1. Absolutely!
Talyah ,   Israel   (08.05.13)
I agree with the author 1000%. Especially since we already have the death penalty on the law books. If the state got rid of those worthless inhuman cesspool swimmers who slaughtered the Fogel family for example, it may deter other virgin-seekers to attempt the same. Who's gever enough to take up the cause in the Knesset?
2. In that case....
Mike   (08.05.13)
I trust that Israel will also execute Israeli terrorists who murdered innocent defenseless civilians
3. Some issues
Dave ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (08.05.13)
First of all Israel does kill Palestinians who planned or committed acts of terror. Second, the Palestinians who are captured by Israel and who are NOT citizens of Israel I don't believe can be legally executed. As for death penalty being part of Israeli law for Israeli citizens, I think it is dangerous although the discussion is valid. Eichmann was a very unique case.
4. under Israeli law there is a death penalty
zionist forever   (08.05.13)
The death penalty is already on the statute books but sadly its never been used to execute anybody but Eichman. With the death penalty there will be no more kidnapping of soldiers because the only reason the terrorists take the risks of trying to kidnap soldiers is to trade them for their terrorist buddies. If the terrorists are executed its unlikely that they will want to take the risk of kidnaping people because there is no big prize at the end. It will also mean that if we do have to release killers for political reasons there will be no killers killing again. Men like those who carried out the Itmar massacre cutting the throats of adults and children whilst they slept in their beds and showed no remorse. Time our politicians and judges from both the left and right showed a little bit of backbone and introduce legislation that executes killers and judges must have the courage to impose the death penalty rather than jail terms because they will eventually be released if another soldier is kidnapped or the government caves in and releases terrorists in exchange for the palestinians agreeing to hold negotiations on the idea of creating a palestinians state.
5. Agree..
Beary White ,   Norway   (08.05.13)
Every terrorist who was / is taken spot on in murdering, or captured with solid evidence against him should be executed. Then Obama will lose his option and the world would be a better place.
6. Same can be done to Jews in Muslim States
Stefan   (08.05.13)
If those Arabs applied same measures only then will Israel/Jews understand it works both ways.
7. death penalty for terrorists
David ,   Miami US   (08.05.13)
This is long overdue. I am in agreement. It should become law and standard operating procedure in the country. In essence Israel already has the death penalty which occurs in targeted killings of terrorists whether it happens inside or outside the country especially if the targets have, are in the process, or are planing a terrorist act.
8. thou shalt not kill?
jonny ,   norway   (08.05.13)
who ever wrote this article must not be Jewish . ....
9. Why not?
Immanuel Kant ,   Global citizen   (08.05.13)
The article is a great example for human error. And for the very same reason society can't afford to impose an irreversible punishment. Besides, every (!) crime statistics in every country in the world shows that capital punishment has ZERO positive effect on crime rates. Fact.
10. Death penalty
Kushelevitch ,   Bet Yehoshua   (08.05.13)
Not having the death penalty for other than Nazis is the only thing that will differentiate between us and the neighborhood. We do not need to go the their level of savagery
11. It is a good idea and also...
Stan Marsh ,   South Park/USA   (08.05.13)
The new law should be retrospective so that prisoners already in prison should also be strung up.
12. OMG really ... Gideon please move to Iran or Korea
Reuven ,   Netanya   (08.05.13)
If this is really your conviction than do us all a favor and go to live in Iran. The death penalty does not belong in a democratic nation. You fail to understand that the release of these prisoners is the result of A: wrong policies of our governments in the past and present B: religious extremism As for A, this can be solved by elections, new laws, new policies, etc ... As for B, if you think that is the way that you will eradicate extremism than you are very wrong
13. I don't agree with this....
Mark ,   London, UK   (08.05.13)
It's the sort of thing that goes on in very repugnant regimes: Iran, Egypt, Syria, Saudi, North Korea etc. It is not acceptable to allow terrorists to set the agenda. An "iron fist" does not include judicial murder.
14. Good thoughts but it won't happen. Not with the current
Gabor ,   Budapest, Hungary   (08.05.13)
incompetent and corrupt leadership.
15. A 100% money back guarentee...
Gideon Reader   (08.05.13)
Prevents recidivism in each and every situation. Never a repeat offense and much MUCH cheaper than housing, feeding, caring for and paying the skyrocketing costs for long term incarceration. Agreed there will be many cases where murderers and terrorists will not get the degrees they were studying for, but...what the hey? Life is tough. Tougher when a .22LR hollowpoint is sped into your head.
16. "the international community"
Devorah   (08.05.13)
Is Israel not a sovereign self-determining country? Then who gives a damn what the international community would or would not accept regarding capital punishment in Israel. This warped, malignant, ghetto line of thinking is totally out of control starting at the top. And all you do is exacerbate it, Gideon Friedman, by trying to sell us on the idea that the world would accept it. What other country would even consider the world's opinion when it comes to imposing the death penalty? I can tell you. NONE!
17. not in favor of "affirmative action" death penalty
david ,   new york   (08.05.13)
in the last paragraph, he talks about death penalty for "jewish terorists". well, i dont agree. this will become a political thing. israel will feel hard pressed to label jews as terrorists in order to get jews executed too. the death penalty should not apply to citizens. i dont want israel's corrupt judiciary executing jews.
18. 100 % right !
(08.05.13)
19. Yes it will save Jewish lives - execute terrrorist murderers
Moshe ,   Usa   (08.06.13)
20. @8
Waltet ,   Germany   (08.06.13)
You are right. The translation "You shall not murder" is much nearer to the original. It really means "You shall only kill someone if it allowed by the law" So killing gentiles is completely acceptable.
21. What about the criminal IDF that
James   (08.05.13)
Executed capture, bound & unarmed Egyptian POWs.
22. Why?
Walter ,   Gernany   (08.06.13)
Why should Israel start to sentence IDF soldiers to death who were forced by the gouvernment to go to Palestine (formerly known as West Bank)? Seems unfair to me.
23. 100% agree - death penalty for terrorists
daniela   (08.06.13)
24. NO. ISRAEL DOES NOT COPY OTHER COUNTRIES
adi ,   Zurich   (08.06.13)
25. For #20 WALTER
Austin ,   Canada   (08.06.13)
It seems poor man, that you've never got over the fact that Germany lost the War and the Jews have survived and prospered. Your lies and mis-statements are not original, you can surely do better. In fact, the besT thing you could do would be to hold your head under water for 10 minutes. It would do us all a big favour.
26. @8: If You Could See . . .
emanon ,   USA   (08.06.13)
If you could see some of the things I would give anything to unsee, you'd agree. Through a job I no longer have, I've seen some of the not so nice things one human being has done to another, and we are not even talking terrorism, just human n human violence. It must be decided on a case by case basis, by yes, I could, and I believe I would if I could, push the button to do away with some of the people who caused what I have seen. I was not there t the Fogel house, but yes, the ones that caused that suffering to the Fogel Family would be included in that count.
27. #8 it says you shall not commit murder.
Israeli ,   Haifa   (08.06.13)
In other words, we would not be able to kill to eat. #20, You speak like a fool. No where is there any implication the death penalty is for Gentiles only. You are provoking, you are lying and slandering Jews, and speak like a blood libaler. Why is it illegal for Jews to defend themselves against those who murder them?
28. and the most efficiant solution is..
myname ,   mycountry   (08.06.13)
.. to outsource their imprisonment to South Sudanese prisons, which are both cheaper and effective. The rate of terrorism will drop to zero as soon as their allow to write their letters from there, and if putting a condition of employing former infiltrators, the two hares will be hit with one shot, while humanistic types would be able at last to sleep well at night, with their subconsciousness still intact
29. Get on with it...About time...
Natalie Durson ,   LA US   (08.06.13)
A referendum would be good..Most Israelis would be all for the death penalty for murderous terrorists.....DO IT NOW.......
30. Choose language wisely
Michael ,   Melbourne, Australia   (08.06.13)
An easier issue would be to stop calling them Palestinian prisoners. They ARE NOT prisoners because they are Palestinians. They ARE prisoners because they are bad guys, thieves, murderers, terrorists and so on. Any reference to their ethnicity is entirely irrelevant. All good press should refer to them without reference to ethnicity.
