The first state TV Channel in Ukraine, which is enjoying high popularity, is in the midst of producing a film on the life of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, born in Kiev.
The film director, journalist Layla Kirichiva, recently met representatives from the Israeli embassy and informed them that the film would focus on the realization of Golda Meir's dream: The building of an independent State of Israel.
Kirichiva noted that she would be coming to Israel to begin shooting the film in the near future. She asked the embassy for assistance in providing permits for filming at the various sites throughout Israel.
In addition, Kirichiva asked for assistance in coordinating interviews with Golda Meir's children and grandchildren who reside in Israel, as well as assistance in acquiring archival material.
The Israeli Embassy contacted the Division for Cultural and Scientific Affairs at the Foreign Ministry in a request to assist in the making of the film.
"We have an opportunity to present Israel in a new and positive light," explained Shahar Arieli from the Israeli Embassy in Kiev.
