Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel
Every other US Embassy in the World is in the capital city of the host nation.
So why is Jerusalem different?

TO MR. KUSHNER, please read the following that I suppose you are not aware of, and nobody will tell you: in 1924 the United States and Britain signed a treaty to guaranty the implementation of the “Mandate for Palestine”. The Mandate gave the Jewish people the irrevocable right to settle anywhere on the territory between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, including the Golan Heights, to create their independent state in formation. This right became International Law, reaffirmed by Article 80 of the UN Charter. So this right can’t be rescinded! Article VI of the U.S. Constitution labels treaties as the "Supreme Law of the Land" and instructs judges to enforce the performance of the specific obligations of the Nation's treaties:"…all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby…"Though the 1924 Anglo-American Convention expired when the Mandate for Palestine was terminated midnight May 14/15, 1948, the principle of "Acquired Legal Rights," as defined in the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, Article 70(1)(b), dictates that rights recognized and protected under a treaty do not expire or terminate when the legal instrument recognizing the rights is terminated. In other words, rights continue without end.

Be exceedingly grateful it's even on the table.

The fate of Jerusalem rests in Trump's hands.
11. What a mess !!!
Jacob Edelman ,   NYC   (12.04.17)
What a sad situation for a superpower like the United States to become embroiled in an international political storm for some political considerations that have nothing to do with national strategy or objectives.
12. What if it were all
Avi L.   (12.04.17)
What if it were all some bargaining game with some party opposed to the move?
Kind of "how much you give ME not to move the embassy, who offers more?"

With such a deal artist ... you never know.
13. Kushner wet behind the ears stability
C   (12.04.17)
kushner is following decades old us foreign policy.
he blames israel for regional instability, as did his predecessors.
he does not blame the muslims who want to destroy the jewish state.
trump's entire security team is made up of establishment figures
who continue american foreign policy since the end of wwii.
the americans remain slaves to the arabs, as do the europeans.
14. weak bibi
gerald   (12.04.17)
netanyahu and the others shows his lack of business sense vis a vis the usa. he should know that while some of trump is sympathetic to israel because of his colleagues and son in law, in the main he could care less about israel's security. israel is on its own and should behave that way to gain the most. not bibi who sweats every decision and who panders obnoxiously. as feiglin has said, israel at times will have to go its own way. not bibi who is scared stiff. how he was not thrown out of commando is hard to understand. perhaps commandier levin could amplify. he simply lacks spine so he makes endless speeeches that pander.

in this regard, he is the same as herzog and lapid who always submit to the usa. have you ever heard eiither lapid or herzog say sorry, we disagree with usa and we will protect our interests. an israel in world war ii would have had to tell britain and france, sorry, we will take on germany, 8 times bigger than us because that is the only way.

israelis should bloody well select a new leader who has some spine, not lapid or gabbay. the media attacks bennett at every turn but is it clear to all and especially comptroller shapira that it was bennett who was the leader in the gaza war, not bibi, not lapid, not herzog and livni, not yaalon and gantz. the media should tell the truth about the gaza war and stop coddling lapid and herzog.
15. bla bla bla and bullsh*t
arieh   (12.04.17)
this is what israel can expect from trump who in the end cares about usa interests and not israel's.

israel should keep quiet about building. don't announce plans. just build and shut up about it.

as for golan, bibi and levin should likewise not ask anyone for recognition. israel has it and will keep it period for ever. it has arguments but possession is 9/10ths of the law. stop asking for recognition. it can tell assad, don't bother, it is ours and we will destroy you if you attempt to take it.

as for possible palestinian state in sinai which has some merit. with saudi and gulf support, a strip of sinai can be purchased to expand gaza with beautiful seaside country. all palestinians can then move there. international communnity can help build infrastructure. forget about 12% of west bank for israel or giving away some of negev. isael cannot afford loss of any more land.

however, it should reclaim land of reuben gad and menassah on east bank as they were israeli, part of san remo. jordan could trade it if it understands israeli power.

enough of wimpish israeli leaders from olmert, livni, ramon, herzog, and now gabbay.
16. absolutely fascinating this exercise in raw true power
Cameron   (12.04.17)
Both friends & enemies can but helplessly watch and wait for one man to lay down a final verdict on the standing & future of Jerusalem.
