Vietnam considers freeing inmates for Lunar New Year
Vietnamese police are reviewing applications of nearly 10,000 prisoners seeking a Lunar New Year amnesty late next month, the government said.
The crime rate among those who had been freed under Vietnam's presidential amnesties since 2000 is relatively low at 4.6%, Colonel Nguyen Van Ninh was quoted as saying in a government statement issued late on Friday. Vietnam's Lunar New Year starts on January 26. (Reuters)
