HADERA - A teenage suspected of grand theft told police interrogators Sunday he made aliya from Ethiopia in order to "kill cops, to hurt them and to rattle them."
Despite his youth, the suspect is well known to police. He has a long record of property crimes, disturbing the peace and violence.
Following his testimony, the Hadera Magistrates Court extended his remand for three days.
Second arrest in a week
Last week the youth was arrested on suspicion he stole a moped. The moped's owner tracked the vehicle to youth's neighborhood, but he was attacked by the suspect and several friends.
According to testimony, during the attack a bicycle was thrown through the windscreen of the man's car.
The youth then attacked officers responding to the incident. According to police, he threatened to shoot them and the police station.
He was then arrested and held in custody for several days before being released by order of the court.
Red-handed
This Sunday, officers again encountered the youth. Hadera Police Chief Boaz Goldberg said the officers were called to the city's poverty-stricken "Sela" neighborhood following reports that TV's and stereos had been stolen from youth centers in town.
Goldberg said the suspect was "caught red-handed" as he sold the stolen goods to a resident of East Jerusalem, and that he once again attacked officers as he was being arrested.
After containing the suspect, he admitted under interrogation to breaking into the youth centers, to stealing the goods, and to eight more similar incidents.
Afterwards, said Goldberg, he outlined his world view to police, as well as his goal of hurting cops
