1. The Corner of the Field
Zechariah   (12.17.13)
The Corner of the field left for the Poor Orphans and widows and now single mothers elderly and disabled ought be applied with Deep Committment Globally .This is not Communism but basic common decency.
2. Crisis
Oleg ,   Florida Usa   (12.17.13)
The only solution to the poverty in Israel is to buy the F-35 jet at 140 million each. Imagine what you can do with that kind of $$$ feed thousands of old and young alike. Ask for food donation from Ofra Strauss preferly cottage cheese which I buy here in a supermarket in Florida under $2 or less. The PM 's never cared ever about the economies, poverty, education and housing in Israel. Only SECURITY & SECURITY. The poverty in Israel is a time bomb. This crisis is more dangerous than the Arabs or Iran.A rich Jew must help a poor Jew.
3. Corruption drains the treasury hurt the poor

4. Actually good news, but amazingly biased reporting
Ehud   (12.17.13)
1. The number of poor families decreased to 19% 2. The percentage of the working families below the poverty threshold is only 5% (comparable to Denmark where the number is 4%), so high employment rates work! 3. The severity of poverty (gap between poverty line and average income) decreases - so those who are poor, are less poor 4. Old-age pensions were increased 2009-2011 (!), but the (relative) poverty rate among seniors increased, simply because the raise didn't keep up with the growth in the general standard of living (and probably the percentage of seniors rose in the general population). So, all good news actually (who would expect more in one year?), but the headline is, of course, misleading to catch up with the populistic , PC "social' tone required from everyone writing on the subject.
5. Put mk's and bb on commission
Telze   (12.17.13)
Poorest not even allowed to sell wares in alloted areas. Politcally corrupt I mean correct leaders should be taken off salary and placed on commission only. Believe me things would then start working like they should in today's sodom and Gomorrah I mean Chelm
6. polls are black & white doesn't consider the shades of gray
zionist forever   (12.17.13)
Seniors always suffer most because they are getting older & retiring but government doesn't have extra money to make up for longer life expectancy. Israel has always had poverty issues but its not until the digital era and the social protests it was highlighted but its not the fault of any individual government on the left or right. How many in this survey are arabs, haredi, the families ofdead or injured soldiers or olim who came with no money or skills? This poll is to black and white because there are so many groups so we need to investigate the big picture not polls.
7. Corruption also, but not only that. Also general unfairness.
Daiv Silversteen ,   Berlin, Germany   (12.17.13)
"elbow society", that is what non-Israeli Jews not so unrightfully think of Israel. Which leads to the fact, that for example in IT,computing, there are globally lots of pretenders, like also bill gates, and he didn't invent windoof, and now can make his conscience good by making programs for the poor. I don't think he also tries to educate people. But that's not the only problem. Poor Israelis are all but not educated, but educated often very highly. What we need, is more "open business", more fair biz, meaning, small, poor people who know about their field, I in computing, make their own companies, - I failed in europe due to clear antisemitism, one arab client was even violent to me, the swiss authorities punished him for theft, but not for tearing me by the arm and screaming "I will beat you up now". The Israeli state is only poor, because of boycotts by other countries and because of sadly needed expenses for the military. In switzerland, ppl who earn 90 million in one year, pay 40 million taxes per year. Is that in Israel not so? Do make high taxes, not higher than 45 percent, for super-rich people, and no taxes at all for anyone gaining less than let's say 8000 dollars per month. If you do what I say, and if you back all money by gold, then, nothing can hurt you, you funny mideasterners. I am a Jew, but not yet an Israeli, and I'll never be fully Israeli-happily. I am zionist 100%. Period. Pro-Bennet, pro-Bibi. Bibi is not to blame that so many People in Israel are poor! Don't confuse the issues. Bibi tries his best to also realise ideas how to help the poor, and how to consolidate economy, Bennet's field. There is much fraud among pc-supporters who merely pretend to be that. But against me, those idiot pc users have prejudices. Oy. You know so many people know nothing about what's important in the modern world, also in Israel. The elderly should gather for PC lessons amongst themselves, and thus, they could be creative and even earn something for charity orgs. Why not make such and other such typed programs hu. Do it. The Knesset will surely make a commitee about this problem of poverty. What I criticise, is too many idiot sudo-experts preaching their theories, which don't anymore touch reality. That's as short as I could make it.

Your argument is all statistics not first hand experience. You should take a trip to Ramle, Lod, Sderot, Arad and Kiryt Gat to see Jewish Poverty at its picking point. I seen it first hand when I visited Israel Last time. Hungry children are all over the place. I seen eldery people In Akko picking rotten food in the market from the floor when the place was closing down. Poverty was always an Issue in Israel from the 1960's till now and its growing by the day. I experienced this as a child growing up in Petach Tikva. We were always hungry. We ate mostly bread and margarina and potatos.I never tasted beef until we came to America in 1971. I love Israel dearly. Poverty is our national cancer.
9. My Mother of blessed memory used to say all the time
Al   (12.17.13)
'You prepare when you are young so you'll have when you are old.' I cant speak for Israeli seniors but for North American ones I can only say that the majority of them, including life long high earners never saved a nickel and so when they do stop working they will be in deep S@@@. Of course being the 'ME' generation, they will bitch up a storm demanding government feed, cloth and house them. I wish them well only because I have no intention of staying among them forever. Israel is very much on my horizon. Thank you very much.
10. Meaningless if you don' say who the poor are
Baruch ,   Paris, France   (12.17.13)
Why doesn't this report make clear - as any traveller to Israel will note - that poverty is mostly (not entirely, but mostly) in the ultra-Orthodox and Arab sectors who make up about 35 pct of the total population? The Zionist founding fathers must be turning in their graves about an Israel in which 80 pct of wealth is in the hands of just 10 pct of the population. But nonetheless, the figures take on a different colouring when one realises that they include the ultra-orthodox who (often) do not want to work for a living, and the Arabs who (often) want to lve in a society separate from the mainstream, and who practise archaic social mores.

Birdi ,   Israel   (12.18.13)
The immediate family of dead or gravely injured soldiers receive a monthly allowance from the State. As post #4 writes,Secular,Jewish/Israeli poor people do very much exist in Jerusalem, Beersheva, Kiriat Gat, Acco,Kraiyot & many other Israeli towns.
12. In summary , don't even THINK about it...
