The tragedy occurred around 3:30 pm on the beach next to the local Achziv school. Subah and his father were reportedly standing on a jetty when the bolt struck.
Paramdics were alerted to the scene and pronounced him dead. The Nahariya police department confirmed that the death was caused by lightning and said parts of the body were badly burnt.
Paramedic Shimon Cohen said that the deceased and his father were standing on rocks, with the brother waiting in the car when the lightning "struck his right shoulder, leaving his father – standing close by – entirely unharmed." Cohen added that in all his 11 years of volunteer service, he had never seen such an event.
Throughout Israel Tuesday the weather wreaked havoc on the roads, causing several accidents. Israelis should refrain from expecting a significant change tomorrow, as meteorologists are expecting the rains to continue.
