Night in Tel Aviv more costly than in Rome

Yedioth Ahronot compares prices of accommodations at prestigious Crowne Plaza Hotel branches around the world. Tel Aviv ranks below Abu Dhabi, New York, above Rome, Berlin

The Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza index placed lodging prices at the hotel's Israel branches at a good spot in the middle of the list.

The average price for a night in Crowne Plaza Tel Aviv is significantly lower than in Abu Dhabi, Moscow, New York and Paris, but higher than many major cities in the world including Berlin, Dublin, Montreal, Prague and Beijing.

The Crowne Plaza is a brand name of the Holiday Inn international hotel chain, and is rated one level above the brand Holiday Inn and one level below the Intercontinental brand.

A Yedioth Ahronoth comparison of Crowne Plaza prices around the world was carried out through the chain's website.

The prices of a standard room per night in the middle of the week and on weekends on random dates in January and February were compared, and the results were given in local currency and converted to US dollars by the hotel's website.

The price of a one-night lodging in Abu Dhabi's Crowne Plaza in the middle of the week is $511, while such a stay in Moscow would cost visitors $406. A stay in Paris on the Champs- Élysées will cost $366, followed by a $308 stay in New York City's Times Square.

A stay in Amsterdam in the middle of the week costs $218, while tourists who wish to stay at Tel Aviv's Crown Plaza will only be charged $180 per night.

One of the reasons for the difference is that foreign tourists staying in Israel are not charged Value Added Tax on hotel accommodations. Israelis, however, are.

An overnight stay at a Crowne Plaza in Rome will cost visitors $133.
