1. the end of an era
(08.25.13)
The problem of the Left (Israel, US or Europe) is the reliance on narrative rather than reality. They think of how they want things to be (invariably, their opponents are evil, they are saintly, and they make a profit). The problem is that reality stays reality. Just as in Israel, the Leftist Oslo fantasy has killed tens of thousands and brought Israel's existence into doubt, Obama's fantasies have ended the era of Christianity in the Middle East. Thanks to Obama, no matter who wins in Egypt (Brotherhood or Saudi-sponsored military) the Copts are gone. The same for Syria: whether or not Assad wins this round Obama's Sunni Jihadis will get the Christians at the end. As for Israel, the only place in the Middle East where Christians are safe, Obama is doing his best to finish us off also.
2. Japan suffered from nerve gas terror, too.
Miron ,   USA   (08.25.13)
Who proposed to "respond"? Fascism is fascism is fascism. Hitlers always find burning Reich to implement their conquests.
3. Assad neeeds to be ousted
CJK   (08.25.13)
unless he leaves syria voluntarily and lets in peacekeeping forces who would remove all chemical weapons, assad must be ousted. the world cannot allow the use of chemical weapons by anyone. saddam gassed the kurds and the world did nothing. a few years later he invaded kuwait yet he was allowed to remain in power. the same mistake cannot be made with assad. he either goes peacefully, or else he must be ousted.
4. #1 - So what do you propose?
spyguy ,   seattle   (08.25.13)
Please tell us exactly where the US will get the cash to start another war in the ME? Where will the US get the soldiers to die in the ME? If you are so eager for people to die, will you be leading e charge?
5. 4 no amount of cash can buy brains or courage
CJK   (08.25.13)
Israel fought major wars on all fronts against all the arab armies when she was destitute.

Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (08.25.13)
Build a high fence around Syria and let those retards go happily after each other.
7. #4
aaron ,   toronto,canada   (08.25.13)
And what do you think will happen to the US if you do nothing? Do you think they won't come to the states you're wrong. By doing nothing they consider you weak and will start on you.
8. #4 response
(08.25.13)
What I propose is based on US interests alone. Accept that there will be no more Christians in Egypt, give Copts unlimited visas to US, like you should have done for the Jews in 1938. Dump PLO and support maximal Zionist demands (Dannon, Elkin) with one-for-one population exchange: Sunni for Druze, Christians and Alawi. Make Lebanon a Christian/Druze haven with one-for-one population exchange, protected by US. Make an Alawi state without chemical weapons, protected by US. Accept that you lost, cooperate with Russia to stabilize the rest of the Middle East to ensure oil to China and Japan, for instance, no Iranian nukes in exchange for dumping Saudi Arabia.
9. THere is a huge problem here!
paulD ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.25.13)
Both the Rebels and Assad are both morally depraved, and either one could equally have committed this crime. The usual assumptions, who died, who used the gas, who would use the gas, cannot be applied to a conflict like this The falsehood, the glorification of death, even killing your own people for victory to their extremist beliefs, allows for any possibility. This being the case; the US should identify the rot in both camps, and destroy both. The unfortunate reality is that they are both rotten.
10. stop the madness
aaron ,   toronto,canada   (08.25.13)
I've said it a hundred times, the only way to stop the madness is for ALL DEMOCRATIC countries to get out of the UN (useless nations) and form their LEAGUE OF DEMOCRATIC NATIONS.Cancel all trade with CHINA AND RUSSIA and see how fast the go down to their knees.
11. 8 not a bad idea
CJK   (08.25.13)
however, good logical ideas are never adopted.

13. Obama weighs options
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (08.25.13)
God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; you have been weighed on the scales and found wanting; your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians. - Daniel 5:25-28
14. #10 - There is zero chance the world
spyguy ,   seattle   (08.25.13)
will stop trading with China and/or Russia.. Without Russian natural gas, Europe would freeze this coming winter. Without China, the US and Israel would be without any technology. Unless you want the global economy to grind to a halt, driving most western nations into starvation, there is nothing that can be done to either China or Russia. You may not like the way the world is, but you have zero power to change it, you can only live with it the way it is. BTW - getting out of the UN would just isolate the minority of the people on earth since the nations you "approve" of are actually a minority on this earth.

"Without China, the US and Israel would be without any technology."....Did you really mean to type that? If you did you may very well be the most uninformed person to have tb'd on this site in years.
16. # 14 Technology from China?
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (08.25.13)
All China knows how to do is copy other peoples work. You are right that there is zero chance that what Aaron # 10 calls for will never happen but what he is saying is absolutely right. Eventually Russia is going down when they will try to invade Israel from the north. China will probably be the biggest world power by default but it won't last either. We will soon be a has been as a world power when our economy collapses due to debt and the fact that there is nothing to support our currency. # 10 has exactly the right idea but the people that count are not going to listen.
17. To: No. 14
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.26.13)
Oh, the aptly-named Leviathan natural gas field can keep the Europeans warm this winter. Israel can charge less because of its proximity to Europe. As for China -- what do you think will happen should the United States revoke its "most favored nation" trade status? What would happen should the United States start imposing huge tariffs on poor quality Chinese-made goods? Aaron has the right idea. Without funding from the world's democracies, how long do you think the United Nations would last? Oh my goodness! Ban Ki Moon and Navi Pillay would actually have to start working for a living! And how long do you think the UNRWA will stay in business without the funds from Western democracies? Who is going to pick up the slack? Russia? China? Saudi Arabia? Qatar? Yeah, right. Aaron's actually on to something here.
18. Enormous ignorance about China
spyguy ,   seattle   (08.26.13)
#15 -17 demonstrate gross ignorance about China. While China in the late 1700s was quite behind European nations, most westerners are totally ignorant that China was the technology and trading leader in Asia for 5000 years before that. For the next 150 years China was oppressed by Europeans and Japan, BUT after WW2 they decided to catch up and as of now China is equal to every other nation on earth and is quickly out pacing the rest of the world. Discounting China is a foolish idea because they will be the world leader in many areas in just a few more years. I have done extensive business in China over the last 35+ years and know just how rapidly they have caught up and now in many way surpass the US, Europe and Israel. China does NOT need the US.
19. Is the President Asleep or Not?
ltrail ,   United States   (09.01.13)
And the thing about all of this, is that while the media says that Obama must get permission from Congress, it does not necessarily mean that Congress officially has to be in session. In times like these, yeah in times of war, anything can be done by many means. The element of surprise is always the best in times of war. Such may be what is going on now. So Syria, expect a shot across your damn bow. The USA has sufficient assets in the Mediterranean to do whatever is necessary.
