In the last decade it seems there's a new historical narrative going around with the Palestinians. This time Palestine borders exactly on Israel's modern borders to the inch, from Eilat and the negev up until the Lebanese border and from the sea to the west and the Jordan river to the east. Quite the coincidence! Only several eyars ago they were still claiming Jordan as well, as part of the British mandate. Thus, their "remaining 22%" would actually be around 3% as 88% of the mandate was Jordan. I suppose this new narrative is meant to appease the king of Jordan and not inflame the Palestinian majority there. Certainly not after the massacre of Black September that saw tens of thousands of Palestinians butchered and exiled after a failed coup d'tat, led by Arafat no less who claimed that "the liberation of Palestine starts with Jordan". The 78% of Palestine Abbas talks about is the land Israel captured in 1948 and now makes up the so called green line. The other 22% is the land taken in 1967 from Jordan. Israel has already given up around 80% of biblical Judea to create Jordan which was illegally created by the British when against the terms of their League of Nations mandate they imported a Saudi prince then they took a large chunk of the land set aside to be the Jewish homeland and made it his kingdom. If you go into a bookstore you will find arab history books in the fiction section.
