South under fire: Three Qassam rockets were fired Saturday from the northern Gaza Strip at southern Israeli communities. Earlier, a rocket landed in an open area near Ashkelon. No casualties or damages were reported in the attacks.
The Color Red anti-rocket alert system was activated in the Sderot area around 7 pm, moments before a Qassam landed in the vicinity. Another rocket landed near the city. A short while before that, a rocket landed in a kibbutz south of Ashkelon.
Meanwhile, sources in Gaza said that several Palestinians were hurt after the IDF fired at a target in Beit Hanoun. Palestinian sources said an IDF tank fired at the men in response to the earlier rockets fired at the Negev.
Later, the army said it targeted a rocket launching cell, wounding at least one man. The Palestinians said two men were lightly wounded.
The rocket attacks have continued despite Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh's recent reassurances that Palestinian armed groups in Gaza remain committed to the lull.
"I have met with armed factions over the past two days and they stated their position clearly: they are committed to calm as long as (Israel) abides by it," Haniyeh said Friday.
