"Orders for carrying out the last attack at the old central bus station in Tel Aviv came from Damascus and a report on the execution was sent back," Olmert members of the Senate Budget Committee.
Olmert spoke with Senators about the situation in the Palestinian Authority, which is being run by Hamas. Olmert demonstrated Hamas' true nature by mentioning the appointment of a top fugitive to a top Palestinian security post.
Popular Resistance Committees Commander Jamal Abu Samhadana has been appointed as the Director-General of the Interior Ministry, which oversees Palestinian security forces.
"Israel prefers to reach an agreement with the Palestinian. It is our will and intention, but we will not wait for them forever. If the current situation continues, Israel will unilaterally set permanent borders and the Palestinians will loose a lot," Olmert said.
Olmert also spoke of the axis of evil between Syria, Iran and the Palestinian Authority.
On Thursday Senators held talks with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
The senators are in Israel for a firsthand update on Israel's security needs as the Senate is about to approve the yearly defense aid granted by the United States to the Jewish State.
Hamas blamed for attack
At a meeting convened by the PM on Tuesday morning to discuss Israel's response to Monday's suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, the Hamas-led Palestinian government was blamed.
During the meeting, it was decided not to launch a large-scale ground operation, but Olmert authorized Livni's recommendation to revoke the residency status of all ministers and members of the Palestinian parliament who are Israeli citizens – Mahmoud Abu Tir and two other parliament members.
Other decisions were taken about actual operation in the territories, which were not released for publication. It seems security forces will carry out pinpoint operation in reaction to the terror attack.
