1. You are Pampered Elitists
Yisroel ,   USA   (09.13.14)
As an ex US Army Counter Intelligence Agent I feel I have much to contribute. I f anyone pulled what you and yours did in the US Army you would be digging 6 ft. x6 x6 holes in the ground and refilling them and after that would be on KP from 4AM to 12midnight. You people should learn that you can't win wars by running a debating society. Your enemy is waiting to cut your throat.
2. the 43 should not serve
hy   (09.13.14)
they should be heard, discharged dishonorably, never be taken back and penalized in some way. They haven't really understood jewish history and what happens when jews do not fight for their rights. Some jews like them and others are not fighters, can never be and should not be brought into fighting roles. They can be press officers like haber or oren.
3. Thank you.
mike o'diomasaigh ,   USA   (09.13.14)
well done.
4. A matter of time bf Israel victimhood bs shattered
lydia ,   Brisbane   (09.13.14)
No free thinking individual can be hooked on the Jewish narrative for long.
5. They make me proud to derive from Israel.
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.13.14)
They are the conscience of Israel, its moral beauty and strength. Without them Israel would not be worth supporting as a country even though we continue to love individuals within Israel. In other words, they are the cement that keeps Israel together while in reality the country is disintegrating.
6. It is scarring to work in military intelligence. My father
Rivkah   (09.13.14)
worked in G-2 US Army Intelligence and retired a Colonel in 1963. He said, "Spying is a dirty business." He was so scarred by it that he would walk out of the room when "A Man From Uncle" or other spy TV program came on the air. That is the price of protecting the nation: people in intelligence work don't sleep well and are emotionally scarred when mistakes happen and even when mistakes don't happen. So it is a good idea for Israeli intelligence people to take 3 mg Melatonin for sleep. It is a natural hormone that also pulls out fluoride from the body. But to refuse to do what is required of them instead of requesting a transfer to another aspect of military service is to ask to go to prison. Refusing lawful orders is a criminal offense in some countries and a death penalty offense in times of war in other countries.
7. My congratulations to these very brave
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.13.14)
and sincere people. "I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Actually in this case I do understand the remarks made by the signatories and can identify with them. It is not easy to take an unpopular stance because of moral or ethical beliefs.
8. More to elite units than self-advancement
Alon   (09.13.14)
They should have left 8200 while still serving in Savir, but that would not have played as well on their resume which was their true motivation
9. Israel never occupied another's land in 4,000 years.
BUTSeriously ,   Sydney   (09.13.14)
Shame on calling Muslims as Palestinians - a totally false genocidal premise. Israel's borders start at the Balfour lines - Jordan is an illegal settlement.
10. we need more and more like them
Michael ,   Haifa   (09.13.14)
I totally identify with them. Acts like that restore my hopes for a decent future. On the other hand, people like Lydia #4, who ooze with consistent and unwavering hatred towards ALL Israelis, is a cause for concern. We must be wary of degenerates such as herself.
11. Money matters!!
Dr. Jack   (09.13.14)
I do not know what everyone from the 43 thinks, but I suspect some have achieved great careers from the knowledge acquired in the unit, and would prefer to make more money in the private sector, rather than serve for a few months as reservists. Here is an idea: Don't want to serve in the unit, it's OK!! But go and clean the toilets for those who serve!! It would cleanse not only your conscience, but the washrooms as well, and serve a purpose!! Be ready by tomorrow morning 6AM!! And no censorship, please!!
12. What courage.
nibor ,   israel   (09.13.14)
The Jewish Homeland is not just about Israel's physical existance but it's existance as a "Jewish" people. If we engage in such cynical practices and accept them, and give ourselves kudos for being the most caring army in the world then we are besmirching thousands of years of ethical development. Do we have a right to do that? We are only a few generations of Jewish people; we have an obligation to protect who we are for the many generations who died to preserve these principals. Parents of soldiers: do you want your children bearing the guilt of politicians, military opportunitists staying on the top of the ladder who do not carry the consequences of such actions themselves? And as for those of you screaming "dirty lefties", who needs you. If we do not support and respect these few, then we have become an unworthy people.
13. Pathetic and disgusting as all those
DT ,   TA Israel   (09.13.14)
pre tense Left wing are. Send them to the Border fence with Gaza and there they stay till they see the light-if they ever do.
14. Sleeping at night
JAS ,   Uk   (09.13.14)
See how well they sleep at night when bombs start going off again on buses, in pubs and shopping malls. The work they do is necessary as long as those on the other side seek to harm Israel.
15. Talking with a deserter
Ronnie ,   Australia   (09.13.14)
Was shopping this morning in a massive up market mall. An Israeli company was selling stuff. One of the staff said he ran away from the IDF when in Gaza. In the Australian Army we call that being a deserter , amount other things. If Australia was under attack from rocket fire no fucking man would desert his post. No fucking man would run away when women and children where under rocket and mortar fire, let alone death squads infiltrating. I support Israel but to day I felt cheated. Ask any Aussie digger what a Jackman is.
16. letter of the 43 officers of the IDF
SylvioA DickJ ,   Pelotas, Brazil   (09.13.14)
It's a very sad situation in all senses, however one could expect something like that, sooner or later. Unfortunately, people who have learned TO THINK (as Hannah Arendt would say), even under bad conditions, are always a minority. But the "lessons of history" are there to be learned. And they are learned.
17. # 9 Be careful
Stan ,   Israel   (09.13.14)
You base your concept on the understanding that David captured Jerusalem 3100 years ago, and built a kingdom which lasted about 300 years. On the same standing, all of Australia belongs to the Aborigines. As for the Balfour Declaration, read it again! It clearly states that HM Government eyes with favor "The establishment of a Jewish Homeland IN Palestine on condition that it does not harm the rights of the other groups living in Palestine. THERE IS NO REFERENCE TO BORDERS. No state in the world, not even Israel's best friends consider Judea, Samaria and Gaza to be part of Israel. So get serious and start calling the locals what they call themselves ........ PALESTINIANS.
18. # 9 Your ignorance is appalling!
Stan ,   Israel   (09.13.14)
3500 years ago the Israelites crossed the Jordan from the East led by Joshua. God promised them that all the land from "the great river" (the Nile) to the Euphrates would be theirs - (See Deuteronomy) They had to fight many tribes living in the land, the first was against the city of Jericho. (See Book of Joshua) All the land they captured, was lived upon, including Jerusalem. Many religious Jews see God's promise to Moses as the basis for the continued occupation of Judea and Samaria. PS Before anyone decides to tell me where to go, know this - I and my children and grandchildren, have only Israeli citizenship, and have no intention of going anywhere else. It's time that our government finally understood, that the only solution to the conflict is to negotiate with our neighbors the establishment of a Palestinian State alongside Israel.
19. We found the enemy. It is us.
I. Barr MD ,   Michigan   (09.13.14)
The letter was specifically timed to come ahead of UN Israel war crime investigation giving ammunition to the committee which is anti Israel and pro Hamas. It is success of radical Left teachers in Israeli universities to brain wash Israeli students. Hundreds of Israeli government paid professors for years advocate destruction of Israel from within. Jane Fonda Stockholm syndrome, rewarded money deal provided by countries such as UK, Norway, Holland, New Israel Fund, etc. who give millions to Be'tselem, Shomrim Shtika, etc., taking advantage of Israel democracy. The moral elite agrees to go to the gas chambers just to prove that they are honest and conduct a politically correct war. Struggle with Hamas which does not accept humanitarian, UN or international war rules, seems to be for Israeli dissidents an exercise in humanity, a one way road even if it leads destruction of Israel society and state. Criticism, Yes, we all accept, but it has to be evidence based, fair, balanced, responsible and allow discussion and criticism. Sending a letter to the most virulent anti Israel, anti Semitic paper The Guardian, is a new low. Israel did not learn from ISIS/Hamas that Palestinians want to kill Jews and this is the reason that 61% of them in West Bank favor Hamas. Must read JACKIE MASON answers to the Israeli who lost their mind
20. a jew without a coutry think about it
miriam ,   israel   (09.13.14)
21. The so called "Leftism" is a deadly anomaly of the
(09.13.14)
functioning brain. Sometimes it manifests itself as religious martyrdom as well. Part of our psychological make up, just that in some young, impressible kids, it can be challenged into outbursts of "rebellion". Nothing to lose sleep over. All the people commenting on the "nobility" of this endeavor (assuming you're over 25) are either antisemites, hating Israel or irreparable idiots and that is also nothing that alarming! Cheers for our democracy and a pointing finger to our educational system: failed grades ,not Minister?
22. All large organisations need to check themselves constantly
Shachar ,   Eilat   (09.13.14)
In secret organisations this is doubly true. Obviously those serving feel it is not functioning as it should be. With that they need to understand that intelligence is not an exact science and that the moral judgement calls are not theirs to make. They should only refuse orders that are blatantly illegal. Moral dilemmas are sorted out in the political arena. I would suggest that refusing to serve is unwarranted and probably detrimental to their cause. Bringing the relevant information to the publics attention is the only step needed to fulfill your duties as citizens.
23. Following orders.....
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (09.13.14)
......absolves one from questioning morality, doesn't it? So, let's get rid of the entire concept of war crimes. No such thing, because following orders is paramount, and not following orders is treason.
24. a caring army???????
chip ,   spain   (09.13.14)
there is not one caring army that exists. All those who support bloodshed are a shame to mankind.
25. Micah7 5:8 and the enemies will come from their own house
Deborah ,   Jerusalem   (09.13.14)
Erev rav-always wanted to convert to judaism when it was good to us and caused troubles when we really needed them
26. THE FLIP SIDE
YMBMY ,   Modiin, Israel   (09.13.14)
The flip side is that if these individuals don't do the intelligence, innocent Israeli civilians are (G-d forbid) killed. It is a shame that these individuals think they know more than their supervisors. The should be summarily dismissed for insubordination.
27. To the 8200 unit +t/b's - one word - survival
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (09.13.14)
Survival the fittest - the only philosophy you need to know in times of war. If this unit had been living in the south during all the rockets, maybe then they would know their priorities. Who would they prefer to protect ? Their families or the innocent casualties from war ? Survival is the bottom line
28. guilty
linda ,   Paris, France   (09.13.14)
Now they can feel guilty and don't sleep because many people will not have the courage to ask for medical aid in Israel and many will be persecuted only because they are patients. Power abuse is always a risk, but targeted killings had contribute to finish Protective Edge Operation and save civilians both sides.
29. Stasi
linda ,   Paris, France   (09.13.14)
There is no comparison between Stasi and Israel. Stasi spied people to control "dangerous ideas". Israel try to control really dangerous behavior. About intelligence services, Israel didn't invent anything, all countries do the same, and it's one of the paradoxes we have : be ethical without being suicidaire.
30. Article is meant to confuse....
History nut ,   Rehovot   (09.13.14)
What it wants you to think, IMO, is that these self styled refuseniks have more conscience than the rest of Israel, that they are trying to head off what happened in WWII Germany. But the analogy breaks down at the beginning as those observing can read history and see the Jordanian attack in 1967. The hope was to wipe out every Israeli. Now since we didn't drive out the murderers and even supply them with food and water we are to blame for these morally weak minds that forgive murderers.
