15 Talkbacks for this article
1. Israelis face a clear choice
Mark Jeffery Koch ,   Mt Laurel, NJ USA   (12.04.14)
Israelis have a choice between three visions of their future.....Labor's vision of a two State solution and an end to the Israeli Palestinian conflct, the right wing's vision of continued occupation and expropriation of land which will result in the acceptance worldwide of the boycott and divestiture movement, or Netanyahu's vision which is to do nothing for the future of Israel and to be so obsessed with staying in power that he will lie and promise anything to everyone just so he can stay in office. The status quo is not acceptable to anyone anywhere in the world and should not be to most Israelis.
2. Mark #1, never mind visions. Let's talk reality.
Jake   (12.05.14)
Labor's "Oslo" vision produced thousands of dead Israelis, empowerment of its enemies, and a deepening of the conflict, while putting even Jerusalem on the table. They won't be given another chance by the voters, and no amount of outside meddling and pressure is going to change the fact, so don't bother.
3. Another Associated Press screed coopted by Ynet
Jake   (12.05.14)
This article reeks of the usual weasel words and distortions one finds in the media these days concerning Israel. Too bad Ynet gets others to do its dirty work.
4. # 1,
Stan ,   Israel   (12.05.14)
Bravo !
5. With friends like this...
Robert ,   New Jersey, USA   (12.05.14)
Bibi, you have nothing to worry about. Obama has put his Iranian-born Rasputina Susan Rice in charge of defeating you. She is the architect of the stupid, failed Benghazi coverup. With that kind of talent working against you, you are assured an overwhelming victory.
6. Lieberman's piece plan
David   (12.05.14)
There is nothing new about Lieberman's plan-- neither the plan, or the fact that Lieberman supports it. He has been talking about this for at least a decade-- albeit more prominently before he helped Olmert establish a government. Only those with poor memories, and those who don't pay attention, can conclude that it is somehow new. The truth is that Lieberman is hardly a traditional Israeli Zionist. That doesn't mean that he can't play a supportive role in a Zionist government, like the last two. Politics is the art of the possible, and no politician is perfect-- but I would submit that the best of all alternatives is a Netanyahu government. He is the only one capable of standing up to anti-Zionist pressure.
7. To Mark Jeffrey Koch
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (12.05.14)
What is "Labor's vision" in your "book"...Israeli Labor party members are not as delusional, as you a your cohorts imagine...? The choice's you are trying to suggest, have been applied numerous times by Israel, achieving nothing, but further intensified terror and increased demands via our sworn enemies...And if you don't like Netanyahu, this is another proof, that He is doing something good...
8. the most crucial issue is security
CJK   (12.05.14)
israel is faced with a huge security threat on all sides. any candidate who is inexperienced in matters of security is not qualified for the position of prime minister. obama and the europeans are largely indifferent to israel's security threat. indeed, they are convinced that the creation of a new terror state will solve the entire problem of jihadi terror. they are highly mistaken.
9. 1 your illusion
CJK   (12.05.14)
your assumption that the arab palestinians want an end to the conflict is not supported by facts. abbas does not even acknowledge jewish ancestral ties to the land of israel. the palestinian authority's news outlets and education programs constantly incite against israel and jews.
10. This may be the last chance.....
Dan M ,   USA   (12.05.14)
for Israel's voters to elect a leader that cares only about Israel and it's citizens and does not bow to the wishes of politicians and world leaders whose main objective is the defeat of Israel. Remember that countries in the region only fear strength and look at appeasement as weakness. A weak Israel will invite annihilation. Does Israel have such a leader ?
11. Those in the know...
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.05.14)
Listen to those who really know what is going on, people: "...all six of the former heads of the Shin Bet security service living at the time criticized the West Bank occupation. The most recently retired Shin Bet chief, Yuval Diskin, has been scathing in his attacks on Netanyahu. "
12. NON -belligerant
ZECHARIAH   (12.05.14)
The great block is verification of non belligerency of an arab state .Will the Jews trust the USA to secure the Jordan Valley and supress Jihadi or Baath -Fatah terror .Possibly 505 of Judea and Samariah could be leased to the Arabs but will they accept such an interim Autonomy with a Flag Anthem and Seat in the UN .Large parts of the West Bank will have to remain unoccupied and fallow awaiting progression on coexistence.
13. I tend to disbeleive those that promise, promises are
barbara ,   Haifa   (12.05.14)
so misleading.
14. J&S isn't subsidized more than Galille,Negev
Poorly written   (12.05.14)
The author of this article (Dan Perry) doesn't know the Israeli economy. He writes about things he knows very little about. J&S town do not get more benefits than Upper Galilee or Negev towns. Among the main reasons to the high cost of living in Israel is the inefficient and small local market and the large government debt.
15. A big Arab turnout will not mean much
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.05.14)
A big Arab turnout will not mean much. A couple of more seats in the Knesset will not bring them into the government. What would help them is a change in political line from anti- Israel extremism to support for improved economic and social conditions for their community. But don't look for that Unfortunately the Palestinian political reality is ruled by the principle that whoever is more extreme and unreasonable is preferred.
