Colonel (res) Elhanan Tennenbaum will be demoted to the rank of private, a special military committee ruled Monday.
Tennenbaum, who was captured in Dubai by Hizbullah following a drug deal he was involved in and then held by the group in Lebanon for four years, appealed the IDF's intention to demote him in a military court of appeals last month.
However, the committee decided to accept the stance of the military advocate general on the matter, in light of Tennenbaum's severe offenses, which constitute moral turpitude.
In July 2004, the Knesset approved a bill allowing the demotion of military men who committed an offense that constitutes moral turpitude, even if they were not convicted in court.
Tennenbaum said he planned to appeal the court's decision.
