1. What is happening to the Palestinians?
(07.17.13)
What is happening to them? They are more determined as ever to wipe us off the face of the earth. The 'children' in Gaza attend summer camps to learn how to kill Israeli soldiers. They are manufacturing rockets hoping to reach Tel Aviv. They are smuggling weapons from Sinai. Will these weapons be used to negotiate peace? According to a survey Ynet published last month, more than 60% of Palestinians support suicide bombings. Who do you assume they will commit theses acts against? Their children or ours?
2. One thing still bothers me...
JtC ,   NIr Eliyahu / Jhb   (07.17.13)
Let's say we accede to the EU demand, and pretend they are doing this for a genuine reason. Why have they still not given us a satisfactory reason as to why they don't apply the same standards to all the other cases in the world which are much much worse than Israel in human rights terms, who have taken land much much greater, who are much much less justified in doing so? This is the crux, and will highlight the REAL motive behind this latest move.
3. Territorial disputes
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.17.13)
If, as he says, only two MK's support the two states for two peoples, perhaps that shows just how unrealistic the two state solution has become. With the PA making unacceptable preconditions to talks, and a PA leadership whose term of office ended five years ago, it's no surprise that there has been little progress. In UK terms the Northern Irish issue took a long time to settle, and Gibraltar and the Falklands are still disputed. There are land disputes in the former Soviet Union and in Cyprus, and Iran and Iraq fought for eight years over a border dispute. Such disputes exist around the world, and have existed for centuries.
4. I agree with the author (Shimon Shiffer)
Israeli 2   (07.17.13)
No bellicose talk anymore. No more just flexing muscles. Trust in G-d! He has given you the OKAY to just do it!! ANNEX the territories including Jerusalem, DEMAND the world to obey G-d's rules and WARN that if they continue their crap talk, you will take over Syria, Sinai and Jordan until they get the full message.
5. O no the Europeans are mad!!!
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (07.17.13)
What is Europe? The EU is mostly a broken body that talks well beyond the actual strength of itself as a collective and certainly it's member states. Israel should merely shrug off the EU and show just how irrelevant this body is. Unlike the authors defeatist and ghetto mentality, EU condemnation or maybe some sort of sanction is not going to be the end of Israel or dictate its national directives.
6. Can someone explain?
Brent ,   Ramat Gan   (07.17.13)
What are the implications of this ban? How will it affect citizens living in 'mainland' Israel- TLV, Haifa, Jerusalem?
7. True!
Vassilios ,   Cyprus   (07.17.13)
Great article!
8. Stop the arrogance
Yaron ,   Israel   (07.17.13)
We have to stop with our arrogance. Saying EU is irrelevant, continuing doing whatever we do, thinking we are alone in the world. If the EU is irrelevant STOP BEGGING money from them!!!! Why should an European citizen want to finance a project in Israel???? You cannot ask for tovot, and on the other hand do not do nothing in return. Like lately, pushing the whole world to fight terrorism,... and when it suits Israel it drops legal aid to sue Bank of China.
9. to #2
exUK ,   Tel Aviv   (07.17.13)
It is not relevant what is good or bad elsewhere. We are supposed to be a shining example, but instead are regarded as brutal occupiers. If we dont respond positively it will be bad for us and everyone involved.
10. TO WHOM TO TALK ?
jack ,   NETANYA   (07.17.13)
Remember it takes two to tango ,maybe ,instead of BIBI ,they should go directly to SARALEE.
11. EU balanced?
LR ,   Afula, Israel   (07.17.13)
I'm sure the EU offensive is balanced with equal demands that the Palestinian Charter be revised so they commit to live in peace with little Israel. No?
12. No interest in Gaza or West Bank?
Akiva ,   NYC   (07.17.13)
Who says Israelis are showing no interest in what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank? The main reason to oppose a PA state in the West Bank and Gaza is that there will be Iranian missiles inside Jerusalem as well as in Gaza. No one denies this, aside from the loony Left.
13. to#1
exUK ,   TEl Aviv   (07.17.13)
We cannot control Hamas. If we do not start to sort out West Bank,Hamas will be there and it will be worse.A 3rd generation Arab there, was not party to making this situation. We would be just as mad if we were they.
14. READ MY LIPS: THERE ***IS*** N O
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (07.17.13)
2 state = final solution... SHOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15. We will not obtain Natanz and Fordo in exchange for Yitzhar.
Ben ,   Israel   (07.17.13)
We will not obtain Natanz and Fordo in exchange for Yitzhar. By the way, nobody promised it to us. However one cannot say we will obtain nothing instead of Yitzhar. We obtain a catastrophe. Ben.
16. pacifists always get stepped on
Scott ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (07.17.13)
The answer is not appease, appease, but build, build , build. The fact that the EU took action proves they are concerned there are no longer a few thousand settlers, but almost 1 million.
17. To Brent in Ramat Gan.
Arne ,   Netherlands   (07.17.13)
It will not effect the lives of people living in those places in any way whatsoever.
18. Only be prepared to fight Israel survive...
Calabi ,   Sydney Aust   (07.17.13)
Jews! Jews! Jews! please do not fool yourself, the frequency of holocaust is not over yet. As far as the Jude strive well there is many many Europeans who is hatefully jealous. What is the difference between 1920s -1945 nazi and 2013 nazi? Well the former express it out in public. And the latter have 21st century silencer!!! After watching the holocaust documentaries you Jews better be prepare to defend and decide your own fade otherwise you all will regretted forever. God bless Israel!!!!!
19. EU and Western cowardice
Sam ,   Canada   (07.17.13)
Have the EU cowards checked if the Palestinians support 2 states for 2 peoples? No they don't. The EU and US are too afraid to push the matter with them. They just push the matter with Israel because they are not afraid of retribution. How does the West ever expect to solve the conflict if it is so gutless?
20. This is a joke compared to the deadly Oslo accord
(07.17.13)
That was a real killer. I think EU wants to say us that if you agree with us then we will really kill you, more people then in Oslo peace, much more. I remember that a few days before Yom Kippur war they said us do not do any preventive meassures because we will not support you. We listen and got 3000 dead and they got only Arab embargo.
21. Shimon a shiller for the Europeans that hate us
Yosi ,   Gilo-Jerusalem   (07.17.13)
When someone hates you, they are never impressed by any response. Construction on our land is not unlawful and is our right. That you would even say that only 2 mk's were against 2 states, is easily seen as a lie. Israel has time and time again said that it is willing to negotiate, but without preconditions. What, you want us to give them all of Israel prior to negotiating? Didn't you get the memo? Abbas wants it all and not one Jew would be allowed to live here. What position should we take? Bent over? What deluded initiative should we take? Not only are the Europeans creating this make-believe problem, the even large real problem is people like you that are so desperate to get raped and then say they love the rapist. Shimon, your logic is so slippery, like oil.
22. We should announce that we are annexing area C
Israel   (07.17.13)
23. Our arrogance is catching up with us
Avramele   (07.17.13)
We tell our friends to support us blindly or keep quiet. We tell those who are less than our friends to bug off. Then we complain that we are alone and therefore must act unilaterally without regard to others. We have fine tuned a national pathology of paranoia and self isolation.
24. Annex Area C
Bill Stein ,   USA   (07.17.13)
Schifferr is the one with his head in sand. Withdrawing back to the settlement bloc borders will cause a binational state within 5 years and is undefenseable. Area C is the holy Grail of Israel's security religious and legal claims in Judea and Samaria. If Bibi gives up areas of Area C his Goverment will be finished and there will be whole sale revolt within the Likud party who will bolt the party and more than likely join Jewish Home just as Kadima left Likud. Bibi will be out of a job and Naftali Bennett will win the next election. The Israeli people will never accept wholesale surrender of Israeli Legal Security and religious rights. Israelis will never allow Israel to go back to the 67 borders with millions of Palestinians within walking distance of Tel Aviv and the Mediterranean Sea. No more compromise. Annex Area C and low populated areas of Area B to streignten border have the Arab residents remain as permanent residents but PA or Jordanian citizens.
25. "Historic decisions"-leftist newspeak for surrender!
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.17.13)
26. Funding terror
eli ,   Yerushalayim   (07.17.13)
Shimon Shiffer can you please ask next time if you will meet a high ranking European politician, why they continue to fund "Stürmer like" school books in in the PA and never asked them to stop this and why they never ask them, to teach their children, how to life with Jews instead of how to hate and to kill them? Wouldn't this assist future peace in your point of view?
27. There is only ONE WAY to safe Israel. BUILD, BUILD, BUILD!!!
Wake up Bibi ,   Jerusalem   (07.17.13)
And that's exactly why Abu Mazen makes it his #1 demand. If the problem is demographics the solution is OBVIOUS. Annex all if Judea & Samaria and BUILD, BUILD, BUILD beautiful new homes and open aliya so that millions of our JEWISH brothers and sisters can come HOME. It's time for the redemption and you can make it happen. JUST DO IT.
28. I don't see any tsunami
Shachar ,   Eilat   (07.17.13)
It's taken the EU 46 years to get to this very mild, watered down position. That's a very gentle ankle high wave. In the meantime all sides have worked themselves into a Gordian knot which is not about to be opened.
29.  historic decision - Prove it is not occupied territory
Zev ,   Israel   (07.17.13)
30. Clarification needed from author
Avi ,   USA   (07.17.13)
The author states A senior European ambassador checked over the past few months to see how many Knesset members actually support the "two states" idea – Israel alongside Palestine – as a reasonable solution to the conflict between the two nations. "I found that no more than two lawmakers in the current Knesset support the idea of two states," he said. Two MKs. No more. Is this accurate? Only 2 MKs support a two-state solution? I hope it's a mistake. If not, why should Bibi do something different?
