Shalom ,   Ashdod, IL   (07.26.13)
this or serving in the IDF? Why is he still living there; come to Israel and we will fix the mezuzah on your door
2. oh boo hoo
Haim ,   TA   (07.26.13)
what hypocracy only the last week their was an article in Ynet about a land lord in Jerusalem that would only accept ulta orthadox, for this winger to start crying about defacing someones property with medevil religious symbols is hypocracy .
3. I am Christian, and if this is true, its a shame, she is not
TUTU ,   Jerusalem   (07.26.13)
Christian and this is not the Christian spirit were Jesus said love your neighbors the way you love yourselves..... I apologize on her behalf
4. Is this the price you pay for living in Babylon?
Mark ,   London, UK   (07.26.13)
5. Haim , does a Mezuzah disturbs you ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.26.13)
Not me , i , as a secular , have also one on my doors . So when a believing relative or friend comes he can follow his/her beliefs . And they can even eat at my home . Our kitchen is 100 % kosher with separation between meat and dairy .
6. Something is amiss here
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (07.26.13)
I grew up in Suffolk County on Long Island where North Babylon is located & I find it hard to beleve that this guy is actually "Ultra-Orthodox" as there is no orthodox synagogue within walking distance in the entire Babylon Township. If he had lived in other Suffolk Townships such as Brookhaven,Smithtown or the Hamptons this story would make sense, but something is truly amiss here. Just how can he be Orthodox if he lives in a location with absolutely no orthodox shuls.

zionist forever   (07.26.13)
There is a difference between only accepting ultra orthodox as tenants and knowingly accept an ultra orthodox man but then denying him the right to put up a mezuzah because its a Christian residence. In one case the man was not allowed to rent because he was not religious enough so he was not wanted full stop. In the other nobody said you cannot put up Jewish symbols on the door because its a Christian residence he only found out this once the landlady started hassling him. The only comparison is it involved orthodox Jews.
8. #3: No need to apologize
Israeli 2   (07.26.13)
1) We know that not every Christian is anti-Semitic like that land bitch is. 2) We frankly do not give a damn about the apologies of anyone anymore....especially after the Holocaust. Plenty apologies then too. 3) We prefer you knock some real sense into that woman than apologize.
9. is this news .... NO!
Reuven ,   Netanya   (07.26.13)
10. Scam artist
Dave ,   New York USA   (07.26.13)
I know this guy and he's a scam artist, and very good at that. Disappointed that the reporter did not do a very good job at vetting the story.
11. Who's doorpost did he put the mezuzuh
Benjy   (07.26.13)
on? If it is her property then I feel she has the right to ask him to take it down and not knock holes ih her doorframe. Apart from that he should have asked before renting if nit was OK, because seems its not an apartment where Jews live. Also if it was so precious, and was outside his apt...then do what many do outside of Israel and place it just inside the door....That is what my son did when he rented an apt. And yes, you can always come and live in Israel...no one will tell you to take it down.
12. Even more amiss, his belief "in" his Mezuzah
Yosi ,   Gilo-Jerusalem   (07.26.13)
is forbidden. The Mezuzah is not a protector, only G-d is. If the wording is as quoted, "proctects", sounds like avoda zera. All that being said, he should also sue for emotional damage/distress and willfull destruction of his property. Once he rents, that becomes his domain and she has no right, legally or otherwise to tamper with is domain/property. Ultimately he can have her arrested for theft. Bottom line, nobody messes with my Mezuzah.
13. How many signs you need to get...
Mother of a soldier ,   Jerusalem   (07.26.13)
... to realize that jews belong in Eretz Israel!
14. Try a few Israeli landlords for size
Tenant in hell ,   tel aviv   (07.26.13)
Having dealt with a dozen or more Israeli landlords, I wouldn't inflict them on anyone. If you can't afford 3/4 of your earnings, you get a dingy, damp-filled, filthy hole for which you must give post-dated checks, plus 5 guarantors, plus IOUs from the post office. You will fight for your deposit back with most landlords. You will NEVER get a single thing - inside or out, fixed. You will have 4-5 check-up visits a month, threats to treble the rent every year, and YNet about a year ago - in the Hebrew section - printed some demands landlords are making which warrant a Court of Human Rights complaint! Nah, for really anti-Semitic landlords, you don't get better than here.
15. If someone put a cross on their door in my building...
mypov ,   petach tikva   (07.26.13)
If someone put a cross on their door in my building here in Petach Tikva, it would be torn down within one day, and all of the residents would be rioting..."This is a Jewish city!" If want to have a building without Xtian symbols, then she can have a building without Jewish ones. Why should the rules be different when we are the victim?
16. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.26.13)
Your words are irrelevant and meaningless. I wouldn't accept an apology from a German for the acts of the Nazis, and you are not in a position to apologize for anyone in a way that resonates. The landlady needs to be the one to apologize. I wish Mr. Sachs all the best in his pursuit of justice. Evicting someone on the basis of their religion, race, gender or ethnicity is a violation of United States law.
17. 3 Tutu - When did u become pope & author of New Testament?
Former Christian ,   Israel   (07.26.13)
She is Christian. This is law in most of the U.S. Apartment complexes and the like set their own rules, which the law then upholds. Outside of ghetto-like concentrated Jewish communities, in other words in practically ALL of the US, putting up a mezuzah on the front doorpost is NOT permitted or tolerated. It is you who, hopefully, is rising above -- and out -- of Christianity.
18. he should leave
anton ,   istanbul   (07.26.13)
if he doesnt like it
19. She can counter sue
Raptor   (07.26.13)
him for causing damage to the property.
20. to number 3- not all Christians are
Barney ,   USA   (07.26.13)
anti-semetic. This is nonsense. Also, he will win the lawsuit as Sarah B says, this is against the law in the US. My son's landlord wanted him to remove one in San Francisco. When push came to shove, she had to allow it. A mezuzah is a small object. It is not like the guy is defacing the property.
21. 16 . You are not in a position to accept
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.26.13)
or not an apology . She did NOT evict him on racist base , but damage on property .
22. Mezuzah
JeanH ,   USA   (07.26.13)
It is a shame that a nation that says it has religious freedom dose this. When i lived in Martinsburg, WV I was told I could not put my Mezuzah on my door. I was a great tenant, paid rent on time, and obeyed his rules. Yet my neighbors could put up xmas decos and whatever...but not me. I bought my own home and there are Mezuzahs on my doors!
23. @2..really you do not know
JeanH ,   USA   (07.26.13)
the real history of the Mezuzah... the were around many years before the Middle Ages... in fact you can go find some ancient ones still in use on Israeli-Arab doors...hummm strange.. maybe they are really Israelis who changed to Islam to avoid paying the tax?!
24. Rental Contract May Stipulate No Signs On Exterior Of Door
World Citizen ,   the world   (07.26.13)
This goes for decorations too. The other thing is unless he has a verified actual recording of her saying what he said she said, he has nothing that will hold water in a court of law. Let him move to a Jewish owned apartment. Maybe they will let him post his object. I'll bet they won't even rent to Christians or let anyone nail crosses on the door.
25. @15
JeanH ,   USA   (07.26.13)
Israel is a JEWISH nation... the USA is NOT a Xtian nation it is a free nation...supposedly. There is a difference in policies here. Israel is a declared Jewish; USA accepts all religions...
26. 2 - Why are you mean spirited-not Jewish way!
Dina ,   USA   (07.26.13)
27. World Citizen #24 - Law
Harry ,   NY, USA   (07.26.13)
In NY, such a ban on mezzuzot would violate laws against religious discrimination. A condo was recently fined $10,000 by the NY Attorney General for enacting a ban on mezzuzot on doorways. The only viable rationale for a ban is religious discrimination, especially when coupled with words that this is a "Christian home". If you don't want non-Christians living in your property, don't rent it out. If you rent it out, live by the laws of the land. Hope she is forced to make the same $10,000 fine to the government and a settlement to the man.
28. Pinheads @ 16, 20, 27 ,...
split ,   US   (07.27.13)
I'm woodoo adherent, a bloody chicken head on the door and sprincled blood on my doorstep is my sign of luck and prosperity, my Indian neighbor's is raven's wing, Russian babushka's a rabbit's leg, a hunter's a racoon's tail - Not so long ago a friend of mine was told to remove a hummingbird feeder from balcony of his condo. There're rules and regulations on your contract and no exceptions. Keep it inside or nail to your forhead if you think it works ,...
29. @27 Harry What You Say May Be True BUT....
World Citizen ,   the world   (07.27.13)
If it was in his contract that he would not post any decorations or objects of any kind on the door then he was in violation of the contract. That would not be religious discrimination as it applies to everyone.
30. Put $20 inside the mezuza. The landlady will love you.
