Israeli actor Sasson Gabai was named the 2007 European Film Academy's best actor for his role in the film The Band's Visit.
Eran Kolirin, the film's director won the year's European discovery award.
Held in Berlin on Saturday, the 20th European Film Awards included 15 prizes and was hosted by French actress Emmanuelle Beart and German actor Jan Josef Liefers.
Helen Mirren was named best actress for her role as Britain's Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears' The Queen
Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore's La Sconosciuta (The Unknown) won the People's Choice Award, while the European Film Academy's prize for the best short film of 2007 went to Alumbramiento by Spanish director Eduardo-Chapero Jackson.
German director Fatih Akin's "The Edge of Heaven" Won the best screenplay award.
