1. Jewish nationhood bill
Mordechai ,   beit Shemesh   (11.23.14)
Very simple, the Right, to the detriment of the Nation as a whole is hell bent on isolating and destroying the Country. The curse of the Modern Age, Totalitarianism.
2. education
charles   (11.23.14)
this bill has nothing to do with religion. judaism is not a religion. it is a nation. i question if the people who opposed this bill are realy zionists. i dare not say that they are not. i just question their logic. every nation has a right to call themselves what they are. if we do not have this bill, why hbother having a jewish state? on the contrary, if we do not have this bill, we will be racist! this bill makes israel the jwish nation state!!
3. Separate state from religion
David Heartman ,   USA   (11.23.14)
4. Back to basics
Mark ,   London, UK   (11.23.14)
How about looking again at the fundamental Balfour Declaration? 1. establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people. Not in all of Palestine which at that time included what is now Jordan - the bits west of the Jordan are still open for discussion. 2. nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine 3. nothing shall be done which may prejudice the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.
5. JEWISH LAW MEANS RABBINIC TAKEOVER OF ISRAEL.
stude ham   (11.23.14)
THIS IS AN ENORMOUS BLUNDER.
6. Superfluous legislation
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (11.23.14)
Completely superfluous and also dangerous. Fast forward 50 years or so......Netanyahu and his cronies are long gone. In their place is a majority haredi government. The stipulation of basing new legislation on Jewish law will then be well received and the result will be an halachic state. Netanyahu just opened the door to all that madness. Meanwhile of course Israel will have abandoned all pretense of being modern and democratic with a whole stack of second-class citizens who don't belong to the correct bloodline. How can such a nation function in the western 21st century world?
7. CONTROVERSIAL
Robert ,   Israel   (11.23.14)
Nothing is static in this world. What might have been good fifty years ago, o even yesterday, might not be the be the same good option for to-day. Israel must adapt itself to actual and future threats and situations, like it or not.
8. Be consistent.
Brad ,   USA   (11.23.14)
If you denounce this legislation, that's OK. But then stand up and denounce the surrounding Muslim nations for calling themselves Muslim nations. Anyone not willing to be consistent, should be quiet.
9. Hope that Bibi's Jewish Land will
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (11.23.14)
provide the opportunity to be more Jewish. To the naysayers: during hundreds of centuries ,Jews were faithful sheep surrounded by wolves... and survived. That says something about the benefit of adopting the Tora laws. Shavuah Tov.
10. well done !
jew ,   europe   (11.23.14)
israel is only one place for jew only one home in all other coutries poople hate us and want to see us death so wh do u have agaist this law? in every "democratic " countries it is the same one nation , one langage and if more langueages still one nation
11. The Whole Thing is Ridiculous
Ariel ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (11.23.14)
B"H - Non Torah institutions like secular government and kneset per definition can't decide that they are "Jewish": They aren't. Torah makes us Jewish, not empty proclamations!
12. Empty law?
robert ,   Antwerpen Belgium   (11.23.14)
What are the consequences and what is the intention of this law? Will it make all those who are not Jewish according to orthodox Jewish law second class citizens? Or will the line be drawn according to liberal conversions? What about Christians, Muslims, Druze Israƫli citizens? Does it mean that the law of the Thora will become the civil law of the country? Frankly, although I'm a practicing Jew, I don't see the logic of that law. Can somebody explain?
13. Netanyuo doesn't read my talk back's I am sure
JJJ   (11.23.14)
Netanyuo doesn't read my talk back's I am sure, but if he would have read my talk back's he would known (I am sure he knew it any way) that I wrote many times that Tzipi Livni is a serial back stabber, from prime ministers to her won previous parties. She has one priority in her life, and for this she will step on any body in her way, even in the cost of endangering the country. Her goal is clear; One, to unseat a elected prime minister (not the first one) and taking his place with a strong blessing of the Americans and the Europeans. Second, Nobel Prize. Netanyuo I told you so many times (at least in talk back's that you probably never see)
14. Re-confirming an established fact
Anthony David Marks ,   Israel   (11.23.14)
For millennium, Israel or the Holy Land has always been the home of the Jewish people. All attempts to mix and muddle this fact will not alter it.. PM Bibi Netanyahu .has merely confirmed the obvious, the historical truth. Anyone who cannot understand this should not be taken seriously. They should join the 'Flat Earth Society' where they rightfully belong..
15. Leftists would rather destroy this country than be Jewish!!!
Moshele   (11.23.14)
They should all move back to Europe.
16. "the Jewish character of the state".. got to sleep on it.
Miron ,   USA   (11.24.14)
On one hand Israel is a Jewish state. There can be no question about it. On the other hand... it might end up as non Jewish or "not just Jewish" in the end. In the end the dream was that all the people have their way in Israel and. The question is finding it. This does not sounds in unison with Torah. It does feel a cowardly political trade. I don't think I need to sleep on it. This is no go.
