2. a mishmash of lies and confabulations
CJK   (07.20.13)
the various parties are doing their best to put out versions of this alleged agreement that are in contradiction and are partially true. what seems to be the case is that some of the parties will meet next week to start some sort of negotiation on an interim state for the arab palestinians. it is probable that what has been allegedly agreed upon is close to what lieberman had proposed in the past.
3. Be the gutsy little state we were meant to be!
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.20.13)
Before the abominations of Oslo and appeasement, Israel was respected by friends and foes alike, as a gutsy little state. We were the state of the Six Days War and Entebbe. Not the state of kissing boots and begging. Israel must return to our proud ways. Israel must again become the gutsy little state we were meant to be. We must proudly claim ALL our land and ALL our rights NOW!
4. Is Netanyahu a genius?
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (07.21.13)
No, Netanyahu is not a genius, quite the opposite. Abbas and PLO represent a minor percentage of the Arabs. Netanyahu will make major real concessions to reach an agreement which will then be rejected by a clear majority of the Arabs. After the Arabs collect the concessions and Israel holds a worthless piece of paper, the war will continue.
5. 4 israel israeli
CJK   (07.21.13)
netanyahu is smarter than most give him credit for. the so-called concessions are basically meaningless in the long term. all that matters is what the alleged negotiations are about and how they will end. it is our great misfortune that the present occupant of the wh needs to be appeased and cuddled. doing so is an art in itself. keep in mind that he has never met a terrorist or a jew hater that he does not like, including helen thomas.
6. This is what we were waiting for Bennett for?
Miracle Dog ,   Israel   (07.21.13)
As we watch Bibi turned into the new Livni / Olmert, ready to give up large parts of Israel to hostile forces against the wishes of the people, even Bennett is notably low-key here. Bennett should realize that if he sticks to his pre-election manifesto, there's a massive upsurge in public support coming his way. I don't believe you have to be a right-wing nutter to see that these concessions have never gotten Israel anywhere, and will continue to erode the country, bit by bit.
7. YES #3 the question is
LARRY ,   US ARMY RETIRED   (07.21.13)
would you rather be loved or respected the answer is the world will not love the Jews.BUT will sure as hell respect there army and guts.
8. John Kerry and Obama
PAPO ,   Tel Aviv   (07.21.13)
Do not believe in the current US Government Period they interest is not for the good of Israel.
9. Time to get rid of Netanyahu
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.21.13)
We have had so many leftists as Prime Minister and it has made every situation worse. Why don't we get somebody from the right, just once?
10. Abbas(powerless)=Fatah, Hamas(powerful) not involved
noel nesor ,   Israel   (07.21.13)
What are they all talking about? This is all total nonsense. The Pals are not partners for peace as clearly stated by Hamas. Did JK even consult with the ultra violent Hamas terrorists leadership? Has he even been to Gaza? He meets Abbas in Amman, Jordan - what a farce! 'The king is in the altogether' led by Walter Mittey aka John Kerry alias Barack Hussain Obama.
11. I trust Bennett but NOT Netanyahu.
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.21.13)
Unfortunately PM will, give and give and get nothing in return - again exect terror from Palestinians and those prisoners he releases. Meanwhile the Centrifuges spin !
12. One Step Fwd, 3 Steps Backwards
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (07.21.13)
I am an ardent Zionist and know 2 states is the lesser of evils. I also know that the Israeli govt has repeatedely demanded no preconditions for talks with Abbas. The mks are not the P.M.and have their oinions, just as John McCain and Chreles Schumer havfe theirs. Isrel must talk..and the Pales side must bge willing to compromise..no right of return, borders, E Jerusalem not divided in half, not to pssess the Mount or place it under UN control, etc. Hamas has aloready said no and Hez w9nt budge. The problem may be unsolveable..true, but the area can be quiet if both sides compromise. This is akin to WW1, with many influences beyond the borders. Zionism vs Arab caliphate Egypt/Syria, Iran, etc. And assuming 2 states are agreed, what about Iran, Hez, Egypt's cold peace? With smaller borders and easy Jewish targets for missiles...will Israel come out ahead, or take 3 steps backwards? Who will enforce the borders? And if Abbas says 4m Muslims must be allowed to return to Israel, then what? And do the Pales realy want peace with the Jews? Will the EU lift their siege? Will it open up links now closed ? Will Abbas demand the area Judenrein? Okay, so they will talk so what? BFD.
13. Is Natanyahu a genius?
(07.21.13)
NO!!!! NO!!!! NO!!!! Natanyahu is COWARD & Useless. This coward PM must resign now !!!! Bennett & other party should resign from Government, make new election. For settlement constructions freeze, prisoners release, must be decided by the Israeli public. Make vote now !!!!!
14. #4 Holding a worthless piece of paper sounds familiar
Miracle Dog ,   Israel   (07.21.13)
Hmm... Ah yes, Oslo! What exactly did Israel get out of that apart from the first step in being carved into even smaller pieces? The PA didn't keep to their side of the story and should have been abolished years ago.
15. "Brothers" Bennett and Ariel.....
Michael ,   Haifa   (07.21.13)
......know that Sister Shelli, and maybe even Sister Zahava, can make them redundant
16. Shale oil swap Area C
Zechariah   (07.21.13)
Israel could have part of area C for Palestinians getting Shale oil areas near the amistance lines of 1949 in Jordanian Palestian Confederation which could be loose focused on security and calm .
17. 6 miracle dog
CJK   (07.21.13)
netanyahu has not given away anything. the so-called concessions, if there are any, are meaningless in the long term. the meetings that will take place is about pre-negotiations. it is totally unfair to compare netanyahu to the incompetent crook olmert. you are forgetting what it was like when olmert was pm.
18. Prisoner release
Aaron ,   Toronto,Canada   (07.21.13)
If they want prisoners released before negotiations put a leg bracelet with a chip if bracelet is taken off or disturbed it blows the leg off.Install a gps chip to follow them wherever they go and only remove it after five years of quiet.
19. RIGHT ON 3 & 6!!
Dina ,   USA   (07.21.13)
20. ...and what gestures are the arabs making?
steve ,   netanya,israel   (07.21.13)
Its all very nice to insist that Israel release murderers as a 'goodwill gesture',but what exactly are the arabs doing as a goodwill gesture?
21. America no longer exists
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.21.13)
They are in a rapid cycle of decline. For now we have to play their game. Soon they will become insignificant. So too the rest of the world..
22. # 1 - "double talk guide"
yosef, phd ,   usa -israel   (07.21.13)
Avi Israeli - Yishar Koach ! Yours is a rare, truly intelligent and realistic article on the convoluted M.E. situation. The cowardly Israeli government(s) should read it, more than once: Right on. Shalom al Israel.
23. 21 Dror
CJK   (07.21.13)
we have to hang tough for as long as obama is president.
24. this is the only thing the arabs understand
Scott ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (07.21.13)
Arabs see concessions as a sign of weakness. The only way they will accept the fact we are staying is if we continue to build - in ALL parts of Israel.
25. Bibi better know what he is doing..
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.21.13)
I think Bibi knows the coalition will break apart and the talks will not succeed, but the show must go on. Kerry needs to save face and Obama needs as many distractions as possible to cover for the abysmal state of his presidency. We are nearing a crescendo. Now is the calm before the storm. Obama will openly betray us. Wait and see.
26. 25 Dror,
CJK   (07.21.13)
yes, he will.
27. 3 & 25 are both right.
tiki ,   belgium   (07.21.13)
The first step to become the 'gutsy little country again is telling the Europeans that they are not acceptable in any negotiations anymore. They've opened their cards and are out of the game. That Obama will openly betray Israel at the end of his term for not giving him what he needs: a legacy, is a no brainer. He will drop Israel as a hot potatoe in favour of his 'real friends is another one. Obama doesn't have any other friends but other 'Obama's and his obligations are only to the Jeremiah Wright's & Hussein's of this world.
28. Delusional Benett
Gilda Cohen ,   Rome   (07.21.13)
This guy seems to be delusional. It's not Europe that depends on Israel. It's Israel who desperately needs European funds and cooperation for academics and institutions. Europe should not only boycott all cooperation but also condition relations with Israel depending on its participation on peace talks.
29. 28 Gilda
Cipora Julianna Kohn   (07.21.13)
you are very mistaken. israel does not depend on europe as much as you think. israel is looking for other partnerships in china and other countries. furthermore, boycotting israel is illegal. so has ruled the French cours de cassation. nor is israel without recourse. israel can withdraw all monies from european banks, she can reduce imports from europe, she can reduce the size of european embassies in israel, tax or outlaw ngo's. germany has already stated that it will not partake of any boycott of israel. so, two major european powers, france and germany will not boycott israel. lastly, and most importantly, israel will not commit national suicide because the europeans so desire.
30. Not only Bennet is delusional
Reuven ,   Netanya   (07.21.13)
All who believe that getting peace without giving anything back is delusional. We did nothing else than take take take since 1967. I strongly believe that the palestinians can be a model for the arab world, we need to help them in creating a state that has a strong economy, this will enable them to provide means for their families and as a result terror will be wiped out.
