when Bibi & Sarah go to bed at night on an empty stomach, maybe this dire situation will change! This report STINKS.
2. Study Tora - FREE subsidies, child allowances
Sage of the Age ,   Israel   (10.03.13)
Those who don't work live at expense of those who do work and the rabbis claim that's Tora

But, the over fed, over paid courts say the state has to take care of 65,000 illegal African/moslems.

a kablan. Try to get work on yr own and pocket NIS 50 per hour, which is the paying rate these days. Do a good job and get recommendations. ! Good luck
6. That's Torah
יצחק ,   מקסיקו   (10.03.13)
Believe or not, not even they get to live without problems as such. Try to feel the pain of your people then try to say just because they don't work we're all paying. Hey maybe people that pay less taxes also are to be blamed . Hashem be with you my brother .
7. Stop crying, keep on voting for a rightist government
Reuven ,   Netanya   (10.04.13)
What else do you expect of a country that thinks big brother is more important than what happens in the world around them. Idiot voters elect idiots in the knesset, you really expect a vision to plan 30+ years ahead ... this is the result.

Ephraim ,   Jerusalem   (10.04.13)
Those making high salaries think that everyone else is a burden and think everything is fine. Well, everything is not fine. Salaries and living expenses in Israel are a joke. A 3 room apartment in Jerusalem, for example, will cost at least 4000 shekels (if you're lucky enough to find something these days so cheap). Add another 500 for municipal taxes, 100 (or more) for VAD payment (building committee each tenant pays for upkeep of their building), 500 (minimum) for electric and water, 100 for gas and we're up to 5200 shekels. A person who makes a 6000 shekel salary has 600 taken out for taxes. So...5400 net salary minus 5200 for apartment plus bills leaves 200 shekels ($60) a month for food, clothing, buses, medicine, school payments, etc. If someone needs to buy eyeglasses or some other needed items, they don't eat that month. Vacations? Not going to happen. Birthday presents for the kids? Going to a movie or other show? Not going to happen. People work 160+ hours a month and live like dogs. No life, no enjoyment, no pleasure, just the daily hell of getting through the day. For people making minimum salaries, which is what most of the jobs offered today pay, the salary is closer to 4000 shekels a month. Those people can only pay rent, and have nothing left, even for the basic bills (utilities, etc.). Where is food money? The people smart enough or lucky enough to make more money could not care less, so nothing changes. Unfortunately most people in Israel are in that 4000-6000 range. The haves will say, "move to the Negev", or some other far away place. Life is not that simple, and that is a ridiculous argument. In America, for example, real estate is more in New York than in Oklahoma, but salaries in New York and also much higher than in Oklahoma, so it evens out. Here, no such correlation. Something needs to change. The biggest problem is housing. In most countries, the government either builds or offers incentives to builders for low and and mid-level income housing. In Israel, poor WORKING people are at the mercy of private apartment owners charging whatever price they want with no rent control whatsoever. This entire situation should be getting much more attention, but as I stated in the subject line, people don't care. Shame on all of us.

Don't fool yourself.
13. Conflict of interest
Carl   (10.04.13)
Don't you think that the NII has a little tiny conflict of interest here? The more money they get the more they can build up their bureaucracy and power.
14. The Rich Gallus and Israeli Mansion Moguls
Zechariah   (10.04.13)
After the Shoah it's even a greater disgrace.i see the greater Israel advocates in their Mansions in the Gallus most don't give near to their ability.Corruption in Israel and Settlements instead of Military Ballistic and Nuclear Shelters for Jews and Arabs doesn't help Precision Donating needs Establishment.
15. the poverty statistic is even MORE than this article states!
R ,   Israel   (10.04.13)
Tammy says, "Every day is a battle," . "I have no money and I have no life. It feels like the government doesn't care." Sorry to tell her, she's absolutely right! the government does not care! For a divorced woman taking care of children who is living only on the betuch leumi stipend, we can expect her never to have enough money to pay rent and food, let alone have a life! This means that any woman in a bad marriage will STAY in a bad marriage because she is afraid of the poverty she will face! I've seen this! Yesterday, I bought a family groceries or they would simply not eat. I had just replaced my worn out couches. Then I was told about a large family who sits on broken wood. I offered them the couches which they were only too happy to receive but they didn't even have money for moving charges. fortunately I was able to raise this money, (the father recently lost his job. they didn't have even an extra shekel!) These are the success stories because many people, outside our government DO CARE. BUT WE NEED A GOVERNMENT THAT HANDLES THIS OR PEOPLE WILL DIE! Food stamps should be given out like in the US and at least enough money to cover the average rent and utilities.
16. Heads in the sand
GRP ,   Tel Aviv   (10.04.13)
That 60% of the country lives on minimum wage or below it (!) is a disgrace and government, smug in their own comforts can't see the forest for the trees. What nobody gets is that the minimum wage created conditions for mean employers not to pay more and the wage itself was set appallingly low. A minimum wage also doesn't take into account levels of work - skilled workers get no more than unskilled workers. You get paid twice as much to clean houses. But where is this truly a problem? If people earn only minimum wage, they pay virtually no tax. No tax means no money in treasury coffers and no money in treasury coffers means government stipends to the unemployed or very low workers are so low as to be of almost no assistance at all. If most people can't afford more than basic goods, businesses are earning less and paying in less taxes off the goods they sell - so also less money to the treasury. It's a vicious circle of greedy corporations saving on wage costs, raising goods to unbelievably ridiculous high levels, no incentives for small businesses (the tax authority drives small business people round the bend, leaving the corporations paying next to nothing) and people earning next to nothing having no incentive to do more than the minimum in jobs, making this country one of the least productive in the developed world. Too many people believe that socialism was an evil that wrecked economies. Well, look at America - the kingpin of corporate excess - now: in economic freefall. And that is the example that Mr Luxury Lover Netanyahu decided would be the way for Israel to go... and mass poverty has been the result. Anyone object to Bibi bashing? Not nearly enough! Socialism may not be the answer but somewhere in-between that and the obscene capitalism overkill might possibly restore the world to sane economics.
17. poor in israel
Daniel ,   Nahariyya   (10.04.13)
To make a bad situation even worse, if over 40, in my case I am 55, no one will hire us. Nefesh b nefesh brought is here without telling is the truth that our age we would not find work, and the they just abandon their new olim, while they rack in the money from donars and the government. My wife is very I'll and within two months from now we will be living in a tent on the beach. Our situation is hopeless. Living the dream is nothing short of a total nightmare
18. No one will starve!
alen ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.04.13)
There are plenty of jobs over there. the only problem we choose the best jobs in offices. If we only learn to clean houses, taking care of old people, and work in the farm then no need to take hundred thousands of workers from other countries. Those who starve in Israel are only the lazy ones.
19. what is wrong with these comments?
Daniel ,   Nahariyya   (10.04.13)
How can some of these people commenting here say such things and blame the victoms? It is clear they are part of the problem, the, We have ours and the hell with everyone else, people. I say, to hell with you and your smug arrogance! I personally have worked full time since I was 12 years old, the last three years as a new oleh I have been reduced to a begger and stand to lose what little I brought with me to Israel after giving up what I thought was important already, but being thrilled to do so in order to come and work in Israel as an israeli. Come see the poor who are heading into a cold winter living in tents north of nahariyya, people without hope! So please take yoursmug attitudes and go away. I could feed myself and my wife and a few more if I had a dunam of land but I am only a jew and not Arab; therefore I get no free land. Sick society we made Mr Bibi and Mr Lapid, enjoy your wealth at the peoples expence while you can.

You self rightouse piece of excrement! You are obviously one of the elite 'the haves'. To keep yours you must defame those who don'thave. Shame on you. 'May you learn poverty and thereby compasion. May you meet someone like you when you do.

Do you have marketable skills and are willing to do all kinds of work, or did you think that the state will take care of all your and your wifes needs. This is Israel, not Disneyland.
23. THE RENTS ARE TOO HIGH!!!
orli naaman ,   Jerusalem   (10.04.13)
Forget 'dignified'! We can do without a great deal and keep our heads up... but we can not pay the rent and to live in the streets is NOT dignified! (we are a 68 year old working couple! yes, low wages) The real estate agents are pushing up the rents too!

Eli ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (10.04.13)
If they worked and paid for their pensions and Kupat Holim then they can manage well enough. For the old coming to Israel, well they should have savings abd pensions from their former countries.
27. Shameless Government
yoel ,   Israel   (10.04.13)
It is a disgrace that the Government cannot do more to save the poor, hungry, and homeless- Bibi, you tell others to prove by their deeds- first you sould talk less and do more for tthe deserving citizens. cut down on your travel abroad, & stop showing off.

Open your eyes will you. There are elderly people in Israel who are having great financial difficulties. Office folks are able to support themselves, the elderly, infirm, single parenst & Holocaust survivours, not. Try to have some compassion!
