1. WRONG. you're under the illusion & stereotype that...
... Jews in the US and/or Israel "control everything" in the US.
Under this illusion all the Jews need to do is exert sufficient effort to "make things happen".
Wrong:
#1 The Jewish community in US is seriously split politically and religiously. Part is ultra liberal, the other is right-wing and Orthodox dominated.
They disagree on many issues including Pollard; many consider him a martyr to forces of anti-Semitism, others see him as a traitor & opportunist.
The community therefore was never in a position to exert significant pressure on Pollard's behalf. (Note how divided the Amer Jewish community was on the recent Iran nuclear deal.)
#2.
most importantly, no matter how untied the Jewish community might have been on Pollard, you grossly underestimate the bitterness of the Amer defense community toward the damage Pollard did.
Your statement "the question why Pollard was arrested is not important..." reveals a gross misunderstanding of the American political scene. Not only was it important, it was the heart of the Pollard issue.
By all accounts Pollard and his handlers did enormous and selfish damage to US defense systems. He apparently involved himself in matters well beyond those of Arab military capability.
The overall view in the US - including the Jewish community - is that Pollard and his handlers are no heroes or martyrs
The only reality is that the more Israel ditched and rebuked those involved for this gross diplomatic and strategic blunder, the better.
Unfortunately that is still not what is occurring - and Israel will continue to reap the consequences.
