Israeli singer David Broza was awarded a Spanish royal medal of honor Wednesday, for his longtime contribution for Israel-Spain relations.
Broza has been performing songs in Spanish, alongside his Hebrew repertoire, for most of his career.
King Juan Carlos I of Spain decided to award him the medal for his contribution to both Israel-Spain relations and his promotion of tolerance.
Broza received the medal at a special concert held at the Frederic R. Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv. The concert marked the 25th anniversary of the release of Broza's best selling, five-times platinum album "The Woman By My Side – which also one of the best selling albums of all time in Israel.
A palace statement on behalf of King Juan Carlos I said that Broza was awarded "the Civil Order's Medal of Honor … giving you all the rights and privileges reserved for the members of the Order."
"I am honored," the singer said. Broza was given the medal by a representative of the Spanish Embassy.
