The police will raise their alert to the highest level on Sunday, for fear Palestinians will attempt to carry out terror attacks in Israel. The decision to boost alert was made following an evaluation of the situation conducted in wake of the IDF's strikes in Gaza in the last 24 hours, and specific terror warnings, as well as routine preparations for the Passover holiday.
Following the army's assassination of terror activists in Gaza, all terror groups in the Palestinian Authority vowed to avenge the members' deaths.
The defense establishment currently has 75 general warnings on terror organizations' intentions to carry out attacks in Israel, as well as 12 specific alerts. The police will consequently boost their presence in open markets, recreation centers, near the security fence and in the Jerusalem area. Large numbers of policemen will be stationed in crowded places. During the holiday, the police will deploy in parks, recreation centers and along major traffic routes.
In the framework of these operations, checkpoints will be erected on highways leading into cities, and public and secret patrols will be reinforced as well. The general closure imposed on the West Bank and Gaza ahead of the Purim holiday will last at least until Passover is over.
