61. Nos. 9 & 57
Joan ,   Haifa   (03.08.14)
I am also a dual US/Israeli citizen and I've never had that experience. In any case, I hope Israel never sacrifices security for political correctness.
62. Do everyone or no one. Waste time or risk lives.
chava ,   yerushalayim   (03.08.14)
Instead of picking & choosing the passengers they feel they need to scrutinize more thoroughly, they could scrutinize everyone thoroughly. Going through security would take hours for everyone, & the process would be a waste of time in most cases. Anyone who is asked more questions or scrutinized in other ways should appreciate the fact that if he or she were up to no good, they would probably be caught. So, if they're just regular passengers, they'll probably arrive at their destination after putting up with the scrutiny. The alternatives are a waste of time for everyone or the risk of hijackers & bombers.
63. #56 WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ?
MR CYNIC ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (03.08.14)
Do you honestly want israeli security personnel at Ben-Gurion to greet passengers with " y'all have a nice day now' or similar nonsense? israeli security only need to prevent terror ,they are not obliged to engage in meaningless pleasantries nor small -talk .Please be realistic. And the middle east aint California .
64. Really?
Ehud   (03.08.14)
In Israel questioning is usually reasonable, you don't have to remove shoes, belts, or fluids, and in most cases you are through in 5 minutes. Agents are typically polite and humane. Once in a while there are idiots, but they are certainly everywhere. At Lufthansa flights from Tel Aviv to Frankfurt 5 year olds and 85 year olds are body-searched with the same intensity as single-traveling males in their thirties. Does that make sense? And would you ever try to make a harmless joke with a TSA agent? Probably not, you'd be too afraid to end up with a rectal exam.
65. Its more about harassment than security
legolas ,   Israel   (03.08.14)
after all how many times have journalists and other fools managed to get guns and odd packages through security without any sort of problem? or are all of you high & mighty security experts forgetting about that?
66. Last time I flew out of Israel
Non Jewish immigrant ,   Haifa   (03.08.14)
Last January I flew out of Israel. Already the stupid dumb girl who screened me was confused because on my 8 years old passport I don't wear glasses and now I do wear glasses. She straight away agressed me by saying I'm not the one on the passport. She then sent me to luggage checking and when they opened my luggage they found a huge kaffiyeh I got from a friend in Jerusalem. The tresor of the century. That was so funny to see all the staff moving around like flies and literally losing their time on a piece of fabric. They thought I would lose my temper but as I could see their puzzled and annoyed faces, it was rather them who were losing their temper. The BGA security staff is mainly composed by kids who have no idea about what they have to do when confrontrated to specific situations. They are like robots and they can't even realise it
67. After missing Malaysian plane with 2 passengers on stolen
ab   (03.08.14)
passes the "discussion" should cease-it's not enough just to look at pass, obviously . Good wok BG,don't be swayed by supporters of terror wanting to have free pass
68. I've had the same experience as 9
Ariel ,   Israel   (03.08.14)
on three different occasions (twice from European cities and once from the far east) just prior to boarding ELAL flights to Israel. I and several others were asked: 1. what country were you born in? 2. where is the passport for the that country? All of us, asked to see the Menahel Toran - Bitachon (duty manager for security) and when he finally swaggered over we all stood our ground by asking: "If we are going to Israel what is the precise reason for asking for other passports?" He gave some story about it being an order from the SHABACH (ISA) and we all answered: "ok arrest us for attempting to enter Israel on an Israeli passport" That ended the whole thing and we boarded the plane. So 25, 57, and 61 me thinks you owe # 9 an apology.
69. I was booted back to USA from whence I came.
Grace ,   USA   (03.09.14)
And I'm not of Arab decent nor pro-Pal. I came to volunteer to help the homeless, teach English, and study for a seminar. I was searched as was my luggage, photo taken and finger printed too as well as yelled at by customs. I've been praying for this customs agent. I still love Israel and all Israelis, even the one who may have been having a miserable day. Hope it goes better next time. I pray daily for Israel and want to help in anyway possible.
70. I've had rough and easy transitions through airports
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (03.09.14)
I fly with two passports one from each of my home countries. I've never had an impolite inquiry from any personnel at any airport. Though on occasion things are pretty foolish. I had an air filter that I was transporting from the US to Tel Aviv because my roommate was a prolific smoker. Having a 6 hour stop in Frankfurt I left the airport and came back only to be pulled out of the security line and asked to wait separately from those boarding the El Al flight. After most people had passed through screening a security person walked through the crowd of people cradling the filter in her arms. So my question: if you thought it dangerous why walk through the crowd of passengers. If you thought it innocent why question me at all about it? I assumed it was just something strange you didn't understand so I did my best to explain it. And security was apparently satisfied. Not the brightest way to handle this situation.
71. Fly in and out on Saturday, it's pleasant then.
Michael ,   California, USA   (03.09.14)
When the workers aren't stressed by the crowds at the airport, they become much more civilized. From my experience in the last few years, it is best to pass through the BGA on Saturday. Of course, you need to use airline different than El Al then and the state of Israel loses business that way on its flag airline. Should we say Israel is shooting itself in its foot?
72. #2
Alan ,   Israel   (03.09.14)
Grow up you soft sod! When I lived in the UK, men had balls. I'm sure you would point your finger at Ben Gurion if your loved ones ended up the target of terrorists. I applaud the airport security. Yes, it is time consuming but necessary.
73. Send 'em to Malaysia
Good timing Ynet -)   (03.09.14)
together with a Ynet crew of course Thank Gd for our security If Ynet objects, then it must be good
74. Ben Gurion security
Tay Green ,   Modi'in Israel   (03.09.14)
Maybe they should adopt Israeli techniques in Malaysia
75. What do you suppose ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.10.14)
..... would have happened -- or NOT have happened -- had Logan International Airport in Boston ethnically profiled all potential passengers, and singled out suspect ethnicities for special attention?
