32. yes egypt won... the truth can never be change.....
Calabi ,   Sydney Aust   (09.13.13)
Lost some battles and win the war is Divine!!!!! God bless Israel!!!!!
33. Such a Victory!
marvls ,   nyc   (09.13.13)
The Egyptian Third (or was it second) army was surrounded on the western bank of the Suez. They were saved by the Soviet threats to the U.S. to intervene . Halevai all of Israel's enemies should experience such 'victories'! (The only problem is, after all the wars, the Arabs act as if they were the winners and want to dictate the terms of peace).
34. Funny - but I was there
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.13.13)
If they won some sort of victory then they cannot afford to 'win' anymore ever. The 3rd Army was totally surrounded - no food, no water, no ammunition, no medical. The 1st Army would be cut off in another 3-6 days. There was no 2nd Army. I had pictures of some the guys at the Pyramids. Some victory - they only thing Egyptians did well was surrender, die or run away.
35. From a pure military perspective...
Ari   (09.13.13)
From a pure military perspective the 73 War was Israel's biggest victory.
36. #5 Mendoza, that's faulty logic
Jake   (09.13.13)
The Egyptians were hoping to regain the Sinai WITHOUT a peace agreement and WITHOUT recognition of Israel. As a result of Camp David and the peace agreement with Israel, they were ostracized from the Arab League and regarded as a pariah, whereas before that they were leaders of the Arab world and Arab nationalism. Moreover, the other Arab player in the 1973 war, Syria, failed to regain the Golan Heights.
37. Wait, wait, wait...
Abraham ,   Australia   (09.14.13)
So if the goal of Israel's enemies, including Egypt, was to destroy/conquer Israel - and Israel still remains today - then how did they win the war? The only thing Egypt and all of Israel's enemies won was not being completely annihilated. The only reason Egypt exists today is because Israel did not press on to "finish them off". It's like a game of football. I can't say I won the game if I didn't beat the other side.
38. Truth and fact is elusive
USA   (09.13.13)
Truth and fact is elusive to most Islamic minds. Is this genetic, spiritual or what??? BTW the much vaunted Egyptian 3rd Army was surrounded by the IDF on the Egyptian side of the Suez, but the mighty USSR began activating paratroopers to come to help the big bully Egypt on the verge of collapse and defeat by a teeny tiny Jewish nation. The rest is history when the US and UN stepped in and stopped the IDF from decimating the Egyptian 3rd Army...end of the Yom Kippur war.
39. haha yeah Oct 6 was good for egypt
courtney ,   usa   (09.13.13)
however oct 9-25 werent quite so hot
40. a thousand excuses for losing a war
james mcnamara ,   outthere   (09.14.13)
you lose a war and ten you find and make all sorts of excuses why you lost that war.the arabs are very good at finding and making excuses.
41. WHO CARES! WHO IS THE REAL WINNER?
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (09.14.13)
One look at Egypt and you know who is the real winner. Israel is there and stronger than before while Egypt can feed its own population and will be at civil war for years to come. Muslims love glorifying things that have no real value in life. OK, you won, Egypt. Now, can you feed yourselves?
42. Revisionist History to the Max
John ,   NY USA   (09.13.13)
I was 12 years old, when this war was fought. I remember Israel having Early setbacks. When the cease fire was declared, Egypt no longer had an air force, or control of the Sinai. The Egyptian Army was surrounded and depended on the mercy of Israel, not to annihilate it. What a victory!!
43. #14 Benjy

44. @13
sipahi ,   Istanbul   (09.13.13)
And you seem to "forget" or pretend to hide the fact that it was the operation codenamed "Nickel Grass" which saved Israel from total defeat. The airlifting operation came to Israel's rescue when almost half of the Israeli tanks, artillery were destroyed and Israel were running out of ammunition.
45. yom kippur war
moisesito ,   cortlandt manor,usa   (09.13.13)
Israel got unprepared because of Dayan. When the arabs were sending massive forces to the borders, Dayan ( on sept. 30} said that the arabs were doing military exercises. Lately, to save Dayan's face, the Agranat commission, found Elazar as responsible for the initial debacle.
46. We got our land back simple
Kariem Afifi ,   Cairo,Egypt   (09.14.13)
We got our land back simple
47. in the same speech as saying Egypt won he admits Israel won
zionist forever   (09.13.13)
ISRAEL IS STILL CONSIDERED AN ENEMY OF THE ARAB AND MUSLIM WORLD. Now if Egypt had won the war he would be saying Israel WAS an enemy of the arab and muslim world because there would no longer be an Israel it would be Egyptian territory now. If Egypt won then his paratrooper father would not be showing him battlefields instead he would have been taking him shopping in whatever the Egyptians had renamed Tel Aviv after they captured it. The UN would not have been insisting Egypt return their captured territory instead they would be taking the attitude of if you win it you keep it and Egypt defeated Israel so Egypt can keep Israel I want to know why it is that in ulpan they taught me hebrew when they should have taught me arabic considering that Egypt won the war,
48. to #7
David ,   Rishon Lezion, Israe   (09.14.13)
Al Aqsa Mosque - built 705AD, 1st Temple built 957BCE. That's 1662 years that the mosque was NOT there and the Temple was. Better to compare the Mosque to the Crown Plaza in Jerusalem. They are both relatively new structures.
49. what difference does it really
arne ,   chicago usa   (09.13.13)
make. so for the sake of argument and for their pride let them have it. it's better to have them as an equal partner then an unequal adversary. those wars are history and history always perverts itself.let's have peace with Egypt, god knows we've got lots of enemies.
50. Only the UN "Security" Council saved Egypt from disaster.
Scott ,   USA   (09.14.13)
51. Delusion
Ross Gallen ,   Henderson, USA   (09.13.13)
This article is a keen insight into the Arab mind. There is a clearly defined inability to deal with the fact of the Egyptian defeat in 1973. One might simply say this is a revisionist view of history, but a deeper probing illustrates the Arab mentality that is seethed in illusion and disinformation.
52. Accuracy
Marty ,   Toronto Canada   (09.13.13)
"According to the Israeli Air Force's website, there was no arieal battle on October 14 1943, despite the fact that Israeli newspapers published reports regarding the battle." Unless we are talking about a WW2 battle - the October War took place in 1973 not 1943. You also misspelled the word aerial
53. too bad for ppl in arabs country's. they dont know!!
Haim ,   Montreal,Canada   (09.13.13)
Here how's lies work. As a yong jew who lived in an arab country, i was lisning to radio(yes in arabic) who decribed the 2 days war... first day 150 israeli planes were downed by arab (egyptien) air-force! second day 200 ..third day all israeli thanks were burning....i use to look at my parent, crying ..asking....a week after the bbc (in arabic) was taking of a report that arab were at the UN asking israeli to provide food and water to one full army of egyptien taht were (prisoners)... Nothing changed since then.. all other wars... and arabs Inside their countries are keept in propaganda and darkness... this is one them. Shana tova!!!
54. Arab Victory version
Natan ,   USA   (09.13.13)
Unless you are TOTALY destroyed you are victorious...
55.  a group dedicated to "the war's achievements".achievement?!
(09.13.13)
is war the only thing Arabs like to find achievment in? what about using all that oil riches for helping other human beings (infidels) in the world? or at least helping other moslems like themselves?!
56. Historian?
Zyx ,   USA   (09.13.13)
"a group dedicated to "the war's achievements and disseminating the acts of bravery for the average Egyptian and Arab" A "historian" with a lot of credibility, indeed.
57. Never Be Peace
sam ,   belton mo usa   (09.13.13)
More evidence as if any was needed as to why there will never be peace between Israel and the Arabs. The Arabs make up their own history and live in a world were what is really black is considered white and vice versa, How can you make peace with people who exist in an alternate universe?
58. Meanwhile blood flows in the streets
ASTRONAUT ,   SC   (09.13.13)
of Egypt. Get you act together, Egypt. Tend to your own INTERNAL affairs. Build road, schools, hospitals, universities. Educate your women. Appreciate your fellow citizens. But that kind of work takes commitment - all you know is point the finger of blame to Israel, to the USA, to anyone other than yourselves. It's Rosh Hashana: a New Year. A time to reflect. Maybe you Egyptians should take notes from Israel and the Jews. Maybe you Egyptians should TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.
59. US air Lift saved Israel Butt
kareem ,   kareem   (09.14.13)
Without it, Israel would have be is misery. That is why Golda Mair sent to Nixon on the third day a message "save Israel'. Israelis don't want to admit that fact though.
60. @ # 7, Observer
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (09.14.13)
"ask the same question about the temple this time, the first israeli will point to the wailing wall, the second israeli will confirm that the original wailing wall is at the income tax building" This is true only if you ask an Israeli Arab. Ask an Israeli Jew and you'll get the same answer every time.
