Shortly after Palestinians fired two Qassam rockets at southern Israel, the Israeli sir force struck two launchers in northern Gaza. The launchers were spotted east of the town of Beit Hanoun and destroyed completely; no injuries were reported.
The two rockets that were fired at Israel landed in open fields; no injuries or damage were reported. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.
The number of rockets fired from Gaza has dropped significantly in the recent period. The last Qassam landed Monday on a factory near Sderot, and caused considerable damage to the place.
Five Palestinian gunmen, all members of the Popular Resistance Committees' military wing – the Salah al-Din Brigades, were killed Wednesday during a gunfight with IDF soldiers near the border fence in the central part of Gaza. An IDF soldier was moderately injured in the incident.
The Southern Command stressed that operations aimed at protecting the border fence and the communities close to it would continue regardless of the occurrences in Gaza.
