1. "your leaders… your people vs our rabbis… our people"
Israeli kippa sruga ,   Israel   (03.03.14)
Two mutually exclusive peoples; the latter determined to rule the former while continuing to leech off of them. Will "your leaders… your people" (read goyim) submit to the rule of anti-science, sanctimonious "our rabbis… our people" of chilul hashem? Are you really going to implicitly accept their insinuation that non-Haredim are goyim? Are you really going to put up with those sanctimonious purveyors of chilul hashem, spitters and harassers of women and Orthodox schoolgirls, presume to stand between you and your prayers to hashem? Stop and READ Prov. 28.9!!!
2. The spilt milk was over coexistence
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD, USA   (03.03.14)
The three major hareidi parties are upset that after generations of being part of zionist Israel, they have finally realized that the anti-zionist hareidim (Eidah hareidis, Satmar, Neturei Karta - back to R. Yosef Haim Sonnenfeld and Dr. Jacob Israel De Haan) were right all along. Torah and Zionism are revealed as incompatible, and they must choose between giving up Torah and become the watered-down "religious nationalists", exile or become Palestinian hareidim (i.e. support a one-state solution, since an end to zionist rule would allow them continued freedom to be a "frum" as they want).
3. Factually Incorrect Article
Sammy ,   Jerusalem   (03.03.14)
The author of this article is very clearly not in touch with the hareidi world. He makes a number of assumptions that are a far cry from reality. He claims that "every hareidi man has two active phones in his pocket. While of course this is true with an extremely small number of haredim, the amount of haredim without any cell phones is far greater! The greatly underestimated number of 350,000 was in actuality closer to half a million. The author mentions the fact that haredim would never make it to Stockholm or invent applications. Well Mr Barnea, if only you would know how many haredim are working for the hi-tech industry. Yes - Waze, Whatsapp and even the Mossad have haredim working for them. The number may not be large, but that does not give you a right to ignore them entirely.
4. Spouting Rubbish and Calling it Journalism
Faye ,   Israel   (03.03.14)
1. Not a fact that every one has two phones. It is a fact that some don't use phones. 2. You're analysing the situation incorrectly. Despite what many people may think, the intention of a prayer rally like this is not to show or prove to the lawmakers anything. It serves to reinforce our faith and belief that He who is the Only One has always been in charge, is now in charge and always will be in charge, to reinforce it for ourselves that there is only Him and His Torah and everything else is irrelevant. We believe that whatever happens, whether the law passes or not is up to Him so we pray and when we come together in the holiest city in the world, the prayer is that much more powerful. That's all there is to it. It's quite simple really. The politicians involved in organizing the rally sometimes get carried away by the details and announce and explain unnecessarily and incorrectly. The intention of Rabbi Steinman was to make a 'Kiddush Hashem' simply to Sanctify HIs Name to counteract the desecration that is caused when studying Torah becomes a criminal offence.
5. The haredim with their demonstrations,
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (03.03.14)
and their opposition to a Jewish state, are providing the muslims and other enemies of Israel with great joy.Boris Pasternak (DR Zhivago) said :The Jews freed the world from the yoke of Pagan Idolatry, but they themselves are immersed in superstition.Isn't it pagan idolatry not to aquire a general education, and believing that this is God's will, the polititians and the erev ravanim are mutilating the minds of the haredi population forever.
6. chareidim wasting time? who wastes time
shimi ,   golan   (03.03.14)
chareidim value every second they invest it with joy and love forcing the sleep out of their eyes to learn, and understand, to give and care doing what a jew is supposed to be doing learning hashems will and fullfilling it not doing every aveirah in the torah not eating pork giving their parents joy not grief enjoying happy healthy marriages haveing joyfull loving realtionships learning and communicating with their kids not causing a shame around the world not desecrating shabbos no violence no drugs no robbery no crime no fear to walk through their neigbourhoods any time of the nightfor
7. Hareidi Military Service
MR ,   NJ,USA   (03.04.14)
At the end, it is not about politics. It is not about zionism. It is not about daas Torah. Torah is not just something to learn, it is something to live. It is not to live refined like an aristocrat, but to have refined the midot of kindness, honesty, compassion, etc. which are the heart of Torah. Lot went off the derech and lived in Sodom. But when he was in trouble blood called to blood. Abraham dropped everything and went and with G-d's help saved him. And G-d answered soon after this act with promises of greatness. At the end, it is that to deserve daas Torah you should be willing to lay down your life to defend a fellow Jew. Those who attack the Hareidi are, for this reason contemptible. But in their complete opposition to military service, the Hareidi are wrong.

We're not completely opposed to military service. We're completely opposed to conscription.
9. SMICHA
TOM ,   NEW YORK   (03.04.14)

10. The parasites have got away with it for 60 yrs
Haim ,   TA   (03.04.14)
Times up im afraid, we are no longer willing to sacrifice our lives and pay for this so called lift style of yours. Those who have a problem with that our free to leave the country, although where you will find a state that puts you above the law and pays for your lifestyle i dont know.
11. Answer to Tom (#9): zero. Pls read history of semichah in EJ
Historian ,   Israel   (03.04.14)
(Ency. Jud.). The original semichah of Mosheh was disconnected; the subsequent reform innovation semichah also disconnected. This has occurred several times in our history. It's now a piece of paper you can buy (or are awarded automatically) with neither talent nor ability if you're born in the right circles.
12. Faye (#8): Then you're completely opposed to Moses

15. Your article is full of love of For the the IDF
ShimonHaNasi   (03.04.14)
Your article is full of love of our shared institution the IDF but is flawed in its assumptions. The assumption that all religious people are the same is similar to saying all Hilonim are the same. Assuming the current IDF is accommodating toward religious officers neglects to identify the backround of those officers who are mostly from the Dati Leumi camp and look toward the IDF as a sacred obligation and privilege. Those whom they wish to "draft" are not similar in any way on a cultural level and its those difference that must be addressed. There are two very important issue that have been overlooked by the majority of Hilonim calling for Haredi Draft. The first is you should be careful before you create a system where the demands of the Majority are dictatorial toward the minority because if the roles were reversed which they maybe some day you would not find it so appealing. Think Tel Aviv College student being Drafted to Mir Yeshiva. The Second is before you decide on the WHO you're going to Draft you should agree on the WHERE. Similar to my previous example of the Hiloni youth being drafted to the Mir Yeshiva not being a workable plan neither is Drafting the Belz Chassid to a Mixed (women, secular, Other) IDF base workable either. The only solution is dialog. Even if we can all agree that Ben Gurion's status quo has been lost because of the success Haredi birthrates what comes next is not so simple. Just as the previous status quo was negotiated where not everyone was thrilled but everyone was satisfied enough we need to find that equilibrium here as well.
16. Torah Study
YIM ,   Eretz Yisroel   (03.04.14)
There is no Jew alive today that is not grateful for Eretz Yisrael. However, let it be known that the Torah is what kept us together as a nation throughout our history. Receiving the Torah at Har Sinai prec eeded the entry of the Jewish nation into Ertez Yisroel under Yehoshua. The Torah will win and no government will ever prevail against it.. Torah study keeps the world going. Let us remember the song we sang when we were kids: 'ERETZ YISROEL BLI TORAH - HE KEGUF BLI NESHAMA"
17. #13 The parasites
Moshe ,   Israel   (03.04.14)
The Torah teaches to say the truth, and sadly, the Hharedis (not the Jews) are indeed parasites, who milk Israel's coffers.
