Israel congratulates newly elected UNESCO head

Foreign Ministry spokesman Yossi Levy had congratulated Bulgarian representative Irina Bokova, who was elected to head the United Nations culture and education agency.

"Israel is convinced its fertile cooperation with UNESCO will continue and will even be extended and deepened," said Levy. Bokova defeated controversial Egyptian candidate Farouk Hosni, who in the past called for burning Israeli books. (Roee Nahmias)
