1. IDF should have finished
ASTRONAUT ,   SC, USA   (08.07.13)
this job a decade ago. Just like the USA's been pussyfooting around in Afghanistan, et. al., for over a decade since 9/11 – instead of unleashing the Wrath Of G-d onto these perps; now the Western World cowers, losing soldiers, losing morale.
2. Keep Out!
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (08.07.13)
I usually emphatically support the IDF, but in this case the even admitted to crossing the border. They shouldn't have been there and should respect the border if they expect others to respect it in their regard.
3. We have to respect their territory
(08.07.13)
I wish the boys a speedy recovery, and I hate to say it but it's the commander's fault. I'm sure if a few Lebanese soldiers crossed into our territory the same would have happened.
4. #2
Eli ,   Israel   (08.07.13)
How can you expect Israel to respect the northern border when Hizbullah continually violates Israeli sovereignty (2 drones recently)? Moreover, Hizbullah is with great zeal rebuilding its missile and rocket stockpiles and threatening Israel. If violating the northern border keeps Israeli's safe, then that is what the IDF must do. You must keep in mind that Hizbullah would violate Israeli sovereignty at the earliest chance it would get if the IDF was not so strong.... get your head out of your....
5. My thoughts are with our hero soldiers
aL   (08.07.13)
may they have a very speedy recovery. COS Gantz..protect our soldiers..enable them to do the work they must do. Equip them properly and ensure they are well fed and properly led.

Amichai ,   Huntsville, AL   (08.07.13)
It has nothing to do with my head being anywhere. It has to do with respecting that Lebanon has borders. Hezballah is the enemy & they have a stranglehold on Lebanon. There are only 2 ways that Israel should be going into Lebanon to engage Hezballah - at the request of the Lebanese government or in a declaration of war. It's not that I'm opposed to them doing either, but that's the legality of the situation. If Israel pushes too far, then it'll be fighting Hezballah AND the Lebanese Army. Learn something about diplomacy and international relations before you shoot your mouth off.
7. #2 - the reason for 2006 war was because Hiz DIDNT respect
William ,   Israel   (08.07.13)
the Israeli border, and they still do not. The reason for Israeli activities is to look for such border bombs, tunnels, etc that will be used by this illegal terrorist group against the Jewish State. It's not just a moral imperative but Israel is legally justified in finding and eliminating such threats, even from across the border, because the Lebanese will not and the UNIFIL is unwilling.

Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (08.07.13)
How do you expect Haliburton and people in our government to make any money if we fight wars like we want to win? Afghanistan, Vietnam, it's all money in somones pocket. Not in my pocket but then that isn't how I want to earn money. I'm with you, I want to get in and out fast.
9. Got lost again ? ;) ,...
split ,   US   (08.07.13)
10. Not necessarily on Lebanese soil
Naftush ,   Israel   (08.07.13)
Some parts of the border fence are set well within Israel territory precisely in order to allow our forces to cross it when necessary.
11. Only a Professional Hasbarist Could
Doug ,   Rochester, USA   (08.07.13)
Call the violation of Lebanese sovereignty and UNSCR 1701 by armed Israeli soldiers an act that was meant to "'preserve calm in northern Israel' A more accurate assessment of what happened would be "a group of armed Israeli militants violated international law by unilaterally invading Lebanese terrirotry and in the process, got what they deserved."
12. It was a professional!
Piotr Berman ,   State College   (08.08.13)
But explainers of Hezbollah have a better day.
13. #2 Amichai, there was no admission
Jake   (08.08.13)
The IDF is still investigation and has released no information on the site of the blast. Suffice it to say that there is a swathe of Israeli territory on the NORTH side of the border fence. Crossing over that fence does not necessarily land one in Lebanese territory.
14. Doug #11, got any proof?
Jake   (08.08.13)
Of course you don't. All the Lebanese claims are contradictory. Some of them even place the site of the explosion SOUTH of the Blue Line Border. So far there is no confirmation from UNIFIL or IDF, just a series of jacked-up statements from various Lebanese "security sources"...yeah right. By the way, every day that goes by and Hizbullah has not disarmed is a violation of Res. 1701.

Amichai, although you may believe that I need to learn about democracy and international relations, I beg to differ. I have 2 Masters degrees in counter terrorism and diplomacy and a law degree obtained from the United States... Not to mention the fact that I have over 30 articles published in respected journals. That being said, you contend that Israel should only step foot in Lebanese terrority to engage Hizballah or as a declaration of war. What qualifies as engaging hizbullah? Would planting surveillance equipment under rocks or disguised as rocks qualify as engaging? Same may consider it engaging, if you do, then your argument is moot. If you do not consider it engaging, don't you think that it would be justified in order to prevent an attack and save Israeli lives? I know you want to "win" this little debate we are having, but I do not believe that you, as a rather rationally thinking human being would be against stealthily planting surveillance equipment to save Israeli lives. I don't blame you for the paradigm that you maintain due to the the fact that you live in the United States and may not be as familiar with the situation on the ground as if you were an Israeli. Reading the news, no matter how often, doesn't replace seeing it first hand via military service. All the best Amichai and I hope that Israel continues to do whatever it takes to protect the lives of its citizens, no matter how repugnant it is to "diplomacy" (something the arabs know nothing about)
17. With drones above, is it necessary to have

foot traffic in mine fields.
18. Schröder #15 No one knows exactly what happened
Jake   (08.08.13)
and where. Lebanese statements are all over the map, and neither UNIFIL nor the IDF have confirmed a single one. But that doesn't stop the usual suspects from jumping the gun with ugly propaganda and accusations against Israel. Y'all know who you are.
19. 11 Doug.Lebanon is not a sovereign state,
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.08.13)
Lebanon is a vasal of Iran, under the Iranian high commissioner, the quisling nasaralla, the war is not between Israel and Lebanon,it is Iran who is steering the pot of violence, the people of Lebanon,if they could would rather have peace with Israel, then let Iran suck it's blood, for now,Iran decides Lebanon's destiny,Israel has every right to defend itself against Iran as it pleases.
20. Karma, getting what you deserve.
American Vet   (08.08.13)
Is real respects no borders. According to the talmud israeli own the world.
21. 4 Israels sovereignity is not outside UN181borders
lydia   (08.08.13)
Nothing outside Israels unilaterally declared borders is" Israel's sovereignty". sraels numerous infringement of Lebanon's airspace is constant and prolific.
22. 7 The Jewish State has defined borders
lydia ,   Brisbane   (08.08.13)
Keep within Israels unilaterally declared borders. Venture outside said borders and you deserve what you get.
23. 10 Land not Israeli but cluster bomb IS
lydia ,   Brisbane   (08.08.13)
Israel peppered Lebanon with millions of cluster bomb during the 2006 confrontation with Hezbollah Despite numerous request from the UN stubbornly refused to hand over the ordinance map so the bombs could be destroyed. Now Israel is reaping what it sows.
24. 13 Nothing outside Israels 1948 borders
lydia ,   Brisbane   (08.08.13)
belongs to Israel and the IOFs venturing outside Israel's UNILATERALLY declared borders UN181 is an infringement of Lebanon's territory and crossing Israels illegally constructed fence, makes is even more so.
25. 14Every day that Israel still occupies Palesstine
lydia ,   Brisbane   (08.08.13)
Is a blatant violation of some 250 UN res.
26. Food lesson
Bruno ,   Los Angeles, U.S.A   (08.08.13)
Now they know. Violating Lebanon's border will cost, so we better be careful next time. Gone are the days where the IDF was able to go into Lebanon undeterred. I guess 2006 was painful.
27. @ jake 14 & 18 - look at Lebanese soldiers inspecting site
anonymous   (08.08.13)
Look at Ynet picture showing Lebanese soldiers inspecting the site of the blast. What more proof you need.
28. To: No. 11
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.08.13)
Really? Are the United States drone strikes in Yemen violations of international law? How about Waziristan and Afghanistan? You know, the drone strikes that have killed thousands of innocent civilians. Has Yemen declared war against the United States? Attacked the United States? How about Waziristan -- has Waziristan declared war against the United States? Attacked the United States? Has Afghanistan declared war against the United States? Attacked the United States? I do believe the answer to the foregoing questions is a resounding "NO." On the other hand, Lebanon exists in a state of war against Israel. Hezbollah has often enough declared itself dedicated to the destruction of the State of Israel. You are an idiot, Doug. We know it. You have proven it often enough. You no longer need to post your inanities. All you succeed in accomplishing is proving just how moronic you are. As to "getting what [they] (meaning Israel) deserve -- what does the United States deserve for its deliberately calculated massacre of over one million Afghani civilians, over one million Iraqi civilians, over two hundred and fifty thousand civilians in Waziristan and at least fifty thousand civilians in Yemen? Hmm? Hasbara that, asshole.
29. 28 Obfuscation does not ameliorate Israel
lydia ,   Brisbane   (08.08.13)
Israel is the greatest violator of UN res. The injured Israeli soldiers were more than probably victims of the cluster bombs Israel used during the 2006 war when Hezbollah chased them out of Lebanon. 72hrs after the peace treaty was agreed, the cowards returned and dropped millions of cluster bombs on Lebanon.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.08.13)
Sweetie, there are consequences to starting -- and LOSING -- wars. The Arabs have started -- and LOST -- six. Israel owes them nothing. The ersatz "Palestinians" ended up on the losing side. Boo, hoo, hoo. Cry me a river, why don't you? The vanquished have no right to set agendas, terms, conditions or anything else. They must come -- crawling -- to negotiations that Israel very generously decided to allow (the victors don't have to do that, you know) and accept whatever crumbs Israel may extremely generously decide to throw them. That's just how the world works, chica. By the way -- war is a violation of all manner of United Nations resolutions. The Arabs have started six against Israel, and lost all six. Do you really -- snicker -- want to raise the issue of violations of United Nations resolutions? Well, you're evidently stupid enough. Go for it. See where it gets you, but in the meantime, please make sure you continue to clean all those toilets in Brisbane. That's about your speed, chica.
