1. ..and when you have children...
Eli ,   Raanana   (11.20.13)
...and you gonna work the British style, leaving at 7:30 and returning home at 20:00, you are very likely to find out that your kids are on drugs or prematurely got involved into sex relations. You have a few good points re Israel but I think your story is naive.
2. Sad but true
Dov ,   London   (11.20.13)
It is sad but unfortunately most of this article is correct. I am an orthopaedic surgeon. I was brought up in Israel and UK did combat army service as an officer in IDF I was the 'salt of the earth' as they say but I left for London. It is simply a very easy life her in London you work hard you succeed unlike in Israel where hard work does not reap much reward the wages are simply very low indeed and it is hard to sustain a family in Israel. I have a holiday home in Israel a villa on the seafront and my family spend Pesach, Sukkot, 2 months summer, Xmas holidays in Israel and I commute these times. This article basically states what we all know but are ashamed to admit that Israel is a very small country with limited opportunities and low wages where the middle class/taxpaying/miluimserving/Hiloniminority is abused and better off elsewhere
3. Poor guy,he is trying to convince..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (11.20.13)
himself, that he did the right thing. The problem is,he can flee Israel [he had no reason to do so] but he can't flee himself.
4. Mark my words...Israel will pass you by
Al   (11.20.13)
I've been around long enough to see that Israel keeps on going from strength to strength as time goes by. Notwithstanding the lousy politics and lousy leadership Israel is primed to become a very wealthy nation. You are a kid, you understand very little for you never really studied our history. You don't have the perspective of those who know and understand. In time you will want to return only I hope that at that time you will be able to.
5. Emigration
ger ,   raanana, Israel   (11.20.13)
I'll bet Naor has kept his Israeli passport and ID card in his apartment, so that when the Moslem population takes over Britain, as it is doing in other parts of Europe, he'll be on the first plane back here.
6. Don't blame Israel
(11.20.13)
Don't blame Israel for your problems. Many of us are not rich, a criminal or have strong connections and are suceeding. You live in London now and believe me many in London are having a hard life. You are living a good life in London, good for you, you are OK now because you decided living in London is better than in Israel, but belive me if you decided life can be good in Israel, you would be happy to live here. The decision is yours and not Israel or London. Shame on you for blaming Israel.
7. london
A V ,   londn uk   (11.20.13)
you wrong ok . the same intolerable opinion is every were in the world ,be real and stop moaning ,nobody give you anything ,Israel is not different than anywhere else WAKE UP.i
8. Good Morning
Bert ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.20.13)
The problems stated are not new and so the writer has not added anything other than proving that he is a weak individual. Some of us are trying our hardest to see the positive while trying to repair whatever is lacking. If this writer was a real man, he would man up and dedicate his time and efforts to changing things. Running away is the most cowardly thing I can think of. Life has more to it than just convenience...
9. # 4 Al
Raptor   (11.20.13)
I have been around long enough, probably longer than you. I have been through the mill of life in Israel, there is not an aspect of Israeli society that I have not experienced intimately and empirically. I know every nook and cranny of this country, its successes and its failings, its upside and its downsides. I have spent my entire life in Israel and dedicated to Israel. I also know and understand life and society in Western countries such as Britain. My verdict is simple, Israel is a failed society and Naor is telling the truth as it is and as it should be told. Israel is a failed society because it cannot provide the means for a basic decent life style for the majority of its citizens in spite of gouging taxes at extortionate rates from whomever and wherever it can. Israel is a failed society because respect is a word which does not exist, not between the State and its citizens and not between individuals. Sectorial and prejudicial attitudes are the norm and arrogance is rife. Naor told the truth and so do I.

I already work 0730 to 2000. What? You don't think people in IL work hard?
11. What is this a highschool English composition?!
(11.20.13)
12. economic comfort fool's game when it's Israel or England
dmitry ,   Israel   (11.20.13)
The reasons listed in this article are ridiculous. And I know my 'ridiculous' since I lived both in the USA and Israel for a long time. Plus I lived in a really crappy former Soviet country as well (now there is a good moving for economic convenience argument). This guy lives in one of the most expensive cities on the planet and if economic comfort is the true reason, he'll be running back to Israel in ten years. England will never exit the economic depression it is now. I think he is just not to qualified to have a real good job in Israel with growth prospects and he wanted an adventure with something new, didn't have any strong relationships with friends or partner back home. That's why I moved to the States as well when I was young; sometimes a change of scenery for a decade can do wonders. The credit company job sounds dreary though. At least I used my time in the 'West' to get a really fun profession.
13. I got a hot country for this writer, spain,
ghostq   (11.20.13)
people make fund rasing to activate public street lights as we speek.
14. #2. Sad but true : Yes Dov for you & yours
norbus ,   Jerusalem   (11.20.13)
People like you should stay and fight for improved standards, instead of taking the easy way out, running away How do you value the inner security of children born in their homeland, against the self doubts How do you value your children happiness and freedom? Good luck to you all; you will need it
15. Life in Israel intolerable
Joe ,   Afula   (11.20.13)
I myself came to Israel with $200 in my pocket from America, served in the military, did an Ulpan, studied at university, worked incredibly hard to achieve a meagre existence here in Eretz Yisrael and now I have a great job, wife, kids, own my own house and absolutely love my lifestyle and standard of living. Life in Israel is not intolerable. Its free, happy and quiet rewarding and has an incredible balance of a social safety net and a capitalist economy. Yes we have our problems and its our responsibility and duty to work them out together. What is intolerable are Israelis like you Naor Krekoano. You sir do not know what you have in our very young country. I can only hope that one day our government won't entice you to return to Israel using tax breaks for you and my tax shekels to bring you back. As far as I am concerned Israel is better off without you and people like you. Good riddance.
16. Blame the government, not the yordim
Avi   (11.20.13)
Every time an Israeli leaves the country due to economic hardships, attack the government for its complacency instead of the yored. Especially if that Israeli is willing to look back and explain why he left. You can't say Naor doesn't care or we wouldn't be reading his article.
17. Don't blame Israel!
Colin ,   Raanana   (11.20.13)
If Naor is happy residing in London, lucky him!! He may continue in this way for many years, he may eventually regret the move. Good luck to him. i know why I came here and why I have no thoughts about living anywhere else.
18. Its tragic but he is right
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (11.20.13)
I made the same journey that Naor made at about the same age - but in the opposite direction - it seems that the London he experiences is not the London that I experienced - what is certain is that Israel today is not the same Israel that I moved to back in the eighties. The tragedy is how easy it is to empathise with him and how hard it is to justify to my children continuning to live here - for what - because in 30 years time Israel -the Israel I fell in love with will no longer exist -as successions of faustian politicians have sold the country out to the religious extremists with whom there is no possibility of ever arriving at a modus vivendi with . It seems that our government is not interested in our young people - and Netanyahu's hysterical doom and gloom message hardly helps.
19. So True
Paul ,   UK/IL   (11.20.13)
I could not agree more with Noah, I have to live 4 weeks in Israel and 4 weeks in the UK just to have enough to enjoy the time in Israel. I made Aliyah more than 20 years ago and lasted 2 years before the Israeli economy crushed me. Now I can enjoy both, but at a price.
20. Thanks Naor, I too feel the same way
Jb ,   New Zealand / Israel   (11.20.13)
I am an Israeli emigrant who moved to New Zealand. Who ever says that life abroad is just as difficult as Israeli life is deluded and c
21. Who needs him
Bill Stein ,   USA   (11.20.13)
To me he is no longer a Jew or a Israeli. Note he says he tells the truth as he says it about Israel. He does not talk about the anti semitism and Anti Israel feeling in The UK and he had fled to a basically hostile country. I would hope he learns a hard lesson.?he most likely hides the fact he is Jewish and Israeli. He is a traitor in my opinion
22. And all the Brits want to emigrate
Jonny ,   Cape Town   (11.20.13)
Funny how many British Citizens I have met who could not wait to get out of there. My hometown is full of them. I guess Naor is not married, and has no kids. Try bringing up kids in London. The bottom line is that the grass is always greener on the other side, and what people value in life is different from person to person. If you want to lead a real impersonal life, then by all means, London is probably the place for you.
23. Life in England
Jules ,   London, England   (11.20.13)
This guy is deluded. As a Jewish Londoner and a regular visitor to Israel I can safely say that very few things in London are better than in Israel. In London for six months of the year the weather is miserable. The food is poor, the majority of the people are unsophisticated , uneducated and rude and of course the never ending influx of eastern European immigrants and invasion of Muslims is gradually changing the characteristics of the country for ever bringing with it a steep rise in anti Zionism/ semitisim. Let's hope he holds on to his Israeli passport.
24. Its tragic but he is right
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (11.20.13)

25. who cares?
Israella   (11.20.13)
Naor is entitled to his opinion and reasons for his actions but why do we need to be subjected to his views? Who really cares why he left Israel and why he finds living in London a step up. Typical moaner who thinks that by denigrating Israel he should be admired and win some points. In my opinion Life in Israel has become even more Tolerable since Naor left.
26. #3 Ora
Michael ,   Haifa   (11.20.13)
Maybe, he has actually "found" himself there. Unlike you, and others, who like to define what we should be and how we should think (by your standards), the Brits don't impose their values on others and mostly keep their opinions to themselves. Even in the colonial period the Brits did not try to impose their culture on the "natives", as did the French. I can understand the writer of this piece, for I was born there. Unless you were born there, Ora, you could probably never understand. And if you were indeed born there, you have clearly forgotten many things.
27. London vs Israel
simon ,   UK   (11.20.13)
Naor, I am sad that you feel this way about Israel but not suprised. What I find is that your generation having grown up as the majority people in your own country have no real identity. Where as having lived all my life in the UK I understand what it is to be in a minority. Both of us are doomed to disappear and both inside and outside of Israel only the religious Jews will survive.
28. Why publishing?
Sasha ,   Bilbao, Basque   (11.20.13)
Ok, Naor, you are happy and I believe you. But why on earth do you have to publish your personal story and what lessons one may learn from it? It is really up to you where you wanna live, London, NY, Madrid, Paris, Asdod etc. Why should anybody, apart from you care? Indeed, in between Ashdod and London, I would choose London, but then if Tel Avis is concerned, it might be probably TA a better place. Live you life and leave ours to ourselves.
29. Israel vs London
Simon ,   Sydney Australia   (11.20.13)
Many people say they go to live in London, then they start work when it is dark and freezing, come out of the Underground at night when it is dark and freezing and never see any sunlight. Others say they can't afford meat and can only rent a couch. If living in London is so great why does Queen Elizabeth always look like she has something stuck up her tooches?
30. Israel is being taken over by the harideem
Haim ,   TA   (11.20.13)
The goverment ignores secular young people as they are too busy building homes for the religious extremist settlers and ultra orthadox. Not only that in a country that claims to be a democracy , religion is forced on non belivers, marriage, death etc. No wonder people have had enough. As if in the UK you could have a religious clown such as Ovadia Yosef dictating and influencing goverment policy. let aloone a former nioght club bouncer for fooreign minister, or how about the former chief rabbi on charges of fraud and theft, Yep its true Israel is well on its way to becoming a bannana republic. He was wise to move.
