31. Death pennalty
Quebec observer ,   Montreal, Canada   (08.06.13)
The Israelis are no better or not worse than other people. Don't continue to be the fools of this world. DEATH PENALTY FOR CONVICTED EXTREME MURDERERS.
32. No Silver Bullet
RickD ,   USA   (08.06.13)
I have no doubt that terrorists deserve the death penalty. However, in the US criminals given the death penalty are often on death row for ten or fifteen years. The appeals process takes a long time and costs millions of dollars, both to the state and to the defendant. If terrorists are in Israeli prison on death row for ten years will that make their terrorist buddies more likely or less likely to attempt to get them out of prison? The death penalty will be no panacea in Israel.
33. Wise not to make martyrs, let them get rot in prison.

Do you know how many people are executed in Hunstville, TX alone? Do you consider the USA to be undemocratic too? Japan executes people, so is India. Are those countries similar to North Korea? From economical standpoint, I would prefer to terminate the terrorists by targeted killings as opposed to death penalty. Less time and money for appeals, etc...From legal standpoint the death penalty would be better. But the waiting time and appeal process should be similar to the old USSR.

I thought that countries like USA, Japan, India, which have death penalty are democratic. Are they not? And if not, why?
36. Yes Stefan, but Jews have never ever
The sad truth   (08.06.13)
terrorized anyone in Arab states, let alone, kill Arabs. Sadly,it was always the other way round. So,Stefan, it always worked one way, that is, Arabs terrorizing and killing Jews.
37. #13 Mark in London
Israeli ,   Haifa   (08.06.13)
There are many states in the US that have the death penalty. Does this make them a "repugnant regime"?
38. Don't stop just with "terrorism".

39. #3 dave - an issue
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.06.13)
Since when is it illegal to put someone to death for heinous crimes just because he/she is not a citizen of the country? If that were the case, murderers who move to another country would have carte-blanche to kill.
40. I don't know what bible jonny is reading.
Bartley Kulp ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.06.13)
Nowhwere in the bible does it say thou shalt not kill. Not even in Hebrew.
41. Can we start with Yigal Amier and Yaakov Teitel?
Haim ,   TA   (08.06.13)
something low key in Kikar Rabin maybe ?
42. To #2, Dave from Sao Paulo
IA ,   LA, CA, USA   (08.06.13)
Actually, Israel does not kill Palestinians who planned or committed acts of terror. They sit in our jails in great conditions until they are released. Also, they should be able to execute terrorists in these cases.
43. death penalty
Leah ,   Jerusalem   (08.06.13)
I'm so pleased to see this topic raised. I totally agree.
44. Would you apply this policy when idf murders civilians?
Ivan ,   Haifa   (08.06.13)
45. Death penalty is not a deterent for terrorists
David ,   Ramat Gan   (08.06.13)
In fact studies show that the death penalty is not a deterent for would be terrorists and in fact it makes martyrs of them in the eyes of those who support their actions and further encourages others. So this kind of Village Mob mentality is just that.

May I quote Rabbi Shapiro, "The King's Torah": "It is permissible to kill the Righteous among Nations even if they are not responsible for the threatening situation... If we kill a Gentile who has sinned or has violated one of the seven commandments - because we care about the commandments - there is nothing wrong with the murder." "..."because their presence assists murder, and there is reason to harm children if it is clear that they will grow up to harm us ... it is permissible to harm the children of a leader in order to stop him from acting evilly ... we have seen in the Halakha that even babies of gentiles who do not violate the seven Noahide laws, there is cause to kill them because of the future threat that will be caused if they are raised to be wicked people like their parents." He says nothing about eating and I'm quite sure that human flesh is not kosher. Rabbi Shapiro gets paid by the State of Israel so you can be sure that this is the state's opinion. Prominent rabbis (e.g. Ginzburg, Yosef) have recommended Shapiro's book "The King's Torah" to their students and followers. Fortunately the majority of the Jews live in civilized countries like EU and US and don't care about some Bronze Age myths. But Israel fits perfect to the Middle East.
47. to #8 That is not what the Bible says
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (08.06.13)
No, the 10 Commandments in the original Hebrew does not say Lo laharog, Do not kill. It says Lo tirtsach, Do not murder. There is a big difference between kill and murder. The Bible also allows for the death penalty. The Fort Hood shooter will probably get the death penalty, although it will not be carried out until all of his appeals are exhausted whcih will take a long time. They also executed Timothy McVeigh who bombed the Oklahoma Federal Building. Those Americans are not friars. They know what to do with blood thirsty murderers.
48. Nr.8. You err !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (08.06.13)
" You shall not Murder " !. That is the Groundtext. To Murder and to Kill is not the same thing before God... AND, Those who Murder shall according to the Law of God be put to death. Arn.Sweden.
49. To Mark in London
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (08.06.13)
There is a big difference between an execution in Iran or N. Korea after a quicky trial in a kangaroo court where the outcome is predetermined and a trial in a court system in a country with real due process where the accused is innocent until proven guilty and then given multiple appeals. Also, a country like China executes people for petty crimes that we would never consider executing for. The worst murderers need to be done away with. They have no right to live among civilized people.
50. I think there is room for a carefully used death penalty
Shachar ,   Eilat   (08.06.13)
I think all our leaders lack the backbone to make tough decisions. It is worth remembering that spending millions of shekels to keep someone in jail also costs many innocent lives. It is money that could be used in the health system, road safety etc. But you cannot single out Palestinians or "terror" for the death penalty. Today the death penalty exists only for crimes against humanity. I would widen that phrase to include "inhumane crimes". This would include suicide bombings against civilians but not attacks on soldiers. Callous murderers like the bouncer who killed an entire family after he was sacked would also face the death penalty.
51. Nr 45. So - ? -Shall Murderers -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (08.06.13)
- Stay alive, for the none Pleasurie of Murders ?. Imbecille !. Arn.Sweden.,
52. Execute terrorists within 48 hours of capture.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.06.13)
There is no reason to keep "Palestinian" terrorists alive to murder again and inspire more murderers. Catch them. Interrogate them thoroughly to extract needed information. Execute them within 48 hours of capture.
53. #50 Shachar: Yes, but would you execite Jews too?
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (08.06.13)
I agree that terrorism should carry the death penalty but so should the murder of children and other brutal and "inhuman" atrocities like rape, which is murder but the victim lives. My question is will the State of Israel execute a Jewish child killer like Eli Pimshetin, Zvi Gur or the aberration of a human being that beat up Holocaust Survivor, Ita Vogel? Israel is a democracy, a point made over and over my our Prime Minister but if you were to only execute Arabs, well that would put the last nail in the coffin of Israel's claim to be a democratic county. The better solution would be to legislate minimum sentences so that people who kill, even in road accidents don't just get a slap on the hand becuase they have the "right" lawyer! Again, the the question is will the Government even do this small thing to protect its people?
54. #46 walter
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.06.13)
As horrid as the rabbi’s words, they are not the State of Israel's opinion even though it pays him. It pays a great many people with different views, many of them ridiculous. How many politicians are paid by a country, but have totally different views on a subject? This is the result of democracy. Extreme conclusions such as yours are everywhere. The facts are not. Get real.
55. To No. 50
Bertram ,   London, UK   (08.06.13)
I note you include suicide bombers. Yes, the death penalty is certainly effective for them. Very much a deterrent.
56. Ynet ads of naked bodies & lips must end.
Dina ,   USA   (08.06.13)
Insult to women and is common decency to stop at once!
57. #44 Ivan, why don't you go back to where you came from?
Jake   (08.06.13)
Who killed more people in the 20th century than Mother Russia?
58. To No. 52
Bertram ,   London, UK   (08.07.13)
So, Chaim, killing terrorists without even a trial - yes? I cannot believe that you are such a self-hating Jew that you would risk the lives of Israelis everywhere as a consequence of your suggested policy of state murder?
59. Jewish Morality demands the death penalty for murderers
RJUSA ,   USA   (08.07.13)
The death penalty for murderers is a moral law in all 5 books of the Torah. Because human beings are created in G-d's image, those who commit murder must be put to death. Israel, as the Jewish state, should have Jewish morality. The death penalty for murderers is Jewish morality.
60. #46 Walter, Germany

Israel is not perfect, yet it's still one of the more liberal and tolerant places in the world - specifically in the Middle East, but even when compared to many countries in Europe, where homophobia and xenophobia have reached horrid proportions. Every country has its bad apples, but the question is - how many people actually follow them? I guess I'm an ignorant Israeli because I've never head of that rabbi you mentioned. Even if what you quoted is accurate (and somehow I doubt that), then hardly anyone in Israel follows this crap. Similarly, I can bring up quotes of your country's Neo-Nazi activists and far-right politicians and generalize and say that Germany to this day remains a cesspool of bigots, antisemites and racists, and nothing has changed in the last 70 years. But I don't do that, because that would be unfair to the vast majority of decent Germans today. And you should similarly refrain from such ignorant comments about Israel.
