61. #3 Sarah, Respect is earned, not given.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.31.13)
Tell this to Haredim and let's see some action on their part. The first thing they could do, easily, is to respect the laws of the country in which they live. Laws are written and well interpreted. It is easy to understand that a woman is equal to every male citizen in Israel, by law.
62. Dror, you sit in the back.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.31.13)
With primitive views like yours you should walk rather than joining a random community of Israelis on a bus. You wrote you are reading many publications from America, but are you reading anything meaningful in Israel? Egged has a pamphlet, read it!
63. Forgot my name in # 53
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.31.13)
64. Haredim pay for private bus svce if they dont like Public 1
(07.31.13)
When will such people who physically and criminally threaten others should be arrested and jailed if guilty. Egged is not a Haredi bus service iit is a public service for all who want to use it Lawbreakers and anybody who breaks the law or causes civil disorder or criminal damage should be arrested. Any person who thinks they are exempt from national service should be dealt with . .Likewise there should be a shabbat service for those who need it.
65. @45 You lie! I believe her version
(07.31.13)
the young Orthodox woman was just interviewed on Israeli Television. Her version completely contradicts what you wrote here. Why bother with the lie, did you think she wouldn't be interviewed?
66. To #3
Gene   (07.31.13)
Why Haredim demand respect from others if they don't show respect for non-Haredim? The bus is a not shul, it is mean of the PUBLIC transportation where EVERYBODY should be respected. Asking woman to move because of her gender is disrepectful to her (try to get it) .
67. #65
Lazerbenabba ,   London, Englandl   (07.31.13)
Where is the contradiction? Did she get up and go to the rear of the bus or not. The point is if you are not too bigoted to accept it is that why should a woman orthodox or otherwise move merely because an Haredi requests/insists. It is contrary to good manners and general social behaviour. This would be acceptable in Saudi where a woman is a chattel with virtually no rights but I mistakenly thought Israel permitted and even encouraged sex equality.
68. #3 is Fake Sarah B
Eric ,   Toronto   (08.01.13)
The Fake Sarah B has struck again. But those of us who know how Sarah B thinks have not fallen for that!
69. Haredit crazies
jn ,   Israel   (08.01.13)
These crazy haredim get nervous about everything. Now that the government is trying to put them in their place they wil put up a fight about anything. The public must be aware of this when they come near a haredi 'kosher' bus or find themselves in a haredi neighborhood.
70. jn , read my # 5
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.01.13)
And this is a law , everywhere
71. Unfit to be citizens
Dan   (08.01.13)
Haredim deny the rights of everyone but themselves. They are not fit to be citizens of Israel. Either their culture must be rehabilitated, with or without their cooperation, or they can find a country that will let them live in their little religious fascist fantasy.
72. Kosher? Can you eat a bus?
ruth ,   london england   (08.01.13)
73. 33.
Birdi ,   Israel   (08.01.13)
Exactly.
74. Beit Shemesh Bus
Will ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.04.13)
When will people finally stand up and end the Haredi persecution? Who will be brave enough to finally stop them?
75. Only doing it because they can
Just a woman ,   tel aviv   (08.13.13)
3 months ago I was sitting at a bus stop in Tel Aviv and to my utter amazement, a haredi (I believe Satmar) came and sat next to me and greeted me in American accent. Knowing the usual spitting, avoidance, etc I was a bit taken aback. He kept smiling and making just meaningless chit chat; he'd just arrived, etc. I frankly tried to avoid answering knowing this was most unusual. He was just being pleasant, nothing more. What did this mean, ladies & gentlemen? It meant this happens in America, even among the ultra Orthodox! He wasn't being fresh, he wasn't thinking bad thoughts, he just felt a stranger and was being pleasantly friendly and clearly hadn't encountered such extremes in New York. So why is it happening here? Because laws or no laws, there is no meaningful action being taken. Not enough police, not enough prisons to put these people away. Six months should be the starting sentence, but the judges don't touch them because it then becomes about pity because "they have families to support". The spread of this fanatical, totally illogical and utterly repugnant behavior is becoming more and more pervasive. It makes me glad to be closer to an end than to be a younger generation that's going to be battling for their freedom against the ever-increasing power of fundamentalism.
