First-ever Israeli cookbook devoted to pork (archives)

A retired Israeli cardiologist is publishing a book on a topic so controversial that he can’t even find a publisher willing to take it on.
The subject? Pork – or “white meat,” as the forbidden food is known in Israel.
Eli Landau’s “The White Book for the New Year,” Israel’s first-ever cookbook devoted to pork, is already generating controversy because pig’s meat is forbidden to both Jews and Muslims.
In fact, though Israel is a largely secular society, pork is still relatively taboo and known as “white meat” on restaurant menus.
Landau will be paying for publication himself.
