New fire on Greek island kills 5, injures 2; total death toll at 56

A fire that broke out Sunday on the Greek island of Evia north of Athens killed five people and injured two more, the fire department said, bringing the total death toll in the country’s wildfires to at least 56.

Massive wildfires have been burning across Greece for three days, and the vast majority of deaths were from the Zaharo area of the Peloponnese in southern Greece. Much of southern Evia had already been consumed by massive fires over the weekend that forced the evacuation of hundreds of people. (AP)
