Protestors urge Livni to bring Shalit home, 'and not in a casket’

Some 25 people stand outside PM-designate's Tel Aviv home, calling for kidnapped soldier’s release. ‘It's important to keep this on public agenda. This boy and his family suffer every day he is in captivity,' says protestor

Some 25 people staged a protest Friday morning outside the Tel Aviv home of prime minister-designate and Kadima Chairwoman Tzipi Livni, holdings flags and pictures of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit.

One of the participants, Hadas Ben-Porat, said that the protesters whistled and blocked the street so that Livni would take notice of them.

She indeed saw them but as opposed to last week, she did not go out and talk to them.

“I consistently attend demonstrations for the release of Gilad,” said 26-year-old Limor Arad from Tel Aviv. “I have been participating in awareness demonstrations opposite the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem for half a year.

“I think that the time has come for the Israeli government to bring Gilad Shalit back home. Too much time has passed,” she said.

“It is important to keep this on the public agenda. This boy and his family suffer every day he is in captivity and the time has come that he returns, and not in a casket,” said Arad.

Judy Arad, 54, a Kfar Saba mother of four, said that “this is the first time I come to a demonstration. The truth is that I should have come long ago. My son served like Gilad, in a tank at night. Night after night they sat and guarded at the Gaza border, in the same situation as the kidnapping.

“The feeling is that they kidnapped Gilad from a place that wasn’t guarded well and it is a miracle that it wasn’t my son. The fact that Gilad was the one kidnapped does not lesson my obligation to act for his release, and immediately,” said the emphatic mother.

“Every day I hear the number of days he has been in captivity, and it has been a long time. Each time it hurts over again. We need to do everything to release him,” said Arad.
