1. Alienation
Jez ,   Netanya   (08.13.15)
This is just another successful example of Netanyahus attempt to alienate Jews especially younger Jews from Israel as he has done already in the USA and the UK. He is either trying to do what others have done and destroy the Jewish people or he is not clever enough to understand the consequences of his actions or utterances, and neither it appears are several of his ministers.
2. They're absolutely right
Vlad   (08.13.15)
Had this been a regular Italian Jew who moved to Israel, there would be no problem with this. But here is someone who was elected to high office in Italy, and is now willing to give up her Italian citizenship so she can serve Israel as a foreign ambassador in Italy. This will serve the cause of those seeking to prove Jewish dual loyalty more than any antisemitic rant or publication could dream of.
3. we are not enemies
Moises chocron ,   venezuela   (08.13.15)
Italy and Israel Are not enemies any jew could by israeli ambasador we first are jewish second other nacionality Whats problem. The pope is argentinian and now is vaticanian why nobody ask that question or when hitler born in Austria nobody ask for this mamzer. We have to be firm in our identity we are jew first that is true every body look at us as Israel People
4. Prime Minister Mr. Netanyahu erred, Italian-Jewry is correct
Jew-C ,   JewLandia (Israel)   (08.13.15)
It is one of the least enlightened decisions Prime Minister Mr. Netanyahu has made in the past few years. What's next? Will he appoint the convicted traitor Jonathan Pollard as Ambassador to the United States? The only good thing here is that Italian Jewry now knows that Prime Minister Mr. Netanyahu IS COMPLETELY UNINTERESTED IN THEIR WELFARE. That is they will know what French Jewry knew instinctively when after Prime Minister Mr. Netanyahu's peculiar words to them (after the Hyper-Kol terror attack), they French Jewry responded by singing their national anthem "La Marseillaise." (and before all of you Americans get "your knickers in a twist" (aka "your panties in a bunch") ... let me just ask you - what national anthem do you sing at your AIPAC etc, etc Ad Nauseam meeting?)

6. #4 , you betray your true colors by fudging the facts
Jake   (08.14.15)
"Will he appoint the convicted traitor Jonathan Pollard as Ambassador to the United States?" Convicted traitor? Start by checking your facts. Jonathan Pollard was neither tried nor convicted for treason. The charge was espionage. By deliberately fudging that basic fact, the question begs itself whose agenda you actually serve.
7. This has been a

trend with this PM. By appointing a former Republican operative in the United States as the Israeli ambassador to the US, he has damaged severely the bipartisan that Israel has relied on since its inception. The scorched earth tea party approach has now been ingrained into Israeli foreign affairs, and some still wonder how Israel can engender opprobrium for its policies.

If some Italian Jews are worried about the appointment then they should leave Italy for safer havens. The person appointed has perfect qualifications for being Ambassador. In America the issue of dual loyalty of Americans whom have made aliyah and served as Israeli ambassadors or have been in the Kennest. has not been brought up. That type of tactic reeks of anti semitism fears. Golda Meir was a American citizen. This is pure hogwash. This is not the first or last time that a Jewish person has renounced citizenship of one country to become a citizen of Israel and serve in its government. That sick minded people make an issue of it is distrubing. Israel has strong relations with Italy and they have chosen someone who is extremely active in Jewish matters obviously speaks Italian and obviously knows the ways of the Italian people. That some people make issues of loyalty of Jews acting this way will never change. It is a purely anti semtic act, and we can not live in fear of these statements. Where can you find someone more qualified to be Ambasador then her to Italy.

FYI, plenty of American non-Jewish spies, who did far more damage to American national security than Pollard, did far less time. I guess when it comes to that line of work, Jews never made it to the "old boys' club".
12. #10, Blame the Jew
Jake   (08.15.15)
Of course Zalman Shapiro was blamed, because he was a Jew and a Zionist. The facts will never deter those looking for a way to pin the blame on the Jew, no matter how unjustly, just like with Dreyfus. "In his 1991 book, The Samson Option, Seymour Hersh concluded that Shapiro did not divert any uranium; rather "it ended up in the air and water of the city of Apollo as well as in the ducts, tubes, and floors of the NUMEC plant."He also wrote that Shapiro's meetings with senior Israeli officials in his home were related to protecting the water supply in Israel rather than any diversion of nuclear material or information.[17] A later investigation was conducted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (successor to the AEC) regarding an additional 198 pounds of uranium that was found to be missing between 1974 and 1976, after the plant had been purchased by Babcock & Wilcox and Shapiro was no longer associated with the company. That investigation found that more than 110 pounds of it could be accounted for by what was called "previously unidentified and undocumented loss mechanisms", including "contamination of workers' clothes, losses from scrubber systems, material embedded in the flooring, and residual deposits in the processing equipment." Hersh further quoted one of the main investigators, Carl Duckett, as saying "I know of nothing at all to indicate that Shapiro was guilty." Later U.S. Department of Energy records show that NUMEC had the largest highly enriched uranium inventory loss of all U.S. commercial sites, with a 269 kilograms (593 lb) inventory loss before 1968, and 76 kilograms (168 lb) thereafter." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zalman_Shapiro
13. #9 Phil You miss the point
Vlad   (08.14.15)
This was more than just an ordinary Italian Jew. She is a former member of the Italian Parliament. Just imagine if a Jewish Congressman had made aliyah, renounced his US citizenship, and became Israeli Ambassador to the US. Ordinary citizens can do this. But what does it say when a former elected official, whose job was to serve the interests of Italy, shows that she's more loyal to Israel instead? All the dual loyalty accusations (including claims that Jewish Congressmen have dual Israeli citizenship) are proven "true". If a Jew is more loyal to Israel and wants to serve in government, they should go to Israel and serve. NOBODY has any business serving in elected high office when their real loyalty lies elsewhere.

Alberto Verri ,   Fall River NS canada   (08.16.15)
with respect to the professional standing of the appointed ambassador to the Republic of Italy, i agreed with the italian Jewish communnity, it is not appropriate.
15. Wow, dual loyalty issue again ,...
split ,   US   (08.16.15)
Like this is something we haven't see before - For instance Michael Oren, born and educated in US served in IDF and nominated (also by Bibi) as an Israeli ambassador to US. By the way there's no such a thing like dual loyalty either you're loyal to one person/entity or you're not. Tell your spouse; honey I have someone on the side but I'm loyal to you and call me.

17. Good for Fiamma Nirenstein
Tova ,   Canada   (08.17.15)
Netanyahu made the right decision. She is familiar with Italy. This is common practice for all nations to appoint someone from a country they have lived. The Jews in Italy should be grateful. Also the Jews in Italy should be aware just because they live in Italy doesn't mean they are protected by the Italian government in times of terrorism. How quickly have they forgotten what happened in France. Natanyahu is right.
18. split#16, because those were the official verdicts
Jake   (08.18.15)
in the respective countries where they were tried and convicted. And why on earth should I question the official verdicts simply because some Jew-hating antisemitic neo-Nazi scumbags are unhappy with them? By the way Vanunu converted to Anglicanism simply out of contempt and spite for Israel and the Jewish people, and to get outsiders to intervene on his behalf. That says it all, really.
19. #13, Vlad, that argument is inadmissible
Jake   (08.18.15)
The argument of dual loyalty would have been valid had Nirenstein retained Italian citizenship, but she will hold only hold Israeli citizenship as Israel ambassador to Italy. As Italian MP, she held only Italian citizenship, and the only valid criteria for assessing her worth as Italian civil servant is her performance during the time that she was an MP, not her later decisions. I have not heard any official criticism from the Italian authorities about the appointment of Nirenstein as Israeli ambassador. All host countries have to vet and approve new ambassadors from foreign countries, and if she is approved by the Italian government, this should be regarded as a dead issue.
20. split #15, And then there's Brzezinsnski
Jake   (08.18.15)
Born in Poland, came to the US, and became Secretary of State. His personal hatred for the Soviet Union was the overriding factor in his world view, and he used his influence to push for the arming of the Mujahideen in Afghanistan to drive out the Soviets....paving the way for the rise of the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

Forza Italia indeed! PM Benjamin Netanyahu is about to travel there on his first official overnight state visit since his last election as PM. Oh, and Fiamma Nirenstein is set to be approved as ambassador, much to your chagrin. Looks like you're a little slow on the uptake.
