Sunni organization in Lebanon: Prepare to confront Hizbullah

Al-Qaeda-owned group claims Hizbullah allowed international forces entry to Lebanon, trying to cause revolution and civil war

The charged atmosphere that took over Lebanon following last summer's war with Israel continued to be the source of internal conflict between political parties in the country.

An unknown organization named “Lebanon’s Mujahidin” called on Sunnis in the country to “prepare to confront the Shiites represented by Hizbullah, who want to take over all of Lebanon”.

The announcement was launched on an al-Qaeda-owned website in Iraq, and was published by the Associated French Press over the weekend.

“Hizbullah is a party. In addition to having Iranian tendencies, basis, and support, it doesn’t hide its loyalty to the Syrian regime,” the announcement explained.

“We call on our people in Lebanon to face this bitter truth with courage and to tackle this hatred by preparing for a confrontation. We won’t let them (Shiites) implement their evil wishes after they succeeded in allowing an international force enter as a buffer between us and Palestine,” the announcement continued.

The announcement even contained criticism of Hizbullah’s leaders’ political conduct and emphasized that “today they want to control all of Lebanon through an alliance with the crusaders and to eliminate the Sunni group completely. They should know we are prepared to fight them. It would be a war and we would be stronger than them.”

'Hizbullah at fault for chaos'

This was not the first time that Sunnis in Lebanon have expressed harsh sentiments towards Hizbullah. The Lebanese Mufti Sheik Muhammad Ali Al-Gozu declared that Nasrallah and his organization were working towards a revolution in Lebanon.

“Why does the minority want to force itself on the majority? Why does that minority wish to undermine the functioning of the majority? Who is behind factional plans presented as national ones, while at the same time turning the tables on everyone in order to provoke confusion and chaos in the country,” the sheikh asked.

He added, “We can in no way accept that one of Lebanon’s factions will rule alone. Can Nasrallah’s words be interpreted in such a way as to suggest he has the possibility of bringing about a resolution in the country?”

The sheikh concluded, “Everyone will find out that Iran is trying to interfere with the entire Arab arena. Why do some of them want to drag us into a blind civil war in accordance with their factional plans?”
