13)
A gutless bunch of thugs under the guise of religion seek to attack injure and possibly even kill one man who is on his own for serving in the army to protect THEIR way of life? To put it in context...A gutless bunch of thugs who put our Judaism and all it stands for to shame
80. to#39 Pinny
exUK ,   Tel Aviv   (07.10.13)
Religion is the main cause of all trouble on the planet. The Charedi versus other Jews;Shia v sunni etc. The problem with your usually well meaning crowd,is that in order to "protect" your beliefs, you dont allow contact with anone or anything which may influence any of you that there is another way to live and to believe(or NOT) There is no such thing as a Jewish child or Muslim child.Only a child who is born of a jewish mother or Muslim mother.Children are not able to think or decide for themselves, only to be brainwashed by parents,or sheilded from other possibilities. I dont suppose you will, but you should read RICHARD DAWKINS book THE GOD DELUSION (G-d) if you prefer. Then at least you would know logical reasons for your community's insularity,or even MAYBE consider another way?
81. Marrano
CIX ,   London   (07.10.13)
I would really laugh if the Mashiach end up being a Marrano twice in Exile... the Ultra-Orthodox will probably learn a lot from that! Loving-Kindness (Chesed) is the only way forward... Who ever act against it push the redemption further away... This attitude is a shameful to our ancestors, our G*D and harmful to our cause... Redemption/World Peace is at stake... And they call themselves religious and Holly???
82. What are they angry about?
Leib Alper ,   NYC USA   (07.10.13)
We have seen all over the torah that klal yisroel had an army. we dont here that its anything bad to serve from the torah. I mean no rabbi had ever even protested it and i think they also valued torah!
83. Pinni is no Jew.
Israelit ,   Israel   (07.11.13)
He is an anti-Semitic rabid hate filled excuse of a human being. Don't even waste reason on him. He doesn't deserve it.
