Indigent Holocaust survivors to receive one-time benefit pay

Some 12,000 survivors of Nazi persecution eligible for $1,500 payment by Association for the Location and Recovery of Holocaust Survivors' Property

The Association for the Location and Recovery of Holocaust Survivors' Property will funnel a one-time benefit pay in the amount of NIS 6,000 (roughly $1,500) for some 12,000 indigent Holocaust survivors.

The funds are to be deposited directly into the survivors' bank accounts in a process starting Monday. All funds are to be transferred by the end of the week.

This is the second time the association has funneled such aid funds. By law, the organization is allowed to use unclaimed survivors' property in order to help survivors in need.

Every Holocaust survivor who is entitled to benefits under the 1957 Disabled Victims of Nazi Persecution Law is also entitled to the association's benefit pay.

The Association for the Location and Recovery of Holocaust Survivors' Property filed a class action suit against Bank Leumi recently, for its refusal to release the funds of thousands of Holocaust survivors to their rightful owners – i.e. the survivors or their heirs.

The association claimed the bank is holding over $75.43 million of the survivors' money.

Holocaust survivors who believe they are eligible for the payment can contact the Treasury's rehabilitation office at 972-3-5682651 or 972-4-8640838/9. Additional information is available at http://ozar.mof.gov.il/lishka , or through the Association for the Location and Recovery of

Holocaust Survivors' Property at 972-3-6135351.
