I am in favor of the death penalty for terrorists, but beware: many states in the US have the death penalty for some crimes, but those crimes are still being committed. I don't know how much of a deterrent death is for someone looking to die anyway, especially someone that has been brainwashed into believing they are on a divine mission and their people will revere them for being killed. This raises the possibility of actually INCREASING the number of terrorist acts committed against innocent Israelis. maybe if you called the crime what it was, premeditated homicide, removing any religious zeal from the act and then actually carrying out the sentence will be a deterrent.. The death penalty does not deter anyone from anything. This has been proven time and time again. This is most especially true when the perpetrator does not fear death. So why does Lieberman suggest this. To get votes for sure but having no answer to the problem he then invokes what he thinks is the ultimate deterrent and the biggest headline. The death penalty is (A) immoral by any standards and; (B) achieves absolutely nothing, other than vengeance. It is not a deterrent. You just have to look at the evidence in those Arab countries that do practice it and are plagued by non-stop terrorism.
